When downloading data for the GFL's new client this morning, I saw, for the first time ever in my life, the download bar undownloads itself when I tried to resume after being stuck.

As in, the download progress goes to the left.

It was so baffling and very MICA that I felt regret not making a GIF of it due to playing on phone.

That happens when downloaded packets fail checksums. They throw out everything you had to the last good checksum and resume loading again.

Yeah, it's easily the worst element in Cold Steel. Before it had some use because of Earth Wall which was really good on higher difficulties of Sky and Crossbell. The break quartz in CS3 helps it be a little more useful but not really. Wind is also pretty bad outside of the evade quartz to build evade tanks in CS2 and on.

Evade tanks are really good in this game though and there's also a wind quartz that makes counter attacks guaranteed crit.

The ratio of dudes who need to be punched in the face repeatedly compared to those who don't is very high in this game compared to previous games.

Also normally I'm pretty good at picking that "mysterious villain" archetype out based on their voice acting. I pretty much guessed who the Flame Emperor from FE3H and Yin from Zero / Azure was immediately as soon as they first appeared but I'm at a lack of ideas on who the Masked dude is at the end of this Chapter 1.

These field study quests sound suspiciously like Trails in the Sky FC quests. Medicine for the priest? fixing the orbal lamp? That's literally the exact same shit you do as Estelle. They even kept the Bear Claw.

While the new quartz system is very streamlined I feel a little bit sad at the loss of the old method where you built up levels of quartz along lines.

Cold Steel Quartz is literally just FF7 Materia but everyone gets to have one extra gimmicky quartz.

Zero and Azure had a feature where you could review the word bubbles of the last few conversations you had. Does anything like that exist for Cold Steel? The voice record in the notebook seems to only have the Active Voice segments and not the main game dialogue. I tried every button I could think of and didn't find anything.

How many hours you at total with the series so far?

Some of this time was spent idle so it's not exactly accurate but Steam Times are reporting:

155 Hours for the Sky Trilogy
105 Hours for Zero to Azure

Total 260 hours for 5 games. I'd say maybe about 250 of that was actually playing.

Personally I found only Joshua, Richard, Mueller, Agate, and Kevin to be the only people who's crafts were good in Sky 3 for damage purposes.

The support type crafts were always good.

Also unless I'm missing something, there doesn't appear to be a way to even check empty chests so RIP Chest Messages for real this time.

While i have issues with quite a bit of CS, one area it knocks it out of the park in is the addition of much needed QoL. Like being able to buy missed items later, and marking side quests on the map.

CS is feeling pretty sluggish so far. It's not so bad with turbo but I can't toggle the turbo. This is really annoying. I'm wondering if I can mess with steam settings to act like I'm holding the button down. Or maybe something in accessibility options somewhere.

The original games had weird VA, only major events and new character introductions mainly got VAed for some stupid reason. XSEED thought that was stupid and put as much VA as they could. So for the games they localized with VA CS1 and 2, most of the scenes are VAed. I get not wanting to pay money to fully VA everything, cause that is expensive, but the stupid ass decision to make it so that some people got lines in a scene and the MAIN fucking cast didnt get any is pretty stupid. If someone has a line in a scene, everyone participating in that scene should have a line if they say anything.

Which is weird because that's what azure/zero did, just in Japanese. Even literal nameless goons got lines in scenes where other people got lines.

there's alot of typos too yea.. like a piece of gear or quartz in reverie (which is also NIS) that has a character's skil description as a description.. or saying it gives 1600 str insteadof the 160 it actually gives.. or says it gives 100 but actually gives 200.. NIS was insanely lazy

on a side note there's somethin called senpatcher which lets u tweak/fix a few things for all 4 CS games assuming ur on pc

I just want to say I'm trudging through Kuro 2 and if we're talking sheer length, this game seems long as shit. I thought Reverie was long, but I'm almost certain I'll eclipse 100 hours in this game.

Kuro 2 isn't gonna be out in English for a long time so I'm not worried about it.

I believe TC also said he's not doing everything and talking to all the NPCs every time. Most of the density in these games comes from NPC dialogue that changes after every single story beat for extra world building.

When I'm done with it all I'll post screencaps of my achievement progress so you can kind of get an idea of how much I'm doing.

I've already booted up Cold Steel 1 to get any unforseen technical issues out of the way. Seems like my 8BitDo controller will flat out not work at all with it so I'm gonna have to dig out an Xbox controller.

Your efforts continue be awe-inspiring. I like the series, but after chugging through them like this I would definitely need a break. They are just waaay too dense for me to burn through them all.

I am taking small breaks I just don't document them in this thread. On 12/29 I basically played Dragon Slayer V all day.

It has also led me to the realization that Falcom has been hiding rewards in obscure locations & timing requirements for like 35 years.

Man looks like the Cold Steel crew goes through some shit. The banner for the first game is like everyone is all happy and smiling, then in the second game the banner is like "yo what the fuck is this shit" then in the third game it's like "we about to have a fight" and in the 4th game dude's hair is white, eyes are red, giant mecha in the background like "I must kill everything"
