Bonus question - What is your favorite (or least favorite) game with loads of miniatures?

Favorite - Probably Eclipse. It's one of my all time favorite games. Plus, if you have the ship pack, it provides you with different ship minis specific to each race and they look great on the table.

Least Favorite - Firefly the Game. I want to love Firefly so much since I am a huge fan of the show, but the game just drags on forever. It's also very unforgiving. One bad dice roll can basically reset all of your progress so you are starting over at the beginning of the game. This can make it impossible to catch up, which makes the wait between turns even more unbearable. It's too bad, too, because the game captures the theme of the Firefly universe very well and the minis look great, but the gameplay is just not very good.

1. Shining Force III (Preferably with all 3 scenarios and the bonus disc!)

2. Panzer Dragoon Saga

3. Mother 3

4. Seiken Densetsu 3

5. Terranigma

I am completely tired of companies remastering games from the last generation. It must be profitable for companies or it wouldn't be so common, but I want to see games remade that many people (including me) never got a chance to play.

I played Mechs vs. Minions & Robo Rally, but they were both mediocre to me. They both have good theme and miniatures, but I don't think the randomness of programmed movement and abilities are a good fit for me.

I like making a plan and thinking out several moves. If I can only plan out one move at a time due to a game's mechanics, though, that's fine. But I find it really irritating when a game asks me to plan out several moves and completely screws them up with everyone else's moves. Too much chaos for my taste.

Battlecon is fun, but I absolutely love Pixel Tactics. Millennium Blades is long but very unique and has a great sense of humor. For being a smaller board game company, I really do like Level 99. Brad - who runs Level 99 - is a really cool guy.

Also, I wanted to like Boss Monster due to the art and concept, but it's far too random. It feels like you have no real control over what happens to your dungeon if you get dealt a hand that doesn't combo well. A good starting hand can win you the game starting with turn one and there is very little anyone can do to stop you.

None of my friends really get into the whole semi-coop thing. Noone wants to help someone else win, so we either stubbornly refuse to help each other for the greater good and lose together or we ignore the semi-coop aspect and play the game as a straight up coop game.

We really enjoy Marvel Legendary and that's supposed to be a semi-coop, but we just play to win the scenario together. We ignore the VP in everyone's decks at the end of the game.

I get that social deduction games are popular, but I seriously cannot understand the appeal. I have never had fun playing one - not once. They all seem to be big guessing games. I see no actual deduction; just atempts at guessing if the other person/people are lying.

Of all the pointless and recent games that have gotten remade in the last 5 years, I am shocked that Sega hasn't gotten in on this action more. They did re-release Guardian Heroes, which was great, but people would eat up the Panzer Dragoon and Shining Force games. Just look at how much people are willing to pay for those games - especially the Saturn games. I am really surprised Sega hasn't bothered trying to get a piece of that.

Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean - Great sense of humor and translation in the standard style of Working Designs. The story is decent, but pretty cliched. But load times are painfully slow and the battle system is very generic.

Jade Cocoon: Story of the Tamamayu - Played it a long time ago, but it was very forgettable. I remember it had something to do with collecting lots of monsters.

Monster Rancher - i got a big kick out of trying all of my cds to get the best monster possible. Unfortunately, the formula of raising, fighting and breeding monsters got repetitive and I lost interest.

Revelations: Persona - Never played it.

Suikoden II - A Fantastic game in a fantastic series. The story and characters were great and the game had even more impact if you played the original Suikoden first. Trying to track down all 108 characters and building up your castle is very satisfying. A few aspects feel dated, but overall, it still holds up.

Quest 64 - Never played it, but it always looked awful to me.

Paper Mario - A lighthearted, but genuinely fun game. As long as you aren't looking for an RPG that is serious, it's enjoyable. It's a warm and fuzzy Mario RPG.

