May is High Fodder for waifu-related reasons. Also I would guess that she was the more popular choice for a player character over Brendan. Not sure if she benefits from the Pokemon anime, but it's possible she could. And I expect at least 5 threads will pop up on B8 titled She's TEN during her contest match.

Mid Fodder for Octorok. Basically the Goomba of LoZ. It might get some points for design, but I don't think most voters will care due to seeing Octorok as little more than an annoying weak enemy that appears in nearly every game.

Jade might have had a legitimate case for law fodder ten years ago, but he looked to have boosted since then in his 2013 appearance. He is solidly Low Fodder now.

I was putting Sackboy at High Fodder based on his result on Leon, but it's pretty close. My main read on 2010 Leon is coming from a sprite round match against Ryu, so maybe I'm undervaluing him by not taking those factors into account enough.

So maybe Kratos did fall from High to Mid Fodder during that period. Mithos most likely took a drop in turn, but I don't think it will have been a significant one.

I don't think that Kratos has demonstratively dropped since 2010, where a loss to Sackboy put him in Mid Fodder range. It is a pretty close call with Mithos but I think there isn't much of a drop-off with him compared to Kratos or Sheena. I would honestly take Mithos over any party member besides Lloyd or the 2 mentioned above.

I'm not too sure how to interpret Mithos' lone contest match, since it was against pre-Dissidia Kefka. He didn't do too badly though. I think Mithos has enough to be Mid Fodder. ToS is still a popular game on the site, and Mithos seems to be regarded as an effective and memorable villain by fans.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Laguna. He is popular enough to be playable in Dissidia, but he doesn't seem like the type of character that would do well on Gfaqs and does not stand out design-wise. Plus he mostly appeared in flashbacks in FF8 and had limited involvement in the main story.

Hermione will be High Fodder, based almost entirely on Emma Watson's portrayal of her in the movies. She grew out of her "little know-it-all" phase fairly quickly, and was probably crushed on by many Gfaqers as she matured in the role. Of course she also had a big part in the action of the HP series, being the brains of the Harry/Hermione/Ron trio. Nostalgia will be big here.

Goomba I will put down at High Fodder. Despite how massively iconic the Goomba is, it will likely have a hard time beating characters with legitimate strength. Generic enemies don't really get strong fanbases around them, and even Goomba, arguably the strongest one, gets overshadowed by more important characters in the Mario series.

High Fodder for Freya. She's a reasonably well-liked playable FF character with a unique design that helps her stand out. She also gets some memorable moments in FF9, like the Festival of the Hunt and her emotional scenes in Burmecia. However her plot importance pretty much ends completely halfway into the game, leaving her somewhat forgotten compared to Garnet, Vivi and even Beatrice.

Mid Fodder (barely) for Zeus. I'm not really sure how well-liked he is, but he is a major character in multiple GoW games and the Greek God appears in plenty of other media including Disney's Hercules.

Poke Ball seems like another "joke" that won't catch on with the site. However it will still be Low Fodder due to how iconic of an object it is.

Rufus I say is Mid Fodder. I'm not sure how well-liked he is, but he is a major character in FFVII and remembered for his ruthless method of running Shinra. I don't think his redemption changes much, considering his only significant appearance post-redemption is in Advent Children.

Handsome Jack I think is Mid Fodder. I think he is pretty well-liked, but may get some anti-votes due to how much of an dick he is. I am the fucking hero!

I'm surprised it took this long to get another turtle up for ranking. I will stay consistent with previous rankings and put Raph at Fodder Line. TMNT had their heyday in the 90s; the prime position to get nostalgia votes from the Gfaqs demographic. The series also has a long history of games, including beat-em-up favorite TMNT Turtles in Time. Raph is the "cool" turtle who gets a lot of fight scenes and was often a favorite with kids, but I think his dickish tendencies and short temper will turn some people off - enough to keep him from breaking the fodder line.

Urbosa I say is High Fodder. She doesn't have that big of a role in BotW all things considered, but she probably has some popularity due to her design and personality. And of course, she is from what is likely the Game of the Decade on the site.

