Generally speaking, girls on trains is somehow a setting that has consistently been shit in anime for years!

After reviewing that post, I feel like just saying Million Lives sucks isn't enough. It's essentially Arifureta season 2.

Some of that is due to weird adaptation choices I think. S3 kept basically every Yui scene from the books and cut a good number of scenes for the rest of the cast. Not exactly sure why they went that way!

SNAFU S3 finished. My thoughts are complicated.

Inarguably just an excellent anime top to bottom, even I cant meme it up and say its all shit because I didnt get my ship win.



Still, I have some misgivings about the last season which are more meta than anything. As far as in story goes, I just dont like Haruno, which Ive already brought up. The biggest issue is that this season really does suffer from coming so late, since in a vaccum it feel unbalanced. Yuki feels very underrepresented until suddenly its her ending. Taken as a while for SNAFU, not a problem, but S3 is basically Yui city from top to bottom until then, making that feel unearned.



Also, the extended cast. SNAFU had an incredibly one! They show up a lot in the first few episodes.then not. Again, another issue that wouldnt feel off at all if this was out soon after S2. The cast all showing up in the last episode really reinforced that feeling. Thankfully we get tons of Iroha.



I guess my main unspoilery takeaway is this: if youre a fan who was waiting for it to finish before watching, I would highly advise rewatchung the first 2 season if you havent seen them recently, or else this season is going to feel worse than it truly is. Because its TRULY very very good.

No, I have only read the first few volumes...I think, I don't remember EXACTLY how far I got. I am pretty sure I stopped during the big fight between two teams? IIRC each team had 1 girl, and of course they paired up the girls to fight, and they made the fight ABOUT them being girls, and it was just so mind numbingly tropy and off putting that I dropped it.

I may still come back to it, but man that kind of writing pisses me off.

I actually think I got a couple volumes last that, but it stuck out to me so much as something that bothered me that I stopped paying a ton of attention for a while before putting it on pause.

Alright so this season, coming out swinging, other than one show that was OK and one that...yeah...

Higurashi - as much as this was my most excited thing to watch going in, I don't really have anything to say? That's not a criticism, it's just that the opening episode is nearly identical tonthe original anime, so I don't really have an opinion to form yet. What's going to matter is how well executed the actual heavy beats are once they come swinging.

Wandering Witch - definitely the biggest surprise, story could go a ton of directions. There's a real possibility that this opening episode will not be indicitive of the remainder of the series, but I've got my fingersbcrossed.

Yasuhime - I was surprised by how much I liked it, but as far as the actual contents it was the least surprising thing so far. This is a sequel ass sequel, so none of that "hey just jump in here and it'll be fine!" junk.

Rock Climbing Girls - while it's not a show that I'm confident I'll stick with, I was pleasantly surprised by by it's solid start, and will be happy to give it a few episodes to see if it'll grip me.

Love Live...2.5? The other one is the next main one, right? Either way, this was great! Only teased at most of the characters besides the lead two. Not as flashy animation wise as some of the main entries, but ironically the CG appears to be better. Just a matter of the times I suppose.

Assault Lily - this started out pretty dull and slow, but the second half was way better. Still, it's one of those things that is less interesting as more shows I actually like come out. Would probabky be harder on it if it was a few more days into the season when it aired. Still, not terrible.

Jujutsu Kaisen - my feeling are always wierd when manga gets adapted. Pretty bog standard start to a shounen though I know what's coming both good and bad so my opinion on that front doesn't matter much. If you're a fan of the source material I can't imagine not loving this because the production was fantastic.

Million Lives - this one sucks.

I don't think it was a bad show at all. I may agree with Mac's criticisms, but the degree of which they affected me isn't as severe. I'd say a solid 4/5.

What an absolute joy to watch from start to finish. I thought I had no lingering attachments to Inuyasha to the point where I had only recently decided to try out the first episode at all, but I just had a huge grin on my face the entire time. I think it was a super smart idea to focus on a story with the old cast for episode 1 to get everyone in the groove of things.

I feel like the first minute of Yashahime just dropped a big bomb about the lead character right off the bat, but maybe I'm reading a bit too much into the phrasing combined with the physical reaction there.

Maybe I should actually finish the episode before trying to think about it too hard as well <_<

Also I've literally never seen a single second of Inuyasha not dubbed, so the VA work is throwing me for a loop.

Certainly enjoyed the series, but absolutely agree it felt too short. Could have had fantastic potential as a two cour series, as it is it's just a solid fun show.

I woukd say it's a product of the current market, would be very surprised if the series wasn't originally pitched to be longer with how it all went down and they just weren't able to make it happen, though at the same time I can't say anything in it was bad. Just not the AotY contendor I was hoping for.

I didn't have high expectations for this particular LL going in, but I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised! I like how the setup is good but different from the typical entry, hopefully that means it won't feel so samey for the initial series start. I'm also going into this a lot more open, since I remember being pretty down on Sunshine going in only to end up liking its cast more than the original.

Based on the episode preview I have a feeling the short brown haired girl is gonna be #1.

Finally finishing up the last few episodes of SNAFU and its really bothering me now how Yuki's sister is being treated like some wierd God being and the entire endgame here is revolving around her wierd almost pointless feeling presence as she does her best impression of a Monogatari character. Like, every single scene with her feels awkward and forced.

That reminds me, SuperEyepatchWolf made an updated video to his incredibly popular original Fall of Bleach video from back when he was first starting out. He makes a ton of corrections to his originally flawed information and assumptions...though the results themselves don't really change. Still just an immensely good watch. Really nails home what an astounding lightning in a bottle Soul Society was.

1 episode in, Burn the Witch looks feels, and sounds incredible. I realize it has movie origins, but still. It feels like I'm watching Bleach back in Highschool and all the excitement that came with that.

Real glad Kubo revealed he was going to continue releasing it in full volume format, so we can hopefully get more.

Honestly, if I didn't already know Ryukishi was the guy behind Higurashi, I probably could've guessed it based just on the art style of the new anime.

I'm a bit warped since I've experienced these in such varying design forms (original Higurashi anime, PS3 Higurashi VN Sprites, PS3 Umineko VN Sprites, soon to be original Cinconia sprites of which I believe is all there is so far). As for the first episode, obviously it's not gonna cover all the SoL elements, just giving us the basic setups to establish these characters. I'm sure some people will complain, but I don't know if I could take the first 23 minute Higurashi episode being nothing but club games. Not everything that works in a VN is gonna work for an anime. I don't even remember the pacing of the old series with how long it's been.

Real wild that they appear to be using the same OP as the first anime, unless that was just a little tease to use during the episode 1 credits. If the new OP next week actually is just straight up an HD remake of the original I will be VERY PLEASED.

You may be thinking of how the initial reveal was super panned because the actual in series art looked WAY worse than original reveal art, but the trailers that started coming out were super sharp.

OK so that actually picked up a whole lot. The fighting animation in this show seems REAL good.

They went the route of trying to show a little bit of almost every character in the first 10 minutes, which I always hate, but once it focus down it got me more invested and I'm definitely interested in continuing. Would probabky say this seems like it might bit a bit RWBY by way of Yuki Yuna.

The Million Lives show is also lacking stream confirmation. I have been up and down on whether I am interested in that with every PV.

I always think back to how I thought ReZero looked like generic crap before it started airing, though, which is why I'm always willing to give these at least a little chance.
