Birthright had a really bad and generic story and it was ridiculously easy, to the point that Corrin Saizo Ryoma or any other good unit could easily solo the maps. Conquest had a little more challenge so I preferred that one, didn't play the last one since I heard it was terrible.

You shouldnt be preferring any of the FE14s. They should all be destroyed equally.

I mean, you're not wrong that FE14 was a mess. You just need to learn to count.

Radiant Dawn is the best Fire Emblem game, don't @ me

If you restrict it to games released internationally, I agree with you. Radiant Dawn was epic. Only complaint I had was that they honestly expected you to be able to get the Dawn Brigade on par with the Greil Mercenaries with far lower starting levels and pretty much equal availability at best.

But it still can't compare to Genealogy of the Holy War. Now that's how you do multiple generations.

Yep. Sonic's never really been higher than 8th in the NN, at best. He was theorized to be ahead of Snake initially when both were still winless against other NNers; then after 2006 Crono started "breaking" the NN almost every contest and was the new weakest, but Sonic was still below the other seven. Now, the only one I'd take him against is Mega Man, because Sega is at least trying to cater to Sonic fans' desires while Capcom is completely clueless.

Also Revelation is an absolute mess and by far worse than both Birthright and Conquest. Conquest is actually challenging and fun, and Birthright actually has balance in its cast. Seriously, who thought Revelation Odin was a good idea?

I'll give you the challenge for Conquest, but not the fun--for the same reason as Birthright. Story is fairly lacking.

...Huh? That might be the stupidest argument ever. The savestating in FE13 on Classic is exactly the same as in FE6-8, and 9-10 on harder difficulties. And on Casual, you can savestate at anytime. You're complaining because you want to play on Classic without actually having to endure the consequences of the classic games (that is, having to restart the entire chapter when you lose a unit)? Go play on an emulator.

No way Echoes is worse than Birthright. I don't believe IS will ever top how awful Birthright was, what with it's terrible generic story, terrible balance and bad pacing. Not that Echoes is anything incredible, but at least it wasn't actively unfun.

I don't like Awakening at all, it is a pretty bad game and sorta killed what I love about the series. I just like Birthright even less. No game after RD has lived up to the old games in any way shape or form though, and probably no modern FE game ever will with the direction the series is going.

I dont think you get it. FE13 is FE13. FE14, to me, in all forms or versions, is also FE13. And FE13 is an abomination against god that must be wiped from the face of existence, along with everyone who ever admits to liking it.

Disagree completely. FE13 was not the issue in its own right. I loved that it brought back old mechanics like the child characters from FE4, and while the mechanics of Second Seals were rather problematic, the DLC provided a huge challenge that forced you to actually utilize the infinite level grinding that they allowed. "Postgame bonus content" was usually something that FE had been lacking, and when it was present, it wasn't very good (Sacred Stones is probably the best example pre-Awakening). You know what franchise almost always has some bonus bosses that are much harder than the actual final boss? Final Fantasy! You wouldn't fault a game for trying to be more like Final Fantasy, would you?

The problem was that it brought in new fans who ate up the new additions, and Nintendo doubled down on the "we can bilk our customers for all they're worth". Revelation would be an okay game on its own based solely on its story, but it's not on its own; instead, it's the unholy merger of two other semi-related games. Birthright and Conquest are both atrocious, and Revelation smashes both casts together so you've got too many units to be able to properly attend to. The children mechanic, which was actually handled surprisingly well in Awakening, was clumsily executed in Fates; the bit about Second Seals allowing for infinite level grinding was fixed but you can still get just about any skill on any unit by replaying the game enough with Partner Seals; and the DLC either scales with how far into the story you are (including the EXP grinding DLC, which means a character that actually needs it due to being underleveled will likely get killed if they try it late in the game), making it better to just bring the story to a screeching halt to grind and finish the DLC early, or (and this is the more common one) doesn't use the units from your current save file, instead using pre-set units. Which is unfortunate because the DLC is otherwise kind of cool and provides a lot of story.