Now that I think about it, there are some other factors that might drag down Ariel. While her world did appear in Kingdom Hearts and KH2, there are some that despise the sudden gameplay change it brought about in 2. Also the Gfaqs demographic may view Ariel as immature due to her actions in the movie, and relate better to her father.

I'll change my vote on her to Mid Fodder.

Anna will be Low Fodder. All her game appearances were very minor prior to FE Awakening, and I don't get the feeling she was a particularly popular character there, at least not among Gfaqs. She was in plenty of games since then including Three Houses, but in most of them you had to buy DLC to actually play as her. I only see hardcore FE fans voting for her in a contest.

I don't see Reno doing better than Mid Fodder. I don't think the site cares that much for minor characters in FFVII (see: Midgar Zolom). Reno's a funny guy with a recognizable design, so I'm sure there are some people who would vote for him. But not over anyone with a semblance of strength.

Kenny I think will be Low Fodder. I can easily see him getting anti-voted on purpose, with the intent of putting up "OMG They Killed Kenny" threads on the board after the match.

Ariel I will say is High Fodder. I don't remember where I ranked her the first time around. But I think she will be very slightly weaker than Belle. Ariel has the advantage over Belle in terms of design, but Beauty and the Beast is a far more popular movie than The Little Mermaid. The latter doesn't even have a disappointing live-action remake to meme on yet.

The Broly movies never actually played on Toonami back in the day

I'm not sure if I'm taking crazy pills or something, but I could've sworn they ran the Broly movies in the 90s. I'm assuming they aired in some capacity on CN after their 2000s dub release. The new movie had a worldwide theater release too - that has to count for something.

Also only one nomination for Re-ranking is allowed per day. I'll count your nom for Koopa but Urbosa will need to wait until day 200.

I must have accidentally removed Ariel when I put her on the Re-ranking list. I added her back under her original ranking. I will also nominate her for re-ranking.

High Fodder for Broly. Another character that benefits from childhood nostalgia, as he was THE COOLEST to kids back in the day. His design is incredibly distinctive and he has a brutal fighting style that is rare for Saiyan characters. Plus he is in a lot of DBZ games. The DB Super version of Broly was received well, but I'm not sure if voters would associate him with the OG Broly strongly enough for it to make a difference.

I can't put The Mask higher than Low Fodder. The 1994 movie is extremely well-known, but Mask doesn't have much else besides that and the animated series. I really doubt that the movie is a favorite on Gfaqs, which it would have to be for Mask to have any strength. His design is distinctive, but I just don't think the site likes him enough for it to make a difference.

Paratroopa I will give High Fodder. He is just as iconic as the regular Koopa, but is RED and has WINGS. Those 2 things are enough to give the Paratroopa a much more pleasing and unique design, compared to the bland boring Koopa Troopa. Para appears in a LOT of games, including many spinoff games where he is a somewhat popular pick.

Darth Maul. . . I will give him High Fodder based on a few factors. He has nostalgia in his favor since a lot of kids thought he was the most bad*ss character ever when he first appeared in TPM. His distinctive appearance paired with his double-bladed lightsaber make him an incredibly memorable character. Plus he has a major role in The Clone Wars animated series. And yes, only a major fan favorite would be able to come back from a bisecting.

Rocketeer I don't think I have much choice but to give LAW Fodder. The movie is pretty old at this point and had somewhat mixed reception, and the Rocketeer in general had his heyday in the 80s. The video game tie-in is extremely obscure, and Rocketeer has had little exposure since the 1991 movie. Only potential thing in his favor is. . . resembling Iron Man I guess?

Low Fodder for Dig Dug. The game itself is somewhat iconic, but way too old to get many votes. I don't think Dug has much hope when even Pac-Man can't be low mid.

Re-rank on DK Jr - Mid Fodder. I think the name is the only thing that keeps him from being low. No one cares about Donkey Kong Jr (the game), and Junior has had limited appearances since then.

Just realized I forgot to put up the re-ranking that was due for today. I will get it up on the next day.

