I felt the same way about Cold Steel 1, it's definitely slower than what you get in crossbell. The good news is that the games continue to ramp up steadily, the devs keep building up to more and more huge events. I recently finished CS3 and I was worried it would be a reset back to a CS1 pace, but it definitely doesn't do that.

I disagree with everyone saying CS3 is easy, I found it about the same. I did play on Hard though. I had a lot of trouble "sparring" with that dang woman haha. Evasion is still busted though, and the endgame is as easy as ever.

I thought the new commands would break the game but the bosses seem designed around it, maybe me not using some of the more busted commands kept things more stable.

Some of this time was spent idle so it's not exactly accurate but Steam Times are reporting:

155 Hours for the Sky Trilogy
105 Hours for Zero to Azure

Total 260 hours for 5 games. I'd say maybe about 250 of that was actually playing.

I mean, CS3 was pretty easy but that was more because it was easy rather than because you could delay everything into oblivion, never letting any enemy (until the post-game superbosses) have a single turn, like in CS2 or removing all of the turn delay off of the Rean's spells, meaning that no enemy got to ever take a single turn, like in CS4. Like, you are strong in CS3 but CS2/4 had you playing with some of the strongest characters across all of JRPGs in terms of just how badly they utterly ruined their respective game difficulty-wise. CS3 just doesn't quite hit that level of absolute destruction as at bare minimum you have to consider the boss as an actual thing in the battle.
You described things I did in CS3 and I didn't even use everything to make it more busted. Bosses really weren't considered a thing. Can count on one hand the number of attacks the final boss got on me, it was that pathetic. Remember, this is me playing on Nightmare. The others required me to build towards something that breaks the combat in half. CS3 hands a new broken system to you on a silver platter from the word go. I'm hoping CS4 nerfs it.

As for Sky comments on Crafts/Arts, I played those on Nightmare too (didn't know at the time how badly balanced it was). Enemy DEF scales much harder than ADF so arts were most of my damage.

Sorry for the little accidental derail there.

Zero and Azure had a feature where you could review the word bubbles of the last few conversations you had. Does anything like that exist for Cold Steel? The voice record in the notebook seems to only have the Active Voice segments and not the main game dialogue. I tried every button I could think of and didn't find anything.

While the new quartz system is very streamlined I feel a little bit sad at the loss of the old method where you built up levels of quartz along lines.

Cold Steel Quartz is literally just FF7 Materia but everyone gets to have one extra gimmicky quartz.

I agree on some aspects because earth quartz are utterly useless now. Characters with earth slots suffer until break quartz are introduced in CS3. I do like that you don't have to aim to build elements for certain spells now though.

Also normally I'm pretty good at picking that "mysterious villain" archetype out based on their voice acting. I pretty much guessed who the Flame Emperor from FE3H and Yin from Zero / Azure was immediately as soon as they first appeared but I'm at a lack of ideas on who the Masked dude is at the end of this Chapter 1.

To be fair there is actually a pretty massive historical precedent for the noble and merchant/liberal classes to be distinct in power. It is only a modern thing where they are effectively the same.

His father and his family werent born rich and had to work to get where they are now, and he assumes Jusis' family doesnt deserve their power due to them not earning it, cause face it, most nobles tend not to deserve it. Though I forget when you learn the real reason why he really freaking hates nobles or is it already explained?

Yeah, it's easily the worst element in Cold Steel. Before it had some use because of Earth Wall which was really good on higher difficulties of Sky and Crossbell. The break quartz in CS3 helps it be a little more useful but not really. Wind is also not super useful outside of the evade quartz to build evade tanks in CS2 and on since there's no real wind mage. Jusis is split stats and also split between wind and space slots.

Evade tanks are really good in this game though and there's also a wind quartz that makes counter attacks guaranteed crit.