Make no mistake, Awakening is very much flawed in its own right. But it's nowhere near as bad as Fates, which basically took all of the worst parts of Awakening and made them even worse.

StupidRaptor... I tend to focus on the negative, and Zen was a positive force in the contest winning most of the "why did they lose" polls... where as the stupid one kept talking out of his ass about stuff he didnt know regarding a semi icon versus utter bubbblegum loser protagonists...

I also focus on the negative...which is why I voted "other". I'd have probably picked Moonroof if I hadn't ignored him early, but in his absence, Yuri_Lowell took that role over.

I posted a suggestion a few days ago for a Couples Contest, similar to Rivalry Rumble only with love interests instead of enemies/rivals.

Link/Zelda would win, of course, but the nomination process would be hilarious because not everyone's partner would be quite as clear cut as Link's.

Also, it would probably be Sora's best shot at finally taking down Squall. He got closer in Rivalry Rumble than ever before, and I feel like Rinoa would be a bigger drain on Squall than Seifer was. (Granted, Kairi isn't as strong as Riku, either, but I don't think she'd be as actively detrimental.)

But yeah, a contest for all characters to make their North American debuts after Summer 2002 could be interesting.

Also, with Board 8 controlling the nominations, Phoenix gets a 1-seed in that, right? Along with Sora and probably Kratos and Shepard, with a chance one of them gets usurped by Amaterasu or maybe even Ike?

I wonder which Pokmon would get in. The format would only ban Gen I-II, so mudkipz could make a return, but I feel like the B8 nomination rally target would be Mimikyu and it would probably do hilariously well.

Hard to say; last contest was the first one that had mixed eras so all of the SNES games looked stronger than they did when they were all facing each other early and then Chrono Trigger would lose to FFVII.

Had Melee not started rallying, we would've known for sure because CT and FFVII were set to meet again and we'd see if CT had boosted enough to win that rematch.

Most likely because as strong as that game is, it's still just one game, and Crono doesn't have any others. With a character like Link, it doesn't matter when you grew up, there was probably a Legend of Zelda game involved. If you're a kid now (not that anyone on this site is), there's Breath of the Wild. Teenager, maybe it was Skyward Sword. College kid, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Late 20s/early 30s? Lucky you, you got Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. And even if you're in your 40s, you might have played Zelda 1 as a kid.

Crono? He was in one game that came out in 1995. A very beloved game on this site, but not as timeless as long-running franchises like Mario and Legend of Zelda.

Not even. We were specifically using North American release dates for any game that had been released in North America, so The Legend of Zelda was credited as a 1987 game.

I'll admit, I got that match wrong because SMB1 easily handled Z1 in 2009 until the other Mario games joined the poll (at which point Z1 very nearly upset SMB3 for second place behind SMW!), but there was a distinct pattern throughout that contest that years with a Zelda game almost invariably beat years without one. Add in that 1987 also had Metroid and it should've been obvious that as iconic as SMB1 was, it wasn't going to singlehandedly carry 1985 past many other years, not even a fellow NES year like '87.

Based on that table, no. Currently COOKIE has the same score as Advokaiser, but COOKIE has Link, Cloud, Snake, Link while Advo has Link, Cloud, Cloud, Link. Seeing as how Link, Cloud, Zelda, Link is a SpikeDragon win, not an Advokaiser win, COOKIE is out of it.

I made this complaint as soon as the bracket was released, but I see the merit in this method.

Under a normal losers' bracket, if you pick someone to lose in round 1 and they lose in round 2, they're in a completely different spot. For predictions, you'd be stuck twice over.

This is hilarious though. I hope Zelda goes all the way (no pun intended) and beats Link. I don't think it will happen but the very fact that I feel that the chances of it aren't zero is what makes this contest so amazing.
