[ Wikipedia hosts randomly contributed "verified later" content. AllGame hosted official content paired with internal ratings, write-ups, and relevant links. Two very different things. ]

If you don't agree with official classifications and specifications for developers games, which is what AllGame's content listings are built around, that's on you reconcile. Read post #110 and consider what is meaningful and rewarding to you in a gaming session or play-through; ask yourself, "Why do I play [name of video game]?"

Genre is still useful, it's just not very useful to try and define it very strictly.

The Extra Credits group has an interesting approach to this.

They've said why someone plays a game is a more useful way of describing [that game] than trying to describe it from the developer's intent, design, and content.

[ This approach is suitable for conversational situations but not for situations where formal classification is needed. ]

OoT is not an RPG. None of the Zelda games are besides Zelda 2.

I understand how some people are led to believe TLoZ games are not RPGs; I don't know why some people choose to cling to that belief.

Iirc, there are no "stats" that influence gameplay. That's my definition of an RPG

OoT, like every TLoZ game has: health upgrades, equipment upgrades, play as protagonist [Link], friend/foe story NPCs, chance** combat enemies, weapon switching/tactics, optional quests, explorable area maps... all of the essential elements of RPGs.

** Certain areas usually have patrolling or gate-keeping enemies. These are unskippable story or map checkpoint encounters.
