you might think it's a hassle to bring your own bag to shop with you but the real truth is, plastic bags are bad for the environment and when they go to the landfill, they just sit there and fill up quickly since there's no use for them...so that's why people are asked to bring re-usable bags with them or stores change to paper bags but with a small fee....

They have been banned in Hawai'i for decades, and I think that's a good idea.

No. I use plastic grocery bags that I am given when buying groceries as garbage bags. If I didn't receive plastic bags, then I would have to buy garbage bags. Either way, plastic is going in the landfill, but the second option is costing me money.

They are not where I am. And I'm fine with that. I actually re-use mine, though. Same with my family. I do have a reusable bag that I use at a specific store, but I'm fine with plastic.

No, the recent law change made it illegal for stores to just hand them out, requiring a minimal amount to be charged for them.

No, thankfully. I have a bunch of reusable bags, but I always get a few plastic bags when grocery shopping, too.

We use them for cat litter. If plastic shopping bags were banned, we'd still be using plastic bags. Only difference is now we'd be paying for them.

I use plastic bags in trash cans, for bagging up smelly stuff like cat litter, etc. I'm glad they're not banned.

Right, we use them for trash bin liners, too. Forgot about that.

1) They're not actually that bad, considering how much landfill space that's available.

2) You could just switch them with paperbags.

3) Reusable bags are inconvenient for any number of reasons and their only real use is so that people can feel like matyrs. It's true. The real truth.

Not only are they banned, but they then have the nerve to charge extra for inferior paper bags that can't hold as much and tear more easily.

The problem is, the stores here charge you if you want any kind of bag now, even paper.

At first I thought having to bring reusable bags would be an absolutely stupid nightmare, but since I got used to it it's really not that bad. It feels weird as hell to see plastic bags at the grocery store when we're far from home.

mixed feelings about plastic bags. on the one hand they are good for garbage disposal, even the cheap store ones that cost a few cents per bag. on the other hand banning them does nothing to solve how much people overconsume, if people didnt waste so much stuff in general we wouldnt have to have so many landfills/pollution = less problem with plastic bags. look on youtube, people break TVs and phones and gaming consoles for views and fun. one intentionally destroyed TV probably has more waste mass than a lifetime's worth of plastic bags from groceries.

Seems worthless for Starbucks to get rid of plastic straws when they use plastic cups.

You have to reuse a reusable bag 52 times before it evens out to one plastic bag, assuming you don't use the plastic bag for some other use.

Those bags will Rip, Tear, and get covered in chicken blood before you use them 52 times.

Note: my info might be outdated the only study i can find and read is from 2007
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/291023/scho0711buan-e-e.pdf

Theirs a recent study from Denmark but I can't read it so I'm going to trust that the article i found it in is translating it correctly