I agree with LMS's ratings. Hans is a memorable villain, but only appeared in one movie in the 80s. Even though the movie is Die Hard, it won't be enough to make Hans more than Low Fodder. Dyna is a major character in Kirby Super Star with an appealing design, and has appearances in Air Ride and the Kirby anime. I think she has enough to be Mid, barely. Same with Vamp - he's a memorable character in MGS2 and also a major character in 4. Though I'm not sure how well his design will go over on Gfaqs.

I will nominate Lubba as well.

Velociraptor is Mid Fodder due to being a clever girl.

Chiaki is Low Fodder - there has to be a really good reason for a DR character to be more than that, and a gamer girl with a cat ears hoodie is not going to do it here.

Mecha-Godzilla will be Mid Fodder based on name recognition and design - he resembles his namesake and just looks cool in general. For the record I think Godzilla (who I nominated for re-ranking) is better than mid fodder. Mecha tends to be really good in the video games as well.

Birkin is interesting because I'm not sure if his contest pic will show him in a mutated form or fully human. I think the latter is a bit more likely, so I will go with Low Fodder for him. Mutated form might be worth something, but William Birkin as a human doesn't have much besides lore importance.

Mid Fodder for Crocomire, since he's a pretty memorable boss from Super Metroid.

Despite Roll bombing in her only contest appearance, I will give her Mid Fodder. I think that the OG Megaman series was largely dormant in 2006 when she appeared, and she had had little more than a glorified cameo in most games up to that point. Roll has had a much larger presence in the series since MM9, and probably gets more respect as a classic character now than she did back then.

Plus I think Yuna was a particularly bad matchup for her, as Yuna is a "cute" character that Gfaqs cares way more about. Cuteness is like 90% of Roll's appeal, so I'm not surprised she got blown out there.

Travis I say will be High Fodder. He is a relevant character again with NMH3 on the horizon, and his games have the sort of cult fanbase that will always be present in some form. His performance in CB9 could be concerning, but I think there are some other factors that led to his loss to Recette. Recette was being rallied in that match, and I think Travis was hurt by the fact that another mature series protagonist, Kratos, was in the 3-pack.

Low Fodder for Starscream. He lacks a single distinctive design like his leader Megatron, and does not have the notoriety of being the "big bad" of the Transformers series. I'm sure some people like him, but I just don't see Gfaqs caring much about Transformers.

Mid Fodder for Togepi. It is mostly know for being "that thing Misty carries around in the anime". I don't think Togepi is cute enough to get votes based off of that aspect. It is notable for being one of the first Gen 2 Pokemon revealed and has a distinctive design, but doesn't have much else going for it.

I swear I have it in my head that DMC5 is more popular here than it actually is. It still gets talked about a lot of other places but it did disappear on this site pretty quickly now that I think about it. I'll drop my vote on V to Low Fodder.

For Soma, I think his result against the elite Snake put him in mid fodder range. Also the fact that Dawn of Sorrow even made the GOTD bracket bodes well for Soma.

While Mordin seemed to be around the high fodder range back in 2013, I don't think he will see a large drop-off. The disappointment of Andromeda hit Shepard the hardest - I think other ME trilogy characters will escape that to an extent. ME2 polled really well on the site back in Feb, and Mordin is one of the best-remembered shipmates of the series along with Wrex. High Fodder for Mordin.

I haven't played DMC5 so I have no idea how liked V is as a character. I don't get the sense he is hated, so I will give him Mid Fodder (barely). I definitely think he will go down to low within the next year though.

Soma Cruz. . . I think the fact that he is Dracula will help him get up to Mid Fodder (because lore importance), along with his resemblance to Alucard. Soma's main games Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow were well-received, but are definitely niche compared to SOTN.

This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Faby I see as LAW Fodder. I don't think much of anyone cares about Flappy Bird in 2019.

Kermit I will say is Mid Fodder. He's an iconic character who people generally like, but I don't see voters caring strongly enough to vote him over anyone with a semblance of strength.

Wall-E I will say Mid Fodder, I guess? Opinions on his movie will probably be polarized between "cute robot love story" and "overly-preachy dreck" on Gfaqs. Wall-E might get a few votes just for being a cute little robot, but has close to nothing in terms of relevant game appearances.
