Even NBA players get gassed running back and forth just a few times.You build up endurance over time. I run pretty much every single day. I really don't breathe hard unless I sprint for an extended period of time, or unless I am running in an actual race. At the speed of my normal runs (today was slightly slower since it was longer) it is usually my legs getting tired that slow me down.
