Personally I think it looks cool and have never had a problem with it. But essentially, it is the lightsaber of the first Mandalorian to become a Jedi, and is typically wielded by the Mandalore (the leader of the Mandalorians). It is likely that Moff Gideon got in from the last person to have wielded it in the canon considering the timeline. Anyway, the crossguard more makes other lightsabers make less sense. Like, would it not be useful for them too? Yeah but staves and most other weapons require use of force in order to be effective, meaning it won't do anything if you accidentally lightly tap yourself with the weapon.
