agree with axem. Parasect is kind of notable for its design; being completely overtaken by the parasitic mushroom on its back. Paras and Parasect were the focus of a Gen 1 anime episode, but yeah, I don't think many people were actually using the line in-game.

I'm gonna go ahead and give a short update regarding why I suddenly disappeared for 2 weeks -

I had a major medical event occur that put me in the ER and ICU for much of that time. It was about a week and a half before I had access to my computer again, and any energy to spare to get it set up. I have pre-existing conditions which definitely led to this event, which is now considered a chronic illness. I am discharged from the hospital but have now relocated back to Ohio so my family can care for me, and so I can see specialist doctors in the state for further treatment.

Admittedly I don't have much will to continue this series, but for now I will just put it on hold for a few days since I have a lot of stuff to get in order at home this week.

We've been slow getting to a lot of AA characters, because they almost universally end up as low fodder. For that to change the series would need to make a big popularity jump, considering how badly Edgeworth and Godot have fared in past contests.

Low Fodder for all today. Shinjiro is kind of an obscure character despite being a main party member in P3, but is also a darkhorse fan favorite who's gotten more exposure in Persona spinoffs in recent years.

Tamagotchi I might be giving the benefit of the doubt here, but it's pretty recognizable and I could easily see some people having nostalgia for the 90s virtual pet.

Oddish is likely the weakest link of its evolutionary line, which isn't very popular to begin with. Plus its version exclusive to Blue.

agree with axem. Yukari is divisive among those who played The Answer arc of P3 FES, but that isn't everyone and she's a cute and relevant character otherwise. All Your Base Are Belong to Us comes up on Google before Zero Wing itself, so any character from the game besides CATS is probably law fodder.

I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Mid Fodder for Bayleef and Feraligatr. Bayleef retains the cuteness of Chikorita and should get a boost from the Gen 2 anime. Ash had one that liked to tackle him. Feraligatr might be behind Typlosion in popularity, but I don't think it lags behind to the extent of Meganium.

Rab - Low Fodder. He's an old man who doesn't seem to be a particular fan favorite (and an ACTUAL old man at that, not an anime-old man).

so Robin (Fire Emblem Awakening) should be up for re-ranking today. if they get enough ratings today I'll go ahead and do the re-rank.

Low Fodder for Jesse and she's lucky to get that. Control has gotten some praise but it is still a pretty niche B8 darling. Control didn't make GOTD2 either but I think it was just too new at that point.

Mid Fodder for Meganium. It is likely the least popular final form Johto starter, but I doubt it's by a large margin.

Maria is another main party member from one of the least popular mainline FF games. She won't be terrible but just doesn't have much going for her - Low Fodder

I will re-rank Robin at High Fodder. They are popular enough to at least match Chrom imo and are a far more interesting character in Smash. Robin's designs are fairly consistent save for the hair, so I don't think they suffer much from Player Avatar Syndrome.

agree with metalmind's ratings. The final form Johto starters lacking box art status is kind of significant, and Croconaw is a pretty unpopular middle form. I almost want to give Alena mid based on being in Fortune Street, but yeah, the early DQ games probably don't have the playrate to support that.

I'll go ahead and third re-ranking Robin. They're pretty popular as far as player avatar characters go and are in Smash, but the fodder line we put them at a -very- long time ago is probably too much. I could see them being better than Chrom, but they're definitely less popular than Lucina.

agree with axem's ratings. Estelle is pretty much the Colette of ToV. She's a cute character who's in the party the whole game and is very plot relevant. That said she is pretty divisive among fans.
