What server? AUS is absolutely dead, and if it's SEA/USE/USW/EUW/EUE, then it might be that it's having a hard time getting you a match because you're so new. Once you get a few games in, that should change, queues will end up being about 3-5 minutes

Oh yeah, if it's been that long since you've played, then you're dealing with an entirely new game now. It's pretty wild.

I rarely play dota outside of 5 stacks, so it's really not a problem for me. I think more people should play with stacks, solo queue is miserable.

Surrender is available for 5 stacks, unavailable for ungrouped pubs.

Also, Chen is back with a vengeance. The neutral creep scaling is going to make him a proper terror, as well as the buff to holy persuasion.

RP is more about the community than it is about the systems or mechanism. I don't play World of darkness because I've found that people that play world of darkness are people that I just don't get along with. I wouldn't play FATE because the system encourages people that I wouldn't get along with. Text RP tends to have people who want to have those power trips or mary sue characters. It doesn't mean that everyone is like that, but those settings have no structure to rein in players who are just.... too much. So it means the barrier against an unenjoyable experience is less prominent.

No idea why I started, but when I quit nicotine altogether (I had long since switched to vaping at the time) over the next couple of years I noticed my mood slowly becoming less stable. It's gotten a lot better since I picked up a vape again.

I suspect it's some underlying thing that the nicotine helps manage, don't really know for sure, can't even conclusively rule out placebo, but one way or another it is making a huge difference. Plus the vape tastes good.

Nicotine use is sometimes associated with undiagnosed ADHD or depression.

During my 20s, I picked up smoking when I worked some heavy physical jobs, like warehouse or stage work, but I didn't smoke very often. I hit the point of addiction during college where I was failing Linear algebra and couldn't focus on the material, and out of desperation I tried having a cigarette before class and it helped substantially. I managed to quit about 5 years ago, but it was really really bad for a long time.

Pittsburgh is trending in that direction. Lots of bedbug infested houses, lots of beat to shit structures and bad flips in the 300k range, and even in the less affluent outlying suburbs you're still looking at 1200+ in rent. I'm lucky to have gotten a 1k rent on the house I'm renting right now, with it being in good repair and 3br 1ba.

Tell me your issues

My current job has devolved into a Kanban of "customer says our app isn't working, fix it." Where the ticket is a copy paste of 1 email and no validation or recreate. Or my personal favorite: build this integration for a desktop product that we don't have a license for or a partnership with. Oh and don't tell the client that we don't have the software.

The job before this was aimless, and an endless churn of managers and designers who couldn't find a direction for our product so we just mostly twiddled our thumbs with no meaningful tasks from product.

I'm at the point where it feels so aimless and boring that I'd rather do manual labor because at least then I have a reason to feel like shit at the end of the day.

Man, I haven't had 2 day long DOMS in months. I must have really done good with thursday's workout.

Just did my first workout in a little over a week because digestion and sleep have been really bad. Definitely feeling my bench form getting better, but still being held back by my triceps I think because extending to lockout is incredibly difficult. Trying to get better at lean-away lat raises, but it's pretty awkward since my gym doesn't have much to grab on to, I end up leaning away from the smith machine, and there's only a mirror on one side, so I can't really see how my left arm does.

I used to play dnd with mal_fet. He was sane when he wasn't sunk in politics.

Also, was there ever a term for those energy games where you could do x number of actions per time period? Sometimes they'd let you buy more, but the good ones like urban dead and kingdom of loathing didn't

I remember there being a term for them when Travian was popular but I don't remember what it was.

I feel that. I'm thinking more along the lines of the automated UI unit tests:

"Mouse click at pixel 21,24. Verify X process occurred." Pointless stuff. Because the UI could change.

Those are just bad and brittle tests. Should be activating controls by xpath or a similar mechanism, because your IDs or html tree should be less brittle, although still definitely something that could change. I'd say if you have a lot of generated HTML, your UI becomes increasingly untestable, but that's also an indication of an accessibility issue.

Unit tests are most useful for parts of code that have complexity to them - like engineering math or geometry calculations etc. Things that you need to really make sure produces the right answers.

I never understood people making unit tests for button clicks calling whatever function. Those seem like just pointless churn unit tests that don't really add any value.

Unit tests are good - but be smart about it and don't be overboard. It's like programmers that add a comment to EVERY line of code - it's really not necessary and clean, well-written code doesn't need that on ever line. Only on the non-obvious bits.

Unit tests in those cases are pretty handy for just catching if a change breaks behavior. That being said, that's all theory and I've never seen a test actually catch that

curious how much C++ experience there is here in this topic. As a game programmer it's basically a requirement for efficient game code so for those of y'all talking about game dev, I do recommend learning it for anyone who's aiming to join a AAA studio

0 industry experience on cpp, but it was my first language and my preferred language through school. Nowadays I'm pretty much a dedicated dotnet/c# duderino who dabbles in frontend languages.

I will say, there's an addictive feeling to tracking body composition and seeing pretty massive changes after a good workout. I'm really glad that I'm not just looking at the scale, because my weight has stayed the same within a 2-3 pound range, but I'm seeing impressive amounts of recomposition in the last few weeks, and it's nice to have a quantitative amount to point to. That being said, I know beginners gains aren't going to last.

I think it's really shitty to compare yourself to world class body builders and think of any total as mediocre. Yeah, you want to keep progressing, but the comparisons are gonna kill you.

Sounds like the new house would go for about 400-550 in the pittsburgh proper area, depending on the burough. Same house where I grew up would sell for about 125k.

I think you'll have a bit of a tough time getting 100k for it, but that's just because of the combination of the area and the low square footage. 100 per square foot seems to be a bit high for that area, and you'd have to make up for it with build quality or amenities, which given the location I'm assuming isn't it. To be honest, I think you're more likely to get 80-82 for it, and that it's assessed too high for the area, but that's without seeing the house at all, so I'm just basing it on the ba/br and sqft.

Depends on a lot of factors. I'm in PGH, if you're 30 minutes north, you've got a good shot. 30 minutes east, probably. South or west tend to be less desirable as far as I know, but I'm not sure entirely. If you're new New Castle, no shot.

Went in for another workout today, Also an excuse to charge some backup batteries since my power has been out for a day. Managed to bench the same as before, which isn't bad for day after legs, poor sleep, and no breakfast.
