Post-grunge is definitely not going strong. That shit went out of style in the mid-late 00s. Emo took over in the mid 00s, Indie rock was pretty popular in the early 10s, and now pop punk and (radio friendly) hardcore punk have made a resurgence.
Maybe it's a regional thing but all the same bands that frequented the radio in 2005 are still putting out music and still on the radio now. Can't go a day without hearing Shinedown or disturbed or three days grace if you put on the rock station

did you know the oscars had 10 best picture nominees back before television existed? were they doing that for ratings?

also did you know the academy is like 10,000 voting members and not a handful of people having clandestine meetings where they're conspiring to get more popular movies nominated for best picture? which doesn't really happen since the expansion happened anyway?
Correct. Also many of those 10000 members have acknowledged they don't watch all the nominees anyways and vote for whoever their buddies are part of. The campaign behind an Oscar win is often more fascinating than the movie itself.

yeah. past lives, anatomy of a fall, american fiction, the holdovers, maestro, zone of interest - all spectacle.

are you serious btw?
And if those "serious" movies were enough to keep people happy, why'd the whole dang academy decide to expand the category to appeal to the lowest common denominator? Bringing in viewers is absolutely important to a televised program.

to be fair i havent done a google search on this in awhile

i know ratings tanked in 2020 for the covid year (all fake and bad movies) but it climbed back

either way - still good company bro. gotta keep the oscars relevant so studios keep making movies ostensibly for grownups
The reason they expanded the best picture category like 10 years ago is so they could throw in a blockbuster or 2 and hopefully get more viewers. Much like the Grammys catering entirely to pop now, the big awards shows are about the spectacle over the art.

the oscars are still the 2nd most watched event in america after the super bowl

and are about to give the award for best picture to a movie that made over 800m worldwide and is made by a household name director

not that irrelevant imo

I just finished ATLA and it was good. I've heard everything about Korra from it being better than TLA to it being total trash that ruins the lore or whatever. I mostly don't care about the plot of a kid show, as long as the animation and action scenes are good. Will I enjoy it?

She said she was pissed off with herself for getting fat, but learned that it was not something she should blame herself for. She wished that her body could be 'as perfect as her soul' (indicating she was being tongue in cheek). She's actually funny, eccentric as hell, and doesn't give a shit.

And guess what? She got a hugely positive response from the audience. Many of whom had their own struggles and appreciated her honesty. But yeah the takeaway here us that she is 'bitter' and that's why she made a throwaway remark about Potter fans.

Jesus Christ, the lengths that people will go to in order to throw vitriol over an old actress you've never heard of just because she made a joke about Harry Potter themed weddings. (Because bullying is bad, see?).

The more you do this, the more you amplify and expand on what she said.
She absolutely was not being tongue in cheek. She was being very authentic. It's kinda her style. I'm not sure why you feel the need to make up a narrative about "an old actress you've never heard of." You can look this stuff up ya know.

from what I understand, it's an adaptation of the musical, and they likely just wanted to double dip by making another movie.

I haven't seen the new one yet, and idk if I will.

I liked the original, though.
Tina Fey plays the exact same character. I'm pretty sure a lot of her dialogue is the same. It was so lazy.
