To deprive someone of a constitutional right requires due process. You'd have to have a trial for each individual case. Do we have the law enforcement resources to go after this? How does depriving someone of constitutional rights based on their speech jive with the first amendment?

What should be the consequence of making such jokes? Even if the FBI found and located this kid - exactly what would they have been able to do? He made no specific or credible threat. They would have no legal basis to take his gun away, throw him in jail, or any other such thing.

The local police famously visited Elliot Rodger at home shortly before his rampage. They talked to him for a bit, deduced that he hadn't committed any crimes, and so they left. What more, exactly, could/should they have done?

Certain games like Bioshock do it really well - you can listen to audio logs while progressing the game as normal. The examples you list are annoying when they pop up though, and I think the Bioshock method still had drawbacks. There's a general trend in games to restrict the player less in games, which is overall a good thing, but it can make story bits less impactful when you're concentrating on gameplay mechanics (or running in circles) at the same time.

Of course, Bioshock subverts that pretty hard in its most poignant storyline moment...

Well that's the right-wing answer. I don't think it will work (John Lott points out in More Guns Less Crime that the reason concealed carry works as a deterrent is that nobody knows which bystander can potentially subdue a threat - whereas armed guards are basically just people with a big "SHOOT ME FIRST" sign around their neck), but it's a coherent argument at least.

What is the left-wing answer?

Everyone's all "there were warning signs!" but most of the warning signs were things that were perfectly legal, and things that apply to tons of people who don't carry out mass shootings.

What are you going to do? Lock up every teenager who ever gets in a fist fight? Ban "people who are interested in guns" from purchasing guns? Make it a felony to kill frogs? Stop telling me what the warning signs were and start telling me what action should be taken based on those signs that is not currently being taken today.

I guess it sounds callous but the honest answer is probably something like "Accept this as a necessary consequence of living in a society where citizens are sufficiently armed to be able to fight back against government oppression."

Car accidents kill far more people and nobody has a "solution" for that, really, aside from "it's worth it to have cars."

I'll take a few dozen deaths per year if it avoids the tens of millions of communism.

I don't even actively dislike the characters, I just think they objectively dont bring anything to the game whatsoever. Every non-playable character in the game is actively awesome, i love the battle system, i had a blast playing the game, I even enjoyed the plot. But unless the "creators vision" was "This is the story of several people who have the chemistry of people awkwardly talking to each other at the bus stop" I really dont think its unreasonable to say that character design was so weakly done that a complete character overhaul is in order.

The first ever FF game to give you characters whose social skills match their nominal listed ages!

Hah, yeah, this definitely seems to be an issue. There have certainly been races where at first, everyone was kicking my ass getting way out ahead of me, and then eventually I suddenly catch them quick, as if they were just stopped and waiting for me or something.

So I remembered I was still subscribed to origin access or whatever it's called and downloaded the most recent Need for Speed game because why not?

It has terrible reviews, but it uh... doesn't seem terrible (aside from the story being cringingly bad live action videos that seem ripped straight out of the 1990s). This makes me cautiously optimistic that better reviewed/more respected games like Forza will be even better?
