kateee 07/27/21 11:52:48 PM #370 | it's the #1 pick that everyone saw coming! #1: Injection Fairy Lily First TCG release: Legacy of Darkness (2003-06-06) The last member of the Holy Life Point Trinity of Eternal Knowledge and Doom and my favorite card of all time. Honestly it was pretty close between this and Red-Eyes but personal pull history pushed it over the edge. This card has a bit of everything Ive been talking about through the list. It has the aforementioned personal pull history, its got the rarity, its got competitive viability on its side, anime presence and it can GET BIG. ABSOLUTELY HUGE. HUMONGOUS. GIGANTIC. GARGANTUAN. TITANIC. And thats it for my list! Thanks for revisiting all this shit along with me. Question: What are your top 10 favorite Yu-Gi-Oh cards? |

Dragon First TCG release: Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon (2002-03-08) Blue-Eyes was king but I did like underdogs so Joeys signature monster was really the one that captured my heart. That fucking screech when its summoned AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH The only things holding it back is the B in its name. Why cant they just say black Sadly I never pulled a legitimate LOB and ended up buying the copy I currently have as a single. So fucking cool though. Its SO FUCKING COOL. |

kateee 07/27/21 10:41:05 PM #362 | #3: Silver Fang First TCG release: Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon (2002-03-08) I really wish I had some epic story of personal significance that explains my attachment to this card but its laughably simple and its just because I really liked wolves. I did a research project in the third grade and about the time I read about how they hunt in packs and how they can travel up to 30 miles a day for food (NEVER GIVE UP), I just got super into them. I instantly became a Minnesota Timberwolves fan despite living in Los Angeles (heh), Cassie became my favorite Animorph (this didnt last long), and I considered city-wide protests concerning the egregious portrayal of them in fairy tales which would have resulted in demands to stop their spread to the public. So yeah then Yugioh became a thing and this card, so simple yet so beautiful I latched on to. As Karen once said, Strong [cards]. Weak [cards]. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled [duelists] should try to win with their favorites. Not that I ever used it in a real deck outside of casual videogame play against AI but I liked the idea of having a personal weak card you were just attached to in addition to your typical strong favorites. If you look up its anime appearances, most of the time its just used as set fodder and destroyed the next turn. But I mean what can you expect, it has laughable stats and no effect. Its all aesthetic baybeeeeeeee. ps if you have a 1st ed LOB or 1st ed LCYW in NM hit me up |

kateee 07/27/21 10:38:03 PM #361 | yeah they were forced to partly because people were sending in like everything to get graded from flippers just buying up packs and boxes and sending off all the foils to people who played like 20 years ago sending in their dinged unlimited Blue-Eyes. caused enough of a backlog for them to stop taking submissions altogether and people who sent their stuff in before that are not going to see their cards returned for months if not a year+ |

kateee 07/27/21 9:58:44 PM #358 | CaptainOfCrush posted... Pretty sure I still have my Delinquent Duo (along with a bunch of other Super/Ultra rares). I know Pokemon cards have been dominating all the collector talk, but is there renewed interest and value in YGO cards as well?yeap the Pokemon hype affects YGO as well to some degree just because it's another big card game. currently not as high (and probably won't ever be?) as 2020 levels aside from the inevitable exceptions but among other factors scalpers/flippers who are just trying to make money move from one TCG to another but if you're looking to sell your old cards, unless they're 1st edition and near mint condition, you are not going to see any of that big money. The value really starts going up when you get them graded though so if it doesn't even look like it has a chance of getting a good graded score it honestly might not even be worth the effort to sell. like if i knew my 1st ed psv Jinzo was guaranteed to get a 10 and i could sell for 1k+ i would consider it but honestly unless i'm in financial trouble the collector value it has to me is not worth selling for less. |

kateee 07/27/21 9:22:58 PM #355 | #4: Delinquent Duo First TCG release: Magic Ruler (2002-09-16) This is the second member of my PERSONAL TRINITY of Life Point cost cards: cards that I personally pulled and once thought werent a big deal or just bad as a kid but now have grown to love now that Ive seen the light. In fact I may have gone the other way a bit too much because I love spending life points now. Just make it rain life points and become a rambling gambling dude as that one trainer would say. One of my early Magic Ruler pulls, I did like the art but it avoided my deck for a long time because of aversion to spending my life but I found enlightenment years later when I was out of the game and somehow got into a conversation with some friends who had played competitively before and a whole new world was opened to me: I was out of the cave! My Imperial Order had long been traded away but I still had the other two cards which would go on to become 2 of the now-famous and historically relevant Holy Trinity. One of the more infamous cards through the games history and its actually entirely because of the TCG itself. It never had an anime appearance but it had quite the reputation among the actual playerbase. And god damn this card is broken. If you draw this in your starting hand and youre going first, you can just win from that turn because the advantage you generate by immediately having your opponent start off with two less cards is just too much to overcome. Funny enough I still never got a chance to play this in a deck because its been banned for forever now. Still got the one I pulled and thats a big part of the reason why Imperial Order lags behind the other two in my rankings. Ill be looking to get a 1st ed too soonno matter the cost. |

kateee 07/27/21 7:40:58 PM #352 | #5: Change of Heart First TCG release: Starter Deck Yugi (2002-03-29); Metal Raiders (2002-06-26) The last of the POWER 5 on the list and time has been kind to its legacy. Its really proved itself as (iirc) it has never been allowed again in official play after being placed on the forbidden list. Monster Reborn and Dark Hole have bounced around and even Raigeki has come off the list because its impact is just not as powerful as it once was. Change of Hearts (and Pots) power however, grows with the powercreep and will likely never again see the light of official play again. Its just so good. Unlike other cards that have similar effects (Brain Control cost of 800, has to be face up, Mind Control cannot attack or be tributed) it has no cost and no limitations. You can literally take any monster your opponent has and do whatever you want. Whatever. Even if we were judging on art alone, it would still be up this high. The detail on both wings, the duality aspect, the heart, the way the background glows. It really makes me sad that Pot of Greed wasnt a foil along with it so they could stand side by side shining together. |
