exactly. technology is good when it's used well. Facebook and its ilk of surveillance capitalists have stolen our privacy for the sake of control and profit over us. we should resist them harder and provide more friction. if we do that, then maybe one day a better company can use VR in a way that's actually good for us.

The literal only reason why Facebook changed their name to Meta is because Facebook itself is a branding so toxic that people will actually go out of their way to avoid it.

it's also to help them dodge responsibility for societal problems they're rendering with facebook. If we ever hold facebook to task, the company can play innocent and say "well FACEBOOK might have problems, but META is fine"

absolutely every project meta makes is guided by the unseen arm of surveillance capitalism. maybe they stumble onto something that changes gaming but it would not be in the interests of us the gamers.

about 9 months ago I shaved my whole head, and ever since then I've been cutting my own hair. I'm ok at it. it'll save me like 200 dollars a year I think

it looks nice and I can see buying it for like 12 dollars one day even though I like the crude version of the show. i'm surprised the characters look authentic in 3d, those heads are some strange picasso-like shapes and I would have thought they'd look bad as models

because just in general people are hotter when they're lean compared to when they're flabby.

when i started doing it, they just asked for a person to recommend me, but IDK if they ever contacted him. I had to attend a meeting for a few hours where they described what they do, and then we had to come back and shadow some of the people a few times, and then we could just come and volunteer whenever we wanted.

Nowadays I don't think they even ask for references any more, they just take whoever wants to join, but you still have to get trained.

every spring i help the baby birds at my city's wildlife rescue

i also help with other things like possums/armadillos/skunks/porcupine and other mammals, but i really prefer the birds so that's what I always gravitate to

no. movies are language, ideas, imagery, cinematography, sound, music, pauses, motion, acting, and more. that's a lot of venues that movies have to balance in order to express an idea, and it comes with a lot of limits that writing/language aren't bound by.

movies are great for expressing ideas in a differently visceral way, though. and obviously you can do things with movies that you can't do with just language. but same is true for vice/versa

In any case, I disagree with your premise that depictions of gay kids are harmful to the LGBT movement. that representation is crucial for helping gay kids feel more comfortable with themselves. and homophobes aren't ok with gay affection in their media regardless of whether they're kids or adults. they call us pedophiles regardless of whether we show gay kids or gay adults.
