And who says comic sales are even bad? Infact right now many comics are getting 3rd or even 4th printings. I know this because I am not just talking about my butt, I am actively buying comics and also watching anime.

Back in the early 90s and 80s you could get 4 comic books for one hour minimum wage,
Today you can get only 1 for minimum wage in most states.
Comics are a luxury item. Its not needed. Rent, bills, utilities, gas, car insurance, food and everything is 4x times and more than they were back then also, with pay not even doubling what it was back then.
so why waste a lot of money on something not needed when you have thousands of free options in front of you.
Also people werent paying high prices for phone bills and there was no internet bill.

In the 90s comics were sold at the grocer. Kids could beg their parents to buy one.
They aren't at the grocer anymore.
Why? Price too high. Wouldn't sell.

Should be a lot more if you ask me. That's the problem with Manga and Anime. The creators make so little its embarrassing. But their publishers make astronomically more. Oda only making 200 million is a testament of how wide spread One Piece is.

Their main focus is making money just like any other industry. If making good stories was the main focus the market wouldn't be flooded with hundreds of variations on the isekai genre. It's just "this is popular, let's make more" regardless of actual quality like any other.

The real difference is the Mangaka is the original author and so they have some pride usually in their work at least for the bigger hits.

The original authors of most American comics are long dead so they hire people who don't share the same vision or who just wants a paycheck and does what some bigwig says.

One Piece is 1000+ episodes.
The whole S1 of Demon Slayer is free.
Naruto is free.

But kids probably will go to an actual free site and watch whatever they want entirely free.
