Not to downplay the severity of the violation of our rights by the government and police every day--because that is a big deal and is totally unconstitutional--but the point of continually pushing legislation like this is to get it passed to create structural changes and give the government more power. They wouldn't be trying so hard if they didn't want this. Last time they tried a speed run, and this time it was introduced, circulated, and marked up without the text of the bill being available for the public to view. They want it bad, and possibly for reasons we can't guess just now.

Also, before anyone says anything about Republicans or Democrats, EARN IT has sadly always been bipartisan legislation.

Of course they want it, but it functionally changes nothing. We've had proof that they do this anyway for nearly 15 years, and to this day most people think the guy that gave it to us is a traitor that should be hanged for treason.

Saying they want this bill is like saying you want $1 million when you already have $1 billion in the bank. Yeah, I'll take some more, but I'm already rich as fuck.

The whole point of repeatedly introducing legislation like this is to seed the idea that they aren't doing this already, in violation of many, many laws and not to mention the Constitution itself.

One of my biggest fears is passing a black hole and getting slung outside the Sun's gravity. If you think humanity is scummy now, just wait until everyone realizes they got a year or two until everyone freezes to death. The US would start nuking countries just to intercept shipments of grain or oil or whatever. All in the hopes of extending life for the elites by another month or so, digging deeper and deeper undeground where it's still warm.

There is nothing in the news about that. Tensions with China? Sure. China being butthurt about a free an independant Taiwan? Yep.

But the decade-long US effort to block China from getting their hands on the latest and smallest process nodes? No. About how the entire point of taking over Taiwan is to get their hands on their smallest dies? Never. The closest thing I can remember hearing about is how TSC recently moved 48% of their production to Arizona. They talked about how it was unprecedented, but nobody in the mainstream media talked about why that was significant.

The Cold War with China is specifically about computer chips, and I really don't recall ever seeing this in the news. Much less daily.

There's also the fact that it's getting so much play in the American media, instead of being insta-buried by the powers that be. That kinda implies its continued focus serves their interests in some way. Either way, whether one or both are true, it leaves me with almost no interest at all in this story.

I think this is a fantastic idea tbh. The movies were quite bad in comparison to the books, and like any book to movie proposition, they left alot out. Changed alot of characters, left out alot of context or inner monologue.

If each book gets an entire season, assuming 10 episodes each, 1 hour per episode, that's 10 hours of screentime to tell the story of a book instead of 2 or 3. If they nail the casting, this might be a pretty special endeavor.

I enjoy mythic raiding in wow, though, so I really just wanted to skip ahead and raid in FFXIV. I'd like to slog through it and get to max level some day so I can really sink my teeth into raiding, but it's just such a chore. imo

A friend of mine growing up had all mad catz controllers, so we all used to bring our own to play Goldeneye multiplayer. I think at one point we even found a blowtorch in his dad's garage, and while looking for things to set on fire we melted a couple of the mad catz controllers, lol.

Yeah. The problem is they are too useful as one of the only footholds the US has in the region, and they know it. They're going to keep pushing their luck as long as they get away with it. Maybe this article is the beginning of that, but I doubt it. If anything, I expect Republicans (and many Democrats) to give Time Magazine the Disney treatment and cancel them after this.

Yeah I completely agree, it would be WAY more unified than during actual WW2. Probably because the US would likely be the instigator this time, but still lol. It took a massive campaign of British ego-stroking to get us into the war, and even that wasn't enough. The USA has a long history of isolationist policy when it comes to European wars; nobody was unified about joining in.
