Lastly, I'd like to give special shout out to Ryudo, who was a pretty good protagonist. In an era where the protagonist was usually super dark and serious or just happy-go-lucky with no in-between, it was nice to see someone who was gruff and snarky instead, and also still capable of delivering surprisingly heartfelt moments.

But seriously it is ridiculous (albeit expected) that Nintendo charge for online like the other 2 or 3. Their whole thing has been the fact that they're purely about games and playing them and not that ridicilous pc-lite nonsense

But now that they charge for (a rather crappy) online it's just a sad state of affairs.

I actually think it looked better on Wii design wise because the character design and aesthetic itself reminded me of FF 12/an Ivalice style game, not just the gameplay.

But otherwise yeah it was pretty amazing. Basically the Wii's only rpg of worth and boy, it was worth it. Just unbelievably amazing game from start to finish.

Huh I just finished playing the shadow games. Good times. Well, not really. Okay times. Passable times.

Shadow of War was certainly longer and doesn't feel as much a gyp of a game as mordor does (especially since I got War for free on ps plus) but I actually disliked the slight changes they made to the combat. In Mordor the combat was a rip-off of Arkham but at least it could end quicker. In War the already derivative combat was made more tedious and the powerup system worse.

Plus a lot of other faults with the game. I definitely would never have played it if it wasn't literally given away but it was an ok 25 hours to kill as a break in between better games.

With Mordor it was surprisingly short, like watching the movies would actually take longer than playing the game. It ends right when I thought the game will "open up" and "get good now"

I actually enjoyed the games because they were easy (for the most part) because they certainly don't offer much else

I played it on the Dreamcast way back when

Just beat it on Switch and... I mean it's not bad. Stuff like slowdowns and the general low-budget feel of the game weirdly add to the charm.

I think the consensus was that it's "at least better than the ps2 version" but still not as good as the Dreamcast version, though I could not say either way.

Me deciding who Ryudo should end up with

https://i.imgur.com/WXfuedi.gif

The end of the game before the Roan epilogue implied that it was gonna be a menage a trois? Elena got angel wings which was pretty cool to contrast millenia's devil wings, and ryudo can somehow fly thanks to the granasaber's pixie dust sprinkling everywhere I guess, so I thought they were going to be the new "gods" rebuilding the world, maybe repopulating it, etc

I never did get what or who Millenia was. And in the beginning of the game, with the "failed" holy summon process whatever, I always thought they were gonna explain that further, like maybe it was always intended for Elena to be possessed by Millenia or something.

And I like small towns with only 4 houses where all the npcs are right next to each other. I have this ocd where I really want to read all the npc dialogue in a town, but some games the town is so needlessly big that I hate actually walking around trying to find bits of dialogue here and there; I'd much prefer one long dialogue box of text stream like a page from a book, where I just read everything at once.

With Grandia at least the town is super small and the citizens are close by so it's not that much of a hassle to go door-to-door reading up all the new bits of dialogue after story events, or to get a feel for world building and lore.

Also lol that pic. The series has done this twice so far, where the world is weirdly split up due to... reasons.

I like the pseudo on-rails nature of these games though. While an open world rpg with an overworld and whatnot can be fun, sometimes I just want to play something simple and go from point A to point B. This game fills that niche.

You go to a town, cutscene. The dungeon is right there next to the town's entrance, another cutscene, you beat it, and that's a wrap.

What we saw of June in 999... that was all an act for Junpei's benefit? The whole sweet shy innocent act? To make him what, remember his childhood puppy love and fall in love with her again and be more motivated to save her?

This isn't exactly the sequel I was hoping for, I still feel like there was stuff in 999 that hasn't been explained, and VLR explains even less and I just ended on a damn cliffhanger? I can't imagine playing this 8 years ago with no sequel in sight at the time.

What the hell was up with ice-9 in 999 if Alice is just some broad? She's not even a fable ancient egpyt mummy perfectly preserved? Why did we get all that text in 999 if it served no purpose? And Alice dressing the way she did was a complete coincidence or... ? Was that always intended when they made 999 to VLR

Okay. This is complicated.

Originally, that last scene at the bottom wasn't supposed to be in the game. Right near the end of development, there was a big tragic Japanese earthquake and Uchikoshi decided he didn't want a series that he was worried wouldn't even get a third game to end on such a downer note with that previous scene.

So he wrote an additional scene to make it more uplifting.

That scene is NOT CANON. It's essentially the characters directly addressing the player.. Do NOT take any information from that scene into Zero Time Dilemma. TRUST ME.

It's not even voiced in the JP version, it was that late in development.

So the last final scene is with adult Akane? Where she's wearing Zero's robes and takes it off and explains about the 3 people in the pods? And we see Sigma with robot arms?

I like that the game makes tenmyouji address something I immediately started wondering about: what happens to people in alternate timelines. If I change history, doesn't that erase the life people have been living? Is that right? I don't think so.

Is Temyouji/Junpei saying that he's happy with the life he's built with Quark, and as much as he wanted to see Akane again and have a happily ever after with her, he's given up on that dream and would rather go back to the life he had with Quark on the ravaged earth? Especially since he feels this hard person is not Akane, not the Akane he knows/remembers?

Seeing adult Akane is... surreal. And perfect.

I've always wondered/thought it was creepy that Junpei is carrying around a picture of 12 year old Akane and not at the very least a picture of the 20 year old Akane he meets. It's not really as sweet as the writers think it is. At best it's kinda weird.

I suspected something with why Sigma wasn't voiced nor shown onscreen, but... my god
