I may be in the running for the Guru nomination this year, and was thinking about my Guru choice for the next contest in the event of me winning the Guru competition.
Good choices. While not RBY level, GSC has quite a bit of it's own power and I'd like to see one of their Pokemon in the contest. SSB is probably one of the stronger games that have been snubbed from a contest.

Can't speak for others but i certainly wouldn't want to see another Pokemon Trainer in the next character contest. Pokemon trainer Red alone is enough, i guess.
As for Pokemon itself, would love to see Blastoise making the field though i think Lugia isn't that bad of a choice either.
I do think Smash Bros 64 is one of the best possible uses for the Guru nom, as it has a great shot of doing damage, yet will need a nomination drive as most will go for Melee or Brawl.
I do think there's better choices out there from the Mario and Pokemon series though than Lugia and Boo. I'd rather go for a Goomba or Koopa Troopa than the Boo, personally. But it's your call if you win.

If you go with a Pokemon, we need to get Mewtwo a good seed so he can actually do some damage. Or maybe someone like Blastoise to see where he measures up to Charizard.

I can't really think of a better game nom than SSB. Totally got cheated out of the last actual games contest.
Character nom, I can't really think of anything from Pokemon that really warrants inclusion. Lugia's not that bad a choice to see how GSC compares, though we already know Lugia won't be, say, Pikachu-level. I'd love to see Goomba or Koopa Troopa myself, though I'd love to see something creative and out there that nobody's thought of that could kick ass as well.

for a 128 games contest, I'd predict League of Legends would make it in, though not as a high seed. I'd predict it get something in the 10-13 seed range, then go up against some strong 90s Nintendo game first round, and lose.
Thus I figured it'd be worth it to get one of my favorite games a higher seed, then maybe it could win a few matches against lower competition.
For Super Smash Bros.(original), without the Guru nomination I think it would get somewhat forgotten as well. On its own strength, I'd say it gets a 6-8 seed. With the guru nomination, I could see it getting a 3-5 seed(yes 3) and doing ALOT of damage. When you think about late 90s nostalgia(the source of Final Fantasy 7(1997) and Ocarina of Time(1998)'s strength) there is no stronger game for that than the original Smash for the voters of this site. Smash original was released in 1999 and would receive much of the same favor.
I'd argue that their memories of playing Smash 64 with friends in their youth/teenage years are more memorable and strongly etched in their mind of GameFaqs voters than that of playing even Ocarina of Time.

I seriously doubt that... it has NEVER been in a contest poll before on Gamefaqs, let alone ANY poll on Gamefaqs. We have no gauge on its strength. Also, it is ranked 16th on Gamefaqs Top 100 games. Search league of legends in the polls and nothing will come up.

"that" counts for alot! GSC, despite losing to Majora's Mask in the 2010 GotD contest, is still a really strong game. And Lugia is likely the 2nd generation's strongest pokemon, being that it is on the cover of the Silver edition. It counts for alot, I would predict that Lugia is at least a mid-carder in this contest. Near Frog's level.
World of Warcraft has been on the GameFAQs Top 100 for years, usually in the top 10, and it got 60-40'd by Paper Mario - that thing means literally nothing for contest strength
as for GSC Pokemon, they just don't have the nostalgic strength the premier members of the original 151 do - it would probably do well, but I can't see it taking out many of our usual entrants unless it gets a lucky placement against someone like Neku or Guybrush

I don't believe Lugia is round 1 fodder, I'd put him at least mid-carder level, and the strongest of 2nd generation Pokemon. Boo is probably low-midcarder, but he's just one of my favorites that I want to see in the contest.

Put me on the "Lugia probably has minimal strength" train, though. Everything that isn't from Gen 1 has disappointed in character battles pretty huge iirc

I think you're highly underestimating League of Legends, th313. Game's actually actively supported and the userbase is growing daily, and free to play. More importantly, it's not an anti-vote magnet like World of Warcraft is nor is it disrespected like your usual free to play game would be.

Up until this contest, the characters have never been eligible since they didn't originate in a video game, and this only had half the entrants of a typical contest. I'm still hopeful.
LoL doesn't seem like the kind of game the masses on gamefaqs are going to care about. It's not hated like WoW or Call of Duty, but is it going to do much better at picking up votes outside of its fanbase?
The only Game of the Decade four-pack it might have a chance in is the Persona 4 one, and it probably does lose that. Maybe Call of Duty hate has increased enough that it could beat CoD4, but if that's the case I think it still loses to Perfect Dark. And a no-divisions-by-era game contest would have a stronger field than GotD. That game wins one match if it's lucky.
You shouldn't really make potential topics since everyone will just force their opinion down your throat. You earned the win, don't bother listening to anyone else.

Its pretty difficult to make suggestions for what to nominate when I've no idea of your interests. What I would suggest is to something unique and different to the usual crop of stuff that gets in. Picking something 17th in the Mario hierarchy and a random pokemon are very easy to pin since we've seen several from their series before.
If you're happy with a round 1 filler character because its someone you like then thats an ok route to go down. The alternatives is doing something interesting for the contest with your nomination. Something that potentially has a high ceiling like a Dark Link, Metal Sonic or a Red XIII, something that brings joke value or something that we've just never seen before and nobody has a clue what it'll do.
I think you guys are underestimating how widespread the game is right now. It's #3 on FAQs/Message Boards on GameFAQs... and while I know that's not that telling, it certainly doesn't hurt.
And for what it's worth World of Warcraft would probably be fairly strong if it wasn't an anti-vote magnet, so I don't really consider that a great counter-argument anyway. It's not like Paper Mario was fodder or anything.
