So he's just trying to repay what Mr. Miyagi did for him. But also keep in mind Daniel saw what a bad path can do for a teenager when he was a teenager too so he's trying to save Robbie from that. Also I feel like there's an element where he feels desperate for a son that's more physically active and good looking and into sports rather than a spoiled couch potato who just plays video games all day aka his real son.
