On their website the metal bracelet is adding another 100 dollars to the price, though honestly I'm debating doing that. That way I can just buy a leather strap later and have both. And I'm not really a fan of the day/date version, if we're talking about the same one where the day/date is displayed at 12 o'clock.

What's the cheapest you are seeing this now? Supposedly watch prices are up across the board. How do you feel about repairing broken watches? Aren't many times watches are like tvs? Cheaper, buy a whole new one?

We had 3 people including myself and we were all similarly capable at repairs, although they often left dial feature repairs (reattaching hands, hour markers etc) to me. People didn't like doing them and I have a pretty steady hand + experience doing very similar things with model kits.

FWIW I'd be cautious of anywhere that serviced watches on site if they don't have an appropriately clean room. That's the sort of work where dust or dirt really will cause problems.
yeah i guess so very clean room. you love watches, what kind do you have? this board likes watches much less than national avg, prob likes guns much more

Like regular people? Its one of the few all-inclusive and somewhat luxurious vacations a person of middle class status can afford these days. I actually have 2 cruises booked this year.

Some people like to wait on the top deck right before the ship leaves port so they can watch for "Pier Runners" as they are called. Then they film them and put them on TikTok or whatever so other people can shame them.
Wow, look for pier runners and put them on tik Tok? They don't even put them on YouTube anymore, any of you think it is wrong to post those videos, maybe blur out their face

Had that happen once during a bus trip.

It was in Ireland, and a bus trip from Dublin to the cliffs of Moher. There is basically nothing but some tourist center and, well, pretty cliffs.

When it was time to return, a couple was simply gone. Big search, public announcment on the whole area, no clue.

After like an hour, we had to leave without them, and the police was still searching for them with helicopter and stuff.

On the way back, our bus driver did a quick stop, to tell us that they found them.

They were chillin in the cafe the whole time. They just ignored all the announcments because they didn't expect it to be actually about them.
But you went back for them?

Yes you can get excursions through the cruise line itself. They often have a representative come with. If it's delayed they have radios to tell the ship. We almost got delayed when a bamboo tree fell in front of a tour bus in a Puerto Rican rain forest.

Most of what I did were same day repairs, so that was on the job training. We were situated in a shopping centre which simply isn't a good environment for breaking down movements for a service, so those sorts of jobs went to our workshop. Even those were still usually quicker than going to the manufacturer through the jewellers since we were able to keep everything in house rather than sending them all over the place.

I left in 2020. I really didn't want to be in a shopping centre during the pandemic and I wanted out of retail.
yeah that is very frequent. Have to send it away to do big repairs, wonder why they do that. So you only did small repairs, you do all the work on your watches?

Yes, pretty much anyone with a watch worth repairing wanted it done properly and sanctioned by the manufacturer. We would only use genuine parts unless they literally didn't exist anymore. With all the jewellers within a few minutes walk, our advantage is that we could do repairs in house rather than having to send them all the way to the manufacturer which was way faster even for stuff that went to our workshop.

We did have to get inventive on some of those older watches though. I do remember a 19th century pocket watch someone brought in that took us the best part of a year to repair. It looked fantastic at the end though and the customer was ecstatic to have it working.
did you need credentials for watch repair, you no longer do it?
