I figured this much when I saw the person behind the police motioning for them to swarm forward, but this video shows it better. The police were overrun and flanked all around. They couldn't maintain their position anymore it looks like.You can actually see one officer at the bottom unwilling to engage with the crowd, even as the officer next to him is getting beaten up. He then motions that he has no intention to do anything to them and for them to move on. He was unwilling to attempt to hold the line.
