the only thing that bums me out is that I assume either Vincent or Cid or both won't be playable this game, unless they're referring to possibly Zack or new characters. feels like Cid would be easier to implement since they basically did proto-Cid in Intergrade

Because when Zack is revealed you're supposed to think Cloud didn't exist at all. But they're being shown side by side.

Maybe they feel like they can't hide that anymore? But that's also one of my favorite twist and then untwist in gaming.

I actually never got that (in the spoiler text) from playing the OG. I always thought Cloud started to think that about himself but I never seriously thought that Cloud wasn't real/from Nibelheim/didn't have the water tower moment with Tifa, etc.

Yeah, I think I prefer Arise to Scarlet Nexus overall. As a single player action game the combat in SN was more fun, but I wouldn't want Tales to become that. Both had pretty bad scenarios, with SN being anime nonsense the entire time and Arise starting great but crashing and burning extremely hard.

yeah for a second I thought it could be Arise 2, but a 25 hour expansion is just fine with me, and probably my favorite flavor of DLC

Watching the Eiyuden Chronicles trailer again and legit can't tell if this is an aesthetic choice or it's Switch performance.

Watching clips of other trailers and obviously they're different combat scenes, but there's still fights with a lot of effects on screen for big attacks and they AREN'T slowing down in those trailers, so....

I really doubt this game is going to be good. All the footage I've seen makes it seem like most of the areas are extremely simple, just like the side game was purely left to right environments.

I would really like this to be good but I'm kind of worried that these environments are going to be as bland as the ones in the side game

If it ended with silksong it would've been just fine

I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion, particularly in this topic, but as soon as Adventure Time started "getting serious" I lost complete interest in the show. The first season or two: loved it. As soon as it started delving deep into its own mythos: I'll pass.

Who knows what SE considers it to be, but according to Wikipedia it sold 5 million copies in less than two weeks across platforms.

FFXVI is textbook definition of 7/10 game. It's probably the best mainline entry since X, but it's not very memorable.

The bigger issue with XVI is that it's painfully not popular with younger audiences and streamers, unlike stuff like ToTK/BG3.

But yeah FFXVI being mid isn't actually the main culprit here. It's a series of bad decisions with high profile flops.

I would imagine this one probably not, since Square Enix has a Tokyo Game Show presentation coming up. But maybe a teaser?

Pokemon has a new game every year, without fail. And look what happened to them recently.

Say what you will about FF7R and FF16, but if nothing else it would be very hard to argue that either game released with less polish and fewer glitches than BD/SP and Scarlet/Violet. And I say that as someone who enjoyed Sc/Vi.

I agree S/V is terrible but it sold. With the amount of time between series entries, SE has to worry about their fanbase LITERALLY dying off, particularly with Dragon Quest. If this means the games have to be less graphically impressive then so be it. Maybe don't feel the need to reinvent the wheel / create a new bespoke game engine for every new installment.

If this means FFXVII is the same type of game as XVI with different character models and slight improvements, then it makes sense from a business decision. Release it in two years. Start building momentum. SE has to create expectations in their consumers beyond the expectation that it's going to take forever for this to come out, and it's most likely going to be underwhelming.

The big issue is that they take too long to make games.

There's no reason why the studio shouldn't have two major tentpoles per year. Two years between mainline FF's, mainline DQ's, Kingdom Hearts, and a major remake. They can't build any momentum or hype because of this.
