! Is there a basiscape soundtrack that hasn't been explored?! Lol....
if you can find the music to the 2005 pre-iOS/Android mobile game "Otton Puzzle" (), i will give you $100
https://web.archive.org/web/20121016153435im_/http://www.8ing.net/images/gekitoku/oto-paz.gif

same with if you can dig up the music for the defunct arcade "Digimon Battle Terminal" title (though from the little footage online i can find it might largely be reused music from Digimon Savers Another Mission, still would be interested in having the actual music files and being able to know their context)

both seem to be pretty much Lost Media now, especially Otton Puzzle which has almost no indication of its existence other than basiscape's site. even the official site that basiscape's site links to now only has it visible thru wayback machine:
https://web.archive.org/web/20120921074056/http://www.8ing.net/02-04.html

good luck

my favorite category of animals is very easily mustelid so this choice isn't hard. i suppose some of the later ones are mustelid-like but they don't hit the same buttons for me (also mongooses aren't actually mustelids despite how much they look like it tho)

i've thought about this a lot since i'm often confused why people will complain about games they've beaten. I can't get through a game if i don't like it enough to stick with it to the end.

so i will preface this by saying that if i beat a game, it is because i liked it enough to go that far:

Undertale

pokemon x/y is fairly close too. but i wouldn't have beaten either game if i truly hated them, but undertale and x/y are both easy answers for "least favorite game i've beaten". can't really think of anything else i had as overwhelmingly many problems with as i did that i still got to the end of. both 7/10s!

for me the best part of this contest was nominations making me decide to get really into all the hitoshi sakimoto ff soundtracks to find a song to nom that i had in my head that probably doesn't exist. and it was a great period of discovery to realize that all those sakimoto-focused soundtracks are like my favorite ff osts anyways, even if very little of them got represented! thank you for...that! (happy antipyretic still managed to get pretty far!)

The Decisive Battle
Antipyretic

i like ultima waaay more than i remembered from the last many listens. The moments with the shuffle-feel percussion isolated, contrasting with the straight 16ths of everything else...so cool. and the EPIC CHOIR is very good and ar tonelico. may switch my vote if i think about this match a bit more

i am so happy that although i was mad about nothing from FFT getting in after my binge of so many sakimoto osts in a row: that antipyretic has gotten this far. at first i was like "This isn't my favorite song from fft at all and i think i'd rather something from the actual game" but it's also grown on me over the course of the contest to where i'd say i'd go out of my way to listen to this one a lot. it's turned out to become my favorite version of one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite ff osts!

Toxtricity

that is how i was; and how i'd hope that most people with this sorta particularly nonstandard pronoun in their identity are (i know there are the extreme and militant types---i have run into them for sure. i did not and still would not get along well with those sorts of people)

but as long as someone wasn't being a dick about their refusal to refer to me how i preferred (ie making a big spectacle to mock me for it or whatever), i wouldn't really care: i understood it wasn't typical (it was even less typical back then, by a longshot).

i think it's nice to respect this sort of thing, but it's a weighty expectation to put on people when they come from a space where it's not normalized. from my point of view, it was wonderful there were spaces where that was normal at all and i'd just hang out there, but i didn't see the people who "didn't get it" as evil villain enemies, they were just people from a place with different social customs. that's all there is to it imo but a lot would probably disagree

i'm going to respond to this far more candidly about myself than i probably should at this point, as is my usual bad habit

anyways, when i was younger like over a decade ago; /long/ before i had even heard of people going by nonstandard pronouns, i had come to the conclusion that every way to refer to me felt wrong. I was clearly nonbinary (did not know that term yet, would just describe myself as strongly "androgynous" i guess). i couldn't stand being called 'he/him' and 'she/her' felt seriously wrong, and even the accepted 'they' just really didn't make sense to me.

but it eventually dawned on me that the reason i felt this way any time any pronouns were used on me was because i had a strong /strong/ preference for being referred to as "it". there's valid reasons for people to not want to use that in many social situations of course--often sounds alienating and demeaning (especially back then). but it suddenly gave me a way to not feel completely fucked up any time gender as a thing was acknowledged socially at all.

There were, for many years, absolutely no outlets where this was socially acceptable. but eventually the whole weird modern neopronoun trend became normalized in certain environments online (and irl) that i was in, and i could openly just say "my pronouns are it/its" and people would just respect that with 0 issue, and i was amazed how comfortable that was!

I never demanded i be referred to that way in environments where it wasn't socially acceptable, but in the places where it was normalized? Well it absolutely made me feel 10x more welcome and comfortable. it made the daily tension of how incorrect everything else felt to me just disappear in an instant when i was in those places. It actually highlighted how tense being referred to with gender-specifying pronouns felt everywhere else---you don't know how much tension you feel until you finally experience a place that lets you be without it

also this was incredibly effortless in some spaces---my username (or even irl nickname) almost everywhere since ~2010 or so has been plainly the name of a pokemon, and all pokemon are referred to as 'it' in the anime haha. this isn't really _why_ i preferred that, but does correlate probably with why it felt so natural to be called compared to everything else

I have since come to the conclusion that a lot of my non-binary identity at the time was sourced from some weird fucked up social pressures that accidentally forced me to repress any remotely masculine trait about myself---so i strongly prefer to exude a typical cis male identity now (not sure if I'm going to stay that way, but at the very least, I feel a need to make up for the huge amount of literally normal male shit that i like that i repressed due to some strange tldr pressures in the environments i was in).

