my tip for drafting amonkhet remastered is not to draft amonkhet remastered

If it wasn't free I probably wouldn't have done it yeah. I'm not a big fan of aggressive tilted formats in general

ChaosTonyV4 posted...
I dont know anything about the set, any tips for drafting Amonkhet?

White Aggro is extremely good, and any color combination can be aggressive. Hooded Brawler in Green, and the 2/1 afflict 2 in blue for instance are both extremely good aggressive cards. Red obviously has a ton of them.

If you aren't aggressive you need as much cheap removal as you can get to stay alive.

Oh, and having 1-2 deserts is extremely important as there are several cards that pay you off from having at least one desert. In red there is an uncommon that is either a 3/3 for 4 with no deserts, to a flame tongue kavu if you have one.

If you think it's only republicans getting rich off politics I've got a bridge to sell you.

There are plenty of ways democrats are better in general than Republicans, but treating them like saints is how you get people who want to "both sides"

sunset pyramid is definitely a card that is a victim of its format. Similar to Kefnet, its just too slow for most decks.

Because Exert and afflict are themes that only matter when attacking, there is a lot of attacking in this set, and blocking is super punished. You have to have absurd amounts of cheap removal before you can start considering those cards because stupid common two drops like gust walker and nef-crop entangler will just destroy you.

Free drafts.

Helpful tip: Amonkhet is ultra aggressive so if you want to play your greater sandwurm you need like 6 2 mana removal spells.

I opened Kefnet who is undoubtably not playable, but ran it anyways because I had 5 unquenchable thirsts. It was pretty funny

And you can definitely sequence break. Maybe they made that easier in the DE as well?

Yeah I'm not into sequence breaking but it's cool that they're aiming for it this time. And it's a good indicator of the level design being strongly thought out and the world being all nice and interconnected!

To me sequence breaking means exploration really matters.

For example I love hollow knight and I hate Ori, and it kind of boils down to that principle. Exploration is really exciting in the former because you can actually find interesting areas and power ups that are completely unnecessary to beat the game, and in the later its just a linear game where you have to backtrack to get everything. Fusion had the same problem

The Super Metroid game can be said to offer the greatest flexibility for exploration in the series. You can enjoy similar flexibility in the Metroid Dread game, depending on how you take advantage of your abilities. You might be able to find ways to obtain weapons, items, and abilities earlier than the intended timing. We encourage you to try to discover alternate routes of exploration.

No seriously, I just honestly preordered. That was enough to push me over the edge. I believe.

Everything wrong with this country is that congress didn't get their sorry asses up and extend the moratorium and instead went on vacation. Not to mention that they won't do anything with healthcare. Or gun violence. Or pretty much anything that doesn't involve enriching politicians and their friends. We could easily have a homelessness crisis on TOP of a pandemic. But Republicans don't give a shit, and moderate democrats don't either. THAT is what is wrong with this country.

Overthrowing democracy because the democracy isn't working has been the playbook of every single dictator that upended democracy since Julius Caesar

Part of the point of sanctions is riling the populace into uprising

I don't think it's difficult to understand the hypocrisy involved here. In the U.S., police violently crack down on protestors with great regularity and the government does nothing to stop it; in Cuba, the U.S. government is saying the police should not violently crack down on protests. You can't have it both ways. Either the police should not violently crack down on protests, or they should. Which country the protests take place in ought to be immaterial to that question.

Protesting is not homogenous. You wouldn't say protesting china in hing Kong is the same as protesting a tree being cut down in the US

But there's still going to be instances of deaths that could have been avoided.

Well yeah, theres going to be some deaths which are sad, but I honestly think if you are rooting for the human race as a whole, the best outcome is this suddenly becomes twice as deadly. One of the largest factors of if you are going to be vaccinated is your level of societal trust, and eliminating humans with low societal trust is what lets societies collectively come together and survive.

Prior to 300 years ago people with low levels of societal trust just died on their own by wild animals, famine, marauders whatever. Now they dont, and we are seeing why thats a problem.

I can see an argument for Companion being fine, but not with the companions we got. Most of them were just too powerful always have in your opening hand every game, even in spite of the deck building restrictions they come with. Let's not forget that Zirda also had to be banned in legacy along side Lurrus (banned in Legacy and Vintage) and the fact that Yorion was ever present in Standard (and kind of still is).

Before the rules change Companions were warping formats around them. It wasn't just Lurrus, which created a one deck meta in Vintage, it was every format they were playable in. Even after the rule change Keruga, Kaheera, and Obosh still got plenty of play, so really half of them (give or take) are perfectly playable cards at a cost much higher than printed on the cards.

That means the only fixes to Companion that there could be (without the rule change) are make them all universally more expensive (and thus unplayable if not a companion), make the deck building requirements significantly more restrictive (Lutri gives a good example of that), or water down their power level so much no one would want to play them anyway.

I think they really thought using a sideboard slot was a big cost, when it really wasnt.

Honestly I dont think there is a really good way to fix companion. Its not a very good idea to have pivotal cards always available. I guess if they were significantly weaker it would have been fine, but I think its one of the most questionable mechanics theyve done in a while. I like Yorion because the restriction is huge and thre payoff is lower, but most of the other companions Im not a fan of.
