When you think about it, Baldur's Gate 3 is the more natural evolution of Final Fantasy than the direction Final Fantasy actually took.

Game of the Decade 2 is a pretty strong argument against trusting any modern Final Fantasy to be worth much.

I'd take Metroid Dread over FFVIIR before I'd take FFVIIR over any of Witcher 3, Elden Ring, Tears of the Kingdom, or Baldur's Gate 3.

I know 6 was better received than 5 and Animal Crossing has had a surgence lately but any poll where I go 'wow Animal Crossing is impressing' worries me.

(This is also why I have little faith in FFVIIR)

I have no faith in Street Fighter 6 so I have extra lack of faith in anything that finishes behind it in a poll.

Of course I can say the same about Pikmin 4.

I suspect based on the other polls that it might be a combination of genre + metacritic score, so XVI got the boot for Sea of Stars.

just based on this result I feel confident in BG3 beating XVI without much trouble, but...yeah, no XVI is a bizarre choice

He isn't, he also fell off a cliff but being in Smash covered some of it up.

In hindsight my theory of 'traditionally edgy-appeal characters are going to drop off' that was the cause for Vincent/Auron/Squall/etc. falling in 2013 should have affected Sephiroth more than any of them, since he had so much more room to fall.

Of course I'm talking in theoretical contests we assuredly aren't getting.

Yeah Vivi's rise basically ate Squall's strength for lunch. A lot of 2nd tier (strength-wise) FF characters have had it rough for a while and the lack of 1v1 contests just covered up the steady decline.

I'm not even convinced Remake/Rebirth will do much to staunch the bleeding, since so much of the competition around the those characters are Nintendo, and we're in the middle of a Nintendo boom.

Yeah those three are basically impossible to read anything off of.

Vivi has boosted to the moon since 2010 and the only real match to get a read for him is....Donkey Kong.

Dante didn't look hot, but also wasn't against anybody we have a read on.

Chun-Li looked pretty bad against Spyro but ultimately came out looking great...but also Ryu kinda sucked?

Maybe the secret to Liquid keeping his strength is not being associated with 'modern' MGS, because boy the Ocelot trend points to him getting weaker with every game. If only he had a contest appearance on just Metal Gear Solid maybe he'd have been a threat to kill the Noble Nine before it was a thing.

Another way to put it is Lillard wanted people making a lot less than him to risk their careers to make him happy.

Why should someone have to risk their career for a much wealthier guy who only wants to be there if it gets his ass kissed?

Part of the problem for some of these players is that the only way for them to get out of a bad situation is to make a public stink. You can call it unprofessional (in the cases of Kyrie, Simmons, and Harden, I'd absolutely agree), but they're also kinda stuck between suffering in a bad situation or looking like the bad guy in order to get out of it.

Lillard deserves better than to spend the rest of his career on a team that wasn't trying to win, but they weren't going to get rid of him unless he forced their hand.

He should not have signed a contract with a mediocre Western Conference team if he wanted to play in Miami.
