Obama/Biden promised to codify roe, they were handed a super majority, and still didn't do it.

It's strange that this board is mad about this. Most people here are 'vote blue, no matter who' types. Biden is right. We need to use this as a rallying cry so that turnout is high. People need to vote in huge numbers so we can eventually get a supermajority in the Senate to make abortions the land of the law. No need to cry over spilled milk. Time to use this to get the vote out.

This isn't 2008. Many Democrats in the Senate were fairly conservative at that time.

Biden was getting stomped, calling people fat, challenging random people to push ups and IQ tests. Then Obama made some phone calls to make everyone from candidates to media coverage support him.

Bernie was America's last chance. Keep in mind, we'd still have the same Supreme Court essentially, but I do believe Bernie would have actually pushed many progressive reforms through. He would have been the next FDR... without many of the bad parts of FDR's character itself.

Biden may be better than Trump, but he's one of the worst presidents so far imo. It's unfair to even call him middling. It was a shame to see Warren jump in the race, damage Bernie, and then jump out with everyone else at the same time, essentially crowning Biden. I remember being excited when 538 gave Bernie a 66% chance of winning the nomination, before the establishment really screwed him over. A word to the wise for these legacy-hungry politicians... the average American probably could name 10 presidents... even being president isn't enough to secure a lasting legacy, you have to actually change America. Do you think you will be remembered for being one of the forgettable 100 senators? Your own family will forget you by the time your great-grandchildren pass away.

Just a random story I wanted to share from my country (Malaysia).

Last election we voted harder than ever and managed to unseat the incumbent ruling party for the first time since our independence more than 50 years ago.

Everyone was high on the victory and expected a new dawn where we can look forward to a better future.

Merely 2 years later, the new government fell when the infighting spiraled out of control and elected politicians switched allegiance depending on who can offer better security & benefits.

Now the previous ruling party is in power again without even winning a general election and many of us are so jaded that we wondered if it's even worth voting again when the next election comes since there's no guarantee that whoever we voted for will not jump ship when it's beneficial for them.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't simply getting 50 Dems in the senate outside of Manchin and Sinema (and don't share their views on the filibuster) solve everything? Are we that far off?

Okay, let's take away all your voting privileges then and see how long before you complain on a message board about "solutions" to change the US govt in charge.

Voting is not just picking a person you want to lead. It's also a key identitifier in knowing how many others agree with you as well as the majority of the population's opinions are on issues because numbers still matter in that sense. That's what builds confidence in defending your beliefs and based on what happened in 2016, a majority did not vote Republican, did not endorse Jan 6, and definitely does not agree with overturning Roe.

Voting is not going to stop Republicans. Republicans are winning despite being the minority because they're willing to actually take action and because our government is setup in such a way where being a partisan obstructionist is ridiculously easy. Republicans know this and abuse it to their advantage.

Look. If you feel you need to vote, vote. It's probably the only thing you actually can do within the confines of the system that "feels" productive. But be realistic and realize that nothing is actually going to change unless the American populace as a whole is willing to disrupt the system and work outside of it.

"Vote blue, no matter who" is not a winning strategy and should not be the message we send to people who want to fix this shit. People forget that so many Democrats, especially now, are simply moderate Republicans who have been alienated by the GOP. Sinema and Manchin are Democrats. People voted them in, did exactly what they are told, and yet they might as well be Republicans, because all they've done is help Republicans.

And speaking on that, someone else brought up a very good point. Liberals will go out to the primaries, get cold feet and vote for the safe moderate option who tells you dead to your face that the Republican Party needs to be strong over progressive candidates who have been warning us the entire time that the Republican Party is too far gone and drastic action needs to be taken against them. But then place the blame squarely on people who don't vote without any sense of self-awareness lmao

If non-voters are to blame for the rise of the Republican Party, then so too are the people voting blindly for Democrats that seek to preserve a status quo that the Republicans have created.

lol that'd be hilarious because it's already overturned and nobody believes anything he promises anymore after 2 years in.

So there is literally no platform to run on anymore and we're left with the absolute peak consensus that we must not vote for Republicans "just because".

democrats whole platform is - vote for us because were not republicans and they continually get away with it.

all talk, no action. But they keep getting votes anyway. So yeah, in a theoretical sense if they got absolutely clobbered across the board then perhaps they would come to their senses and realize just talking a big game isnt the answer. And unfortunately its been their and the nations undoing.