but the fact remains that this once WAS a thing for me, a very real thing, and not something i would even refer to as a phase, it lasted almost half my life (if anything, deciding to embrace conventional masculinity now is the more likely thing to be a 'phase'). and it was absolutely not influenced by a bizarre online culture of seeing it, and wasn't even to try to demand others' bend their behavior to treat me in a special way. It was simply a realization that it (it) was the only language that felt correct in describing how i saw myself. and when the environments where it was socially acceptable finally did show up, i felt magnitudes more in the right place when i was there. a small gesture of that nature goes a long way.

i'm saying all this as someone who gets really mad at "sjws" or whatever you want to call that tbh. i'm typically very critical of a culture where you're demanded with an iron fist to behave a certain way. and i would give (even back then) 0 problem to someone who just can't get used to speaking that way. I would probably get pissed off if someone went out of their way to make a thread on gamefaqs saying "i can still ignore preferred pronouns if they are it/its right" tho... (i'm not mad at this thread now, just thinking about how i'd react if i found out someone reacted that way to me back then: people almost certainly did. especially since i was like that far before most people online had heard of such a thing)

my conclusion from having this as a thing for myself for the majority of my life tho---i definitely avoid assuming people speak this way just for attention or just as part of a trend. It was a very real thing for me and i had no outlets for it for a very long time. People who feel this way now, they /do/ have outlets that i didn't have back then, and are naturally, using them!

(there's a longer story here about how i feel totally alienated by most of the modern millenial/gen_z lgbt community for unrelated reason to all this---i just do not do well in an environment that's so heavily about behaving 'correctly', which...i know that's how people feel about neopronoun stuff, but ironically i always felt that was the least offensive thing about the environment. but i just let the places where people demand you speak a certain way be. they make life better for some people, but not for me, at least not anymore)

on the "1 seeds all losing" topic: in vgmc we haven't used nomination-based seeding since vgmc5(2011) for a REASON (this sort of nonsense happened in every contest from 1-5. what does well in terms of tracks with a dedicated tiny fanbase enough to break the nom barrier, correlates none at all with what'll win in a 1v1 setting)

but I also think what uf8 said is an even bigger factor. in the 1v16 matches specifically, these 16 seeds arguably went through a more rigorous process to be allowed in the contest. they had to win 3-way or 4-way matches to make it in. on top of already getting enough votes to be liked enough to be at least border-line.

the losing high seeds were mostly niche songs liked by dedicated slivers of nominators who'd be more excited about the rarer tracks that deviate from convention. and those are getting stomped by more widely-popular stuff that actually had to go through a more rigorous process to get in. it's not a particularly expectation-subverting result in any of these cases, and it shouldn't be reacted to as if the underdog winning is what's going on---the underdogs are these high seeds that are expectedly losing. imo.

(being on the side who nommed a lot of stuff that got high seeds only because of them standing out to a small group of people---knowing full well they wouldn't be widely popular with most of the participants, it is a bit upsetting to see it reacted to if those unusual picks were the expected winners and are being beaten by 'underdogs')

(~1999-2003) Poliwhirl (when pokemon first gained popularity i /hated/ pokemon, but this was what I'd say was my favorite when people asked based on the little i knew)
(2003) Charmeleon (when i finally started actually liking pokemon)
(2003-2008) Porygon2
(2008-2011) Jolteon
(2012-2015?) Quilava
(2015?-2017?) Electrike
(2017?-now) Sneasel

that may actually be it technically, but when I got into pokemon in 2003, before I settled on porygon2, i know i switched between tons i liked a lot as I was learning about them all for the first time. So may have considered other things #1 at some point in 2003 (electabuzz, electrike, lanturn). I only listed Charmeleon above because I actually have it documented on some list i made that it was my favorite pokemon at the time, but I actually wouldn't have guessed I ever thought that. Would've assumed it more likely i have lanturn or electrike on there because I talked about those far more often

also. electrike is the only pokemon to maintain its status as a top 5 pokemon for me all the way from 2003-now, which is a pretty astounding status with how much my tastes have changed. maybe even more impressive than anything else listed for me to like it so consistently for so long. but i'm not sure it was ever #1 outside of thin periods in ~2015 and possibly 2003.

i'm not really sure exactly when the quilava->electrike->sneasel transition happened because it was slow and gradual and at some point i was just "oh wait huh, i guess this is my favorite one now" in that order.

Ghoul
Dancing Mad
World of Nine Wood Hills
Blinded by Light

i startedlaughing in ghoul when at 1:30 it turned into myst iv main theme but mesed up. i am liking ghoul a lot more than usual today

dancing mad is probably my favorite nobuo uematsu song. it feels weird voting against what's probably my favorite ff ost, to vote for a song by a composer i like less than everyone else does. but hey i always say I still think uematsu is great...i just also like almost every other ff composer even more.... but dancing mad beats MOST ff songs for me. there;s only a few i like more than it. and the influence dancing mad had over vgm as a whole, basically cemented an entire subcategory of my favorite vgm "PRog Rock Organ odd Time Battle Themes with Quartals in them", sure that existed before dancing mad but dancing mad part 4 made it so much more prominent for the rest of time,,,, thank you keith emerson (rip). anyways both tracks here are great. what a QUARTALS match.

jenova is one of the original ff7 songs i like the most, but unfortunately it is against a song i definitely like more here.

red xiii is one of my favorite fictional characters and this is a neat rendition of a song associated with them and i am pretty impressed with it! BUT it is against a song i definitely like a lot more...a closer match than i expected though!