So I'm trying to find a decent game, not necessarily co-op but can be, that doesn't require a large table (Or possibly no table) as I have a group of 5 to 6 coming over on Friday but don't have a table as I basically live in a bachelor pad and either eat on the sofa or at the kitchen bar area

Could even be on a console but not hidden agenda as we played that last gaming night

At recent game nights we have played Pandemic, T.I.M.E. Stories, Scythe, Hidden Agenda and Munchkin for reference

Power Grid is an excellent choice for 6 players. It scales well, the rules aren't terribly complicated and it appeals to both expert gamers and more casual gamers. It's really a great game. Plus, it's not nearly as big of a table hog as something like Scythe.

I would also recommend Keyflower, 7 Wonders or Alhambra for 5 or 6 people. If you want something a little lighter, Sushi Go Party is very solid for a group of 5 or 6.

Shadows over Camelot

Shadows Over Camelot is also a pretty fun game, but it gets stale quickly unless one of the players is randomly chosen as a secret traitor. At that point, the game is mostly cooperative, but you are trying to figure out which player is secretly working against the rest of you.

With the traitor, though, you really need 5-7 players for the game to work well. It becomes nearly impossible to beat the traitor with only 3 or 4 players.

Also -

FlashPoint
Fuse
XCom the Board Game

Note --- Pandemic Legacy is one of the greatest board game experiences I have ever had, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have played basic Pandemic quite a bit and enjoy the base game. The campaign style of the Legacy version won't do much for you if you don't really care for the base game.

I can agree with that. It's why it makes the people complaining about no lightsaber duel has me scratching my head. That was better than any lightsaber duel we've gotten.

Stuff like the fetishization if lightsabers and sick lightsaber duels is kind of a thing this movie was trying to fight against I think, lol.

I get this but I'm also very hyped for Rey vs. Ren in Episode 9, and if they don't give us that then that's really lame

The first two movies have been building up so much to an ultimate Rey vs Kylo Ren climax as the finale that it would be incredibly stupid if it doesn't happen in Episode IX.

I do not think this was out of character for Kylo Ren. However, after being humiliated and allowing the last of the resistance to escape, I don't see how the First Order could possibly take him seriously as their Supreme Leader. Even the incompetent Hux has to see how inadequate and inexperienced this kid is as a leader.

I don't think Hux ever really liked Kylo to begin with. Hux definitely was not happy after finding out Snoke had been killed and only started following Kylo due to threats of immediate violence. I'm not sure that will still hold up when they are no longer in the same room. Hux isn't really all that great a leader himself so it's not like he has a faction that can splinter off the First Order. Maybe they will introduce some new characters to handle leadership positions in the First Order to justify why it doesn't just collapse under Kylo's rule.

I'm hoping we finally see the fabled Knights of Ren, they can act as Kylo's enforcers to keep the military leadership in line.

That's what I am also hoping for. Either that, or the First Order will turn on him and we will see the Knights of Ren fight against both the First Order and the Resistance.

The problem with the enemies is that they are incompetent. In the OT, the enemy was relatively on par for typical ability/good but were outplayed. Poe's ploy to Hux was incompetence. And they made to properly show it was incompetence. The not shooting the capital ship was incompetence. As was how they went about chasing it instead of killing it. That is what makes it frustrating. Their is no real enemy. The enemy is too incompetent to win.

Agreed. The First Order is kind of pathetic. I get that they are probably regrouping right after losing their Starkiller. But if they are a Galactic force, they really should have had a lot more resources to throw at THREE capital ship's that were critical targets.

The chasing ship premise was bad. Why didn't they destroy it? Kylo goes down and neutralizes the enemies snub fighters. Somehow destroys the command bridge through its shields. Then they back off and do nothing? They could have peppered the ship to pieces with ties after it was made defenseless. They could have made a jump in light speed in front of the ship and enclosed it from all sides. The whole scenario was not one that made sense.

