Went in for a third viewing because a friend hadn't seen it yet and he wanted me to tag along. There legitimately isn't a single piece of this film's story that holds up under any degree of scrutiny. It's all complete and utter nonsense, driven forward by a neverending stream of coincidences.

so now a movie comes out where absolutely nothing connects with anything else and you complain?

First time was by myself on opening day. Second time was with my little brother on Christmas. Third time was with my friend today.

And my local chain of movie theaters has this membership thing where you pay 30 bucks per month to watch unlimited movies. So if I essentially watch 2 IMAX or 4DX movies each month (or 3 regular movies), I'm already making a profit.

It honestly didn't piss me off that much the first time, but more and more flaws made themselves apparent on repeat viewings.

The problem isn't the sequel trilogy, it's that everyone grew up and started scrutinizing Star Wars.

... You're missing the point. They're still getting the money from that ticket though, regardless if it's coming directly from you or not.

You're still responsible for giving money (even if indirectly) to a film you didn't enjoy; by giving them money, especially on multiple viewings, all you're doing is giving them the mindset of "Oh, I guess this works then" cause it still makes them a fuck ton of money, and doesn't give them any incentive to change how they handle things in future films.

The movie could've honestly done with some more connecting. It was painstakingly obvious that Jannah was Lando's daughter. It's the only way their interaction at the end of the movie makes any sense.

And is the C-3PO thing really a common complaint? This is the first I've heard of it.

I can't believe how lame the entire final space battle was either. Lando shows up with this massive fleet, and you think "oh boy, here goes, finally a space battle to dethrone Return of the Jedi!" And then it's just some fighters blowing up the Star Destroyer cannons and then Palpatine shuts that whole shit down. What an anticlimax.

I mean, "best troops" doesn't mean a whole lot considering how much Stormtroopers suck. And the Ewoks had the home field advantage and made use of unconventional tactics. Yeah, it was still jarring to see Stormtroopers get taken out by rocks to the head when they're wearing armor, but all in all, it's not the worst thing ever IMO. Hell, for all we know, Ewoks are super strong. Chimps are smaller than we are, but they're way stronger than us as well.

It wasn't jarring, it was kid-like and stupid. But when you grow up watching it, it somehow works even as an adult.

I liked Rise of Skywalker. I felt everything basically made sense in the context of the movie (not any less than any other star wars story) aside from Palpatine kinda just showing up because we complained that we weren't getting enough fanservice but even then it kind of makes sense with Rey's arc at least.

Also the scrolling exposition text at the beginning was so obviously there just because its star wars and needs scrolling exposition at the beginning

"The dead rise! Palpatine is back! And oh by the way has the largest army evar"

Doesn't every Star Wars crawl start in media res? Sure, "Sheev's back" is kind of a big one, but it's not diaper ruiner Star Wars fans pretend like it is.

The most exciting opening crawl was The Phantom Menaces. Nothing gets my blood pumping like disputes over the taxation of trade routes.
