One of the greatest RPGs ever made. Love that game. The design for Bowser's fortress was so intriguing, too.

Objectively the best peach's castle/bowser's fortress mayhaps?

The only game where every chapter can be considered a favorite. Every time I think hmm which is my favorite chapter, I can't actually choose between the koopa bros, or tubba blubba and ghost mansion, or shy guy's toybox... just a fantastic game all around.

What endings have you gotten?

At first I thought you meant all the game overs I kept getting but now is it endings with character portraits? Because I got one for Dio, and Tenmyouji... This must meas that all those question marks when I load a save file represent the various endings for each character. I can't wait to see Alice, or Luna. I keep waiting for her to be revealed as a villain.

In the route I'm currently playing, why the heck did Dio choose ally when it was Dio+Quark vs Luna. Why didn't he choose betray, like he's prone to do. I'm starting to suspect something.

With 999 I guess I was more used to the voices "in my head" if that makes sense so I didn't bother listening to the voice acting for the vita collection after the first few min. With VLR it's a fresh start so I was more willing to give it a chance and ultimately I've ended up liking the va so far. There's actual nuance and proper delivery given, which is a nice surprise because I wasn't sure if these small studios could afford good va. Especially for localization.

Yep, I've been wondering the same thing in Grandia 1. Justin has the highest Mov and ACT but he'll randomly start last out of my characters. His bar moves the quickest, but still. I suppose they added the randomness so that the slower characters could get their turns in for skill and magic xp, but it is odd sometimes.

Exactly! I remember that happening to me in 1 as well.

I have 2 spellcasters now so it alleviates some of the frustration with the random battle order which is good.

Anyway I'm pretty far in the game now and it's definitely pretty enjoyable. They revealed the Millenia is in Elena's body thing immediately, and here I thought it was going to be another Xenogears situation.

But honestly, I'm so confused now, I've just been jumping through routes to complete what I hadn't yet and I'm so lost over what this version of characters know or don't know.

Eg whether it's Alice being infected by Rad-6, or finding the bomb in the garden/crew quarters, or whatever.

I don't want to read all the text again but I just want a quick summation of what happened in this route up to the point I jumped to.

Nnnnooo... K is ? Immediately closed the game, this is too much. I should have suspected they'd pull this. Not ready for this revelation so I'm currently continuing another route before going back.

I only went that route to confirm whether green question mark routes mean I've found a solution to that previously black question mark route that ends with "To Be Continued" so I wasn't ready for such a revelation.

Damn. And here I was thinking he was Junpei or something. I keep trying to guess the twists like maybe Tenmyouji is Junpei from the future, and the old lady was Akane, I dunno. Or that Sigma was the golem robot masquerading as a human this entire time, just any of the classic twists of stories.

I mean first off the show really struck a cord with me at how it displays mental illness and the struggles that Rebecca goes through and I can see why it struggled with the ratings, doubt anyone wanted to watch that kind of rawness.

I do appreciate how it shows Rebecca trying to cope and try to do better, even as she falls into old habits,

Was really not expecting for them to bring Greg back and do a love quadrilateral with all 3 guys.

Grandia 2 is really underrated and a lot of the bad rap it got was due to having a poor ps2 port

I don't know of any bad rap, but so far most of my complaints are port related and performance related. If the game itself gets bad later that's another story, but so far I daresay I'm enjoying it more than the first Grandia.

Characters: Likable

Banter: surprisingly fun

Endearing moments: yes

And there are little things here and there I personally enjoy in a jrpg mechanics wise and world related

They replaced Greg's actor? Omg why. Even the 4th wall jokes about Greg looking different aren't enough to soften the blow.

Huh, the new Greg actor is called Skylar Astin, and he's also a love interest in the new show Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, so I guess there's just something about him that screams romcom love interest. And to add to the coincidence, both shows feature musical numbers as part of the show so that makes sense.

Anyway been watching the show the past 2 months and excited to see what direction season 4 will end the series on.

With the battle system there's literally one way and one way only to win, which involves a method I currently can't remember but involves momo, who is somehow like the strongest character in that game. Junior is also good.

And honestly? It's okay. All the faults I have with it are present in all 3 of the xenosaga games. And the good is that it involves junior/albedo backstory which I thought was really good since I actually like junior and albedo is low key one of the more underrated jrpg villains.

So yeah, I'd recommend playing just to experience what the xenosaga trilogy in its entirety has to offer, good and bad (mostly bad, I'd say 70-30)

Sidenote, when you reach a section of the game where you're controlling shion and she's by herself, it's a great opportunity to grind and level up since all the enemies are weak to her electricity and your party will match shion's level. You won't get another chance like that.

On the other hand I've solved more puzzles by guessing than I was expecting to, it's seriously hilarious. The puzzle with the "hydroponic" fluid or whatever with 5 different colors and levers with 80, 40, 40: I still have literally no idea how to solve it. I literally just moved some levers around at random and pushed the button, got it on the 11th try and saved immediately.

I like thinking that I'm genre savvy enough to know which way a puzzle is supposed to go. The garden is another one I solved before I was "supposed" to by clicking the correct order of buttons.

But otherwise yeah I've encountered what I feel is some real bullshit. Like the treatment center puzzle with the h/m "board game" and a couple others. Or when I miss an object in a muddy textured area because despite the fact that I clicked on that specific area, the game didn't register the click so I miss an important part to solve the puzzle. I usually catch it but missed it in the library which annoyed the crap out of me.

I think what the game is telling you with this is that it's easy for a passive observer from outside to say "it'd be easy", but when you stack on the following:
* Very few people know each other
* There's a legitimate threat to the players' lives
* There's no guarantee that the game will allow enough rounds for everyone to escape. Zero III was specifically cagey about that.
It's not hard for a desperate person to come to the conclusion that the best thing to do is both protect themselves from losing points and attempt to get out as quickly as possible.

Agreed...

The opposite extreme is everyone constantly voting "betray" and nothing going anywhere and they all die from starvation.

The one that pissed me off the most for lying so far is K. I usually like his amicable personality but I'd actually feel less rage if he acted an asshole like Dio.

If it were 3x faster and you could skip those longass spell animations, maybe.

But then, wouldn't it be better to just have a straight up action rpg?

I'm liking the battles so far even with said slowdown, although I keep wondering what the hell determines the battle order every time a battle starts? It seems completely random which of my party members goes first which is very frustrating.