Not only that, but how did they get to the surface of the salt planet so quickly after getting their main ship ripped in half? Weren't Kylo and Hux both on that ship? How did they mount that surface counterstrike so quickly when they couldn't figure out how to blow those few ships in the first place?

The Finn and Rose scenario seemed like it was made just to give them something to do instead of making sense. How did they get a hold of Maz? Why couldn't they call the guy like they did Maz? How were the supposed to just find him out of nowhere in time. How has lightspeed become so quick?

I might have been okay with this sidequest if it didn't supposedly take place within 16 hours. Really? They somehow contacted Maz, figured out where the planet was, got off the ship, flew to the planet, landed, got in the casino, got arrested, broke out and flew back? AND got onto the enemy ship and over to the tracker room in less than 16 hours? Come on now.

It feels like some higher up said, "We don't have enough new worlds in this movie. Create a new one and put it in there somewhere."

"Well, Finn doesn't really have anything to do in this movie. Why don't we just make up a new world and send him there? We can even introduce another character to send with him!"

That's how that whole part felt to me. I actually kind of liked the new world and Rose''s character. But that entire section seemed forced and unnecessary.

And lastly... What was the point of the vice admiral or whatever not telling Poe the plan? It served no purpose. If she just goes this is the plan, the whole mutiny thing never happens with the same side shooting at each other.

I get that she wanted to assert her authority and she didn't need Poe questioning her or undermining her. Plus she didnt seem to like him at all. But she should have known that Poe held a lot of influence in that fleet.

And all she had to do to put him in his place was to pull him aside and tell Poe that she had a plan and he needed to shut up and support her leadership whether he understood her plan or not.

She didn't have to spell out her whole plan, but at least give your crew confidence that you do have a plan. But she never even bothered to do that. Whether it was her character's stubbornness or poor writing, that was a stupid decision.

So, yeah - overall, I did enjoy the movie and I feel like it belongs in the Star Wars canon. I do look forward to seeing it again. But it had way too many plotholes, too much filler, and too many unanswered questions from Episode VII that seem like they will never get answered.

I just saw the movie and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am so glad that it wasn't just a rehash of Episode V like how TFA was pretty much just a rehash of Episode IV. I absolutely loved Luke''s character and Mark Hamill 's performance. I was also actually shocked at how much I liked Kylo Ren's character development. He has turned out to be a pretty solid character - even if he is rather inept as a leader.

That being said, Corrik expressed some of my irritations with the movie pretty well -

Jedi Powers getting absurder is an issue. Some of the highest trained Jedi Masters are being dwarfed by people with no training.

My other issue with Episode VII was now Rey was great at everything without any explanation. They still never touched on why she was able to wield the force so well so quickly, and they may never address it. But at least Rey didn't seem as perfect in this movie.

Kylo Ren's going down to meet Luke Skywalker was out of character.

Snoke being completely wasted? Served no purpose. The fact they are making a trilogy with no overarching story is disturbing. Rian Johnson outright said he was able to do what he wanted and he just cut out things Abrams was doing because he felt like it. That is not good storytelling.

I agree. Just when Snoke was starting to get interesting as a character, he is eliminated without any explanation of who he was or how he came into power or where the First Order even came from.

Knowing Disney, they are saving it for future movies or shows, but in the context of the storyline at this point, Snoke was a complete waste.

Knights of Ren also fell to this and the Kylo Ren going evil story was basically retconned. This is not what was intimated by the flashbacks.

I felt they did an adequate job of explaining why Kylo turned to the Dark side, even though they never bothered to explain why he had such dark feelings in the first place. But what happened to the Jedi who defected with him? Are they the Knights of Ren? Where are they? Will Episode IX bring them back?

I played 1 and 3. The first one was decent on the DS, but I loved Front Mission 3 on the PS1. The story is a little on the exaggerated anime side, but I still enjoyed it. Customizing the mechs and each character's special moves was great. The biggest downside is that I found the missions to be very repetitive after a while - nearly every mission was either defeat all enemies or defeat the boss.
