I was playing through Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and it got me thinking. We really haven't seen many prominent werewolf/lycanthrope characters since the original wolf man back in the day.
Main question: Who stands out to you as the best werewolf character? Or your favorite of the bunch? Could be from video games, movies, books, wherever. Bonus question: Do you agree that werewolf characters don't get as much focus as other monsters, such as vampires? If so, why do you think that's the case? --- Currently playing: Batman: The Enemy Within, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and MAME. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Hard to pick. My favorite is probably Jon Talbain/Gallon from Darkstalkers, but that's mostly because he's had a consistent role, has a neat character design, and was in a beloved horror fighting franchise. Well, either him or Nora from Being Human.
And, like many here, I had a werewolf in Skyrim. JCvgluvr posted... We really haven't seen many prominent werewolf/lycanthrope characters since the original wolf man back in the day. Well, there's never been an iconic, definitive character on par with Dracula. A large part of that likely comes to down to werewolves both being dichotomous (ie, they're either wolf or man, whereas a vamp is always a vamp) and due to their frequent portrayal as reluctant monsters (whereas Dracula is a straight-up evil dude). And, of course, werewolf characters usually don't get sequels. Even in arguably the most iconic werewolf franchise -- The Howling -- there were usually new werewolves each time. Even Ginger Snaps *technically* had new werewolves each time ( JCvgluvr posted... Bonus question: Do you agree that werewolf characters don't get as much focus as other monsters, such as vampires? If so, why do you think that's the case? Uh, werewolves are one of the biggest stock monsters so... no. The fact that they've traditionally played second-fiddle to vampires is pretty meaningless and, although the zombie craze has effectively bumped them to the third-most prevalent monster, they're still the third-most prevalent monster. Well, maybe fourth counting ghosts, if you count ghosts. In fact, if we count all supernatural creatures, the order of prevalence is probably: 1) Ghosts (Partly because a large number of people believe they're real.) 2) Vampires 3) Zombies 4) Either werewolves or witches And that's keeping in mind that vampires and werewolves get similar billing in a lot of movies, thanks to the whole monster vs monster trope. This includes the Underworld films and even the Twilight movies (although supposedly the werewolves in that aren't technically werewolves but it's fucking close enough). Plus, while Harry Potter -- a film series about witches -- has no vampires, it does have at least one werewolf (in addition to animagi). And they're both pretty prevalent on tv and, in fact, are sometimes roommates >_> --- (\/)(\/)|-| There are precious few at ease / With moral ambiguities / So we act as though they don't exist. ... I really liked how Lycanthropes were portrayed in Special Unit 2.
Lycanthropy allows those who contract it to gain numerous superhuman strength, speed, and senses; never needing to sleep; and giving a more cut-throat, primal outlook towards the competition. Many of the top lawyers and businessmen in the city gladly became lycanthropes and use it to climb the ladder of success. Only drawback is every month during the full moon you turn into a full on wolf-human hybrid and must hunt for food (people), which doesn't seem to bother any of them (shocking, I know). EDIT: Clip from the episode w/ one of the cops having gotten bitten in order to try and infiltrate the pack: My favorite lycanthrope character was my own D&D character, though. Michel "Mike" Zev Lupin. A lawful evil lycanthropic CEO, who was basically a mix of the above with the personality of Hank Scorpio from the Simpsons. He was genuinely really nice and supportive to his own underlings but actually a super villain out to take over the world. He'd recruit anyone with exceptional talent that he felt could be trusted no matter who or what they were, even in the middle of fighting against them sometimes, but anyone else who'd cross him, he'd swiftly eradicate. My favorite part was trying to create as many Broken Aesops as possible, by taking normally positive characteristics like teamwork, rewarding of merit rather than status, and diversity / acceptance of others and twisting them to evil ends. TL;DR: Werewolf Hank Scorpio ... Copied to Clipboard!
