If you install Windows, it quite literally is just that. Get a usb c to usb adapter.

All I'm gonna say is, a LOT of things you may want to use it for, work on Linux so Windows install won't be necessary unless you find something that doesn't (origin game launcher maybe? Haven't tried yet). That said, you can always install Windows. I just personally hate Windows so if I don't need to install it, I won't.

I mean, install Windows on it and its basically a handheld windows PC. I personally won't install windows on it because everything I want to use it for runs in Steam OS, but the option is there.

Would you mind if I sent you a PM asking some questions about it? Looks like I'm getting mine soon, so I want to make sure I'm ready

Go for it, or ask here, I'm sure other people may have the same questions. I've spent hours gaming on it so far. Most of which, spamming dungeons/roulettes in FF14 but I've tested Witcher 3, GTA V, and a number of other games.

I got my Steam Deck a few weeks ago and I've been nothing but pleased with it. Incredible little device. Haven't had to install windows. I've got Final Fantasy 14, Epic Game store, Gog store all working right in linux. Great performance. Good battery life.
