Chris Chan was a guy in his 20s who lived at home with his parents. He made poorly drawn comics of Sonichu, a character that was a mix of Sonic and Pikachu. It was clear these comics were a means for him to live out fantasies and often had sexual content in it. He became known from making super conservative videos. They usually were also racist and homophobic. He'd go to college campuses and try to pick up girls by holding a sign that indicated his preferences, including "white", "virgin", "Christian", etc. The internet (4chan) would troll the shit out of him. People would pretend to be girls and were able to get him to make videos of him jacking it or humping anime pillows. In the early 2010s, he transitioned into a transgender woman. Some questioned his motives for this given he's been known for harassing women. A few years ago, he was angry about some change to Sonic's design or something so he went to a Gamestop to start some shit and ended up pepper spraying an employee there. His dad was like 90 years old and died a few years back leaving him with his 70 something year old mom. She's getting dementia. Their house looks like a dump. He went online and tried begging for money rather than getting a job or accessing social services. Fast forward to this week, he raped his mom. Every few years he seems to do something increasingly more absurd, whether it was when he made videos of him jerking off or when he maced a GameStop employee. The more you learn about the backstory of Chris Chan, the more it seems like everything in his life was foreshadowing for what was to come. He is a relic of the weird mid 2000s era internet where shit was wild. There's a lot of filler in this game compared to WWHD. The motivation to rescue the village kids is decent but I'm not feeling as immersed. The wolf sections are still as bad as ever. The first dungeon felt notably longer than most WW dungeons, which actually is a good thing. I've always found TP's dungeon design to be its strong suit. One thing I'm noticing though is the camera controls are really bad. Like the camera doesn't want to do what I want it to. The American version still needs work, but there are a lot of other bugs to deal with before the devs can add support for achievements in. I've never done this for TP, mainly because they mirrored the world like the Wii version (why). The Wii version was my original version, but I got the Gamecube version in like 2010 and never played the Wii version again. I'm really going to be backwards playing this. Graphically it's not as nice as WWHD. The art style for WW lent itself well to an HD remaster. If anything, that almost works as a better motivation, since you get to see the daily lives that would be destroyed if you fail. I replayed MM last year and also made a direct connection to COVID. It's almost spot on how people actually reacted to a major traumatic event. And I see that perspective about people not knowing they're in danger.
