Two of which you (nor anyone else) have never played. But you're right, brand matters far more for GOTY than actually playing the game.

I'm just predicting that both will be based on what I've seem of them. Super Mario Odyssey more so however. It's hard to imagine that game being anything less than stellar.

This game could legit be a GOTY nominee along with Breath of the Wild, Persona 5 and Super Mario Odyssey. Which means Nintendo has three big GOTY contenders this year which is ridiculous.

My only issues are that in my opinion, the art direction of the characters doesn't quite clash well with the world design and Rex seems kind of generic and boring. But I figure I'll get use to the former while Monolith Soft will prove me wrong with the later.

Ubisoft had the best Press Conference so far tbh.

Story and gameplay wise, 5 blows 4 out of the water. I would argue the majority of confidants are better in 5 as well. Party members wise, it's pretty close I give the edge to 5 when comparing them as individual characters. Honestly I didn't dislike a single character in 5. Even the least good ones were still at least okay.

When comparing chemistry, it's nearly dead even. I quite liked how the characters interacted in 5. They felt they had become pretty close by the end. But as I said, it's nearly dead even. Not sure which game does it better honestly.

The one thing 4 absolutely does better though is the events.

Joker/Queen is literally the only ship in anything that I've ever felt this super invested in.

Like there are ships in other games like Fire Emblem or BioWare stuff or even in anime or western cartoons that I enjoy but none of those have made me feel quite like this before. It's just such a goooood ship.

Horizon, Zelda, Nier, Persona and now Prey all have pretty fantastic soundtracks.

I imagine RDR2 and Super Mario Odyssey will have fantastic soundtracks as well. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 as well if it actually makes it out this year.

Other than those, I'm willing to bet they'll put a lot of effort into Battlefront 2's soundtrack now that they have a campaign to deal with but we'll have to wait and see. Could easily be generic crap as well.

Those ones seems like the standouts to me. But yeah, it's turning out to be a pretty exciting year for video game music.

And as far as Hollow Knight being overlooked, I don't agree? The game reviewed well, and is one of the best-selling games of the year on the only platform it's available on. ~100k for an indie game with a dev time of two and a half years for three people is pretty good.

I guess I mean by the media. It doesn't have nearly as many reviews as some other big indie games.

Again, I feel like this poll is really discounting the great Indie games that came out. Like Night in the Woods but also like Hollow Knight and What Remains of Edith Finch. I haven't played the last of those three yet but the other two are really enjoyable experiences.

Hollow Knight in particular I feel is really underappreciated. It's a really charming cartoonish gothic metroidvania game that really deserves more attention than it's gotten but it came out just before Horizon, Zelda and Nier so it got pretty ignored.

Those 3 should absolutely replace Mass Effect, Tales of Berseria and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (which shouldn't even count) imo.

I honestly wouldn't have put Andromeda or Tales of Berseria because they're honestly not that great. I wouldn't have MK8D in either since it's just a better version of Mario Kart 8. Would have put Night in the Woods, Hollow Knight and what Remains of Edith Finch instead since those are really highly rated. But being indie, I guess they get ignored here. But at the same time it kind of doesn't matter.

Breath of the Wild and Persona 5 are the only true GOTY contenders right now. And to be honest, baring any unexpected E3 announcements, the only games still to come that have a chance to compete with them are Red Dead Redemption 2 and Super Mario Odyssey. I consider them the "Big Four" of 2017.

Seeing as I just finished new game plus and seeing as people are doing their character rankings, I guess I will do it too.

Main Cast:

Makoto > Futaba > Yusuke > Morgana > Ann > Ryuji > Haru

I loved the main party with my only issue being that Haru needed more screen time. She just joins too late.

Overall Top 5:

Makoto > Futaba > Sojiro > Yusuke > Goro

Persona 5 had an especially strong cast of characters. By the end, many of them feel like really friends you've know for a long time.

I feel like I could give a more in depth review of the game, but I'll do that later if I do. Overall though, it's an Incredible game and an easy 10/10 for me. Actual gives Zelda competition for GOTY. Not sure which I prefer to be honest. Also like Zelda, it joins my personal favourite games list.
