For sure! Pearl Jam is solid, like you said. What are your thoughts on Alice in Chains? I like their first two albums a lot. The post-Staley stuff i actually like, but i understand some people not getting into it.
I got really into Alice In Chains a lot this past year, after Pearl Jam, they're my favorite Grunge band.

Dirt is genuinely one of the greatest albums ever made IMO, although their first 3 albums are great in general. Their post-Staley stuff is decent and there's a couple of songs from that era I keep on my main playlist, but typically if I'm going to listen to AiC, I'm going to stick with the Staley stuff.

Have you ever heard of Mad Season? It's a one-album supergroup formed between Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, the drummer from Screaming Trees, someone else (>_>), and Layne Staley as lead singer.

The album is "Above", and it's really fucking good. Very solemn and nihilistic, even by Alice In Chains standards, but also simultaneously mellow and almost soothing on some tracks. It's a wonderful album, and I highly recommend it, it's a good change of pace from the typical Alice In Chains stuff, great as it is.

IIRC, they had to retire Tarzan in Disney parks because people kept groping him.
This is true; they only bring him out now for special events (their special Halloween events, etc.), And he has 3-4 character attendants with him while most characters only have one.

I should probably expand my genre listening again; my music used to be very eclectic, but there wasn't a single non-rock song on my top 100 songs this year, and only a very few explicitly non-grunge bands (Guns N' Roses, The Offspring, and a couple others)

I don't know much about Seven Mary Three, but Cumbersome is great. I'll.check out Water's Edge!
Water's Edge is a prime example of why i love the grunge genre; It's a song that tells a story that deals with some pretty oof shit, and the moral consequences surrounding it.

It also just sounds really fucking good.

Same reason I love Pearl Jam, and their songs like Jeremy and Daughter. It's great lyricism that dives into subject matter that doesn't all to often get tackled by artists in other genres that get equatable amounts of radio time.

It's definitely not for everyone , but I've fallen head over heals for the genre the past few years.

Their songs Machinehead, Comedown, and Everything Zen are personal favorites of mine.

There's actually a decent bit of variation if you look at most of the lead singers; Layne Staley sounds nothing like Chris Cornell for example, yet both were phenomenal vocalists.

Although to be fair, one of the biggest criticisms Seven Mary Three got and what really hurt them when trying to break out was how much the lead singer sounded like Eddie Vedder, particularly on Cumbersome, which was their only mainstream hit.

  1. Water's Edge (Seven Mary Three)
  2. Better (Guns N' Roses)
  3. Cumbersome (Seven Mary Three)
  4. Heart-Shaped Box (Nirvana)
  5. When Animals Attack (Institute)
And somehow my top 3 most listened to bands (Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden) didn't get a single song in the top 5.

In my defense, Water's Edge is a genuinely great song.

Well, not really. The movie theater I go to has a membership package where you get unlimited movies for 30 bucks per month. I saw it in IMAX twice (15 bucks each) and 4DX once (20 bucks), so I made a decent profit. If anything, they're getting the movie theater's money.
... You're missing the point. They're still getting the money from that ticket though, regardless if it's coming directly from you or not.

You're still responsible for giving money (even if indirectly) to a film you didn't enjoy; by giving them money, especially on multiple viewings, all you're doing is giving them the mindset of "Oh, I guess this works then" cause it still makes them a fuck ton of money, and doesn't give them any incentive to change how they handle things in future films.

Ah, gotcha. I wish I'd been able to watch more movies this year, but work kept me busy. I was only able to watch maybe 3-5 per week.

At least I was able to catch most of the big indie and critic-loved movies I wanted to see that came out this year, so that was nice. Still need to see Ford V Ferrari, Bombshell, Little Women, Honey Boy, Dark Waters, and Richard Jewell, so many movies came out at once this past month and this is my busiest time of year, so I just havent been able to catch those yet, and Honey Boy and Dark Waters are already out of theaters. :/

There may be better measures of this, but just for comparison:
The film industry had $11.9 billion in domestic revenue in 2018
https://deadline.com/2018/12/worldwide-box-office-record-2018-domestic-international-china-1202526458/

The NFL alone made $16 billion in revenue last year: https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/2019/07/15/nfl-revenue-owners-players-billions/
I'd argue that there are more people that are die-hard passionate fans of sports than die-hard passionate fans of movies, but more casual movie fans then casual sports fans.

There's a sizable amount of people, myself included, who don't watch any kind of sports at all. You'd be hard pressed to find ANYONE who hasn't seen a single movie in the span of a year, even if just on Netflix or Redbox.
