Yes and no, like Chechnya and Ukraine the Russian campaign against Georgia was bungled and allowed the Georgians to inflict disproportionate damage to the Russian military. The bungling of the Ukraine campaign is just the same mistakes of Chechnya and Georgia writ large.

He doesn't exactly sound like someone who has a history of going peacefully with law enforcement.

Look, I normally take the same side as you guys - but this is not one of those times. This is a guy who literally tried to kill the last officer who arrested him. And it wasn't the first time.

He had a repeated history of violently assaulting arresting officers. He was a fugitive on the run. The US Marshals were the ones who killed him, most likely because of his history.

This isn't a story of "X cop in bubba town USA senselessly kills an innocent man"

No. You still don't get to open fire on a dude without warning in a crowded space. You don't get to almost hit people while pulling into the lot. You don't get to threaten to shoot people who approach the man you just shot. And you sure as shit don't get to lie on your fucking report and claim he was armed when he wasn't.

And thus you get to the core of the issue. Occupation, insurgency, counter-insurgency operations, are a never ending cycle of horrific violence and war crimes. The way you prevent it is by not occupying other people's homes, and discriminating against them. By not creating a privileged class within their own culture and society.
The Troubles began with a peaceful civil rights campaign. The Irish wanted incredibly onerous things from their occupiers and those locals assisting the occupation.

• an end to job discrimination it showed evidence that Catholics/nationalists were less likely to be given certain jobs, especially government jobs
• an end to discrimination in housing allocation it showed evidence that unionist-controlled local councils allocated housing to Protestants ahead of Catholics/nationalists
• one man, one vote in Northern Ireland, only householders could vote in local elections, while in the rest of the United Kingdom all adults could vote
• an end to gerrymandering of electoral boundaries this meant that nationalists had less voting power than unionists, even where nationalists were a majority
• reform of the police force it was over 90% Protestant and criticised for sectarianism and police brutality
• repeal of the Special Powers Act this allowed police to search without a warrant, arrest and imprison people without charge or trial, ban any assemblies or parades, and ban any publications; the Act was used almost exclusively against nationalists

It was loyalists who decided to start a conflict by bombing water and electricity facilities and blaming it on the IRA (which at the time was essentially a toothless organization) and civil rights activists. Primarily because they weren't interested in giving up the privileged position they held and would lose if the civil rights activists got their way.
Everything moved forward from there. Cops assaulting random Catholics, British Military personnel interning people without trial, Loyalists assaulting peaceful marchers without repercussions. The IRA grew out of that. Prior to 1969 it had been essentially dead since the Civil War, minus a few flare ups of violence over the years primarily during the Northern Campaign and the Border Campaign (Neither of which had much support from Nationalists).

The English had already committed a fucking genocide in Ireland once. Obviously bombing civilians isn't a fucking ideal strategy but if it's the only available option you have to get civilians to put pressure on their Government to stop running death squads in your homeland, you do what you gotta do.

It's really no different than any other occupation Resistance in human history. We make heroes out of the French, Belgian, Polish, and Jewish resistances in WW2. You don't think they killed civilians? The difference is that the British managed to pass themselves off as good guys for the later chunk of their Empire's history (they weren't, only less bad than the Nazis). So when they were targeted by resistance fighters the focus is always put on the bad things the IRA did and never on the fact that British were running death squads. No death squads, no bombings. History is never black and white and the tools used to fight oppressors aren't always what you would like them to be.

There can't be peace in Ireland until the foreign, oppressive British presence is removed, leaving all the Irish people as a unit to control their own affairs and determine their own destinies as a sovereign people, free in mind and body, separate and distinct physically, culturally and economically.

I personally think RDR1 feels like it wants to be RDR2 and just doesn't have the tech at the time. Never have I experienced a game in a series that made so many jumps in just one generation. I think 1 does absolutely nothing better. I too enjoy the slow pace that compliments the game being super interesting and pretty to look at.

Honestly this. The bones of the larger narrative and bigger world are there. The problem is that each section of the game feels detached from the rest. Every mission begins with John riding up and screaming at someone and threatening to kill them if they don't help him do whatever thing he's doing to advance his mission of getting his family back. It's not that it's a bad game, it's very good, just that huge parts of it feel empty. Especially the Mexico portion where it's like 10 minutes of riding through bland and empty space to get anywhere.

What I'd like is them to remake the first game using the second as a template. Everything minus the Mexico section is already in the game.

A West Virginia man died mid-embrace when police in plainclothes fired shots toward him just seconds after placing his father's casket into a hearse.
Two officers with a fugitive warrant showed up outside a West Virginia funeral home on August 24, The Washington Post reported, and called out Jason Arnie Owens' name before shooting.
Witnesses and funeral attendees said Owens, 37, was not armed, despite contrary claims from law enforcement, The Post reported.
"There was no warning whatsoever," Cassandra Whitecotton, a family friend, told The Post.
When the two officers fired, Owens' blood sprayed everywhere and caked his 18-year-old son, according to The Post.
"They yelled Jason's name. They just said 'Jason' and then started firing," Whitecotton said. "There was no identifications they were U.S. Marshals anything. They did not render this man any aid at all. Never once they touched him to render any aid whatsoever."
After Owens placed his father's casket into the hearse, he embraced a relative. Then, seconds later, he died.
The US Marshals Service has not yet specified why Owens' name was on a list of fugitives to be apprehended.
Owens received a prison sentence of up to 13 years in 2018 after fleeing from a sheriff's deputy, The Post reported. Prosecutors said he had tried to strangle the deputy, and he was released on parole in April last year.
The two officers pulled up to the scene in separate cars, the Post reported. One of the cars almost hit Whitecotton, she said.
"It about hit me, so I jumped back up on the curb and kind of looked at him like, 'What's your problem?'" she told The Post.
A man wearing shorts and a T-shirt rushed out of the car. Another witness Mandy Swiger, Owens' cousin said she saw a white truck nearly hit her mom's car as the driver pulled into the funeral home parking lot.
Swiger said she and the other funeral attendees were told by the officers to step back from Owens' body or they'd shoot.
"We want to know why you would do this in front of his family," Swiger said, per The Post. "And what gives you the right to do that to an unarmed man?"

I'm assuming they have to somehow defeat Sauron, otherwise it's kind of weird to have him as the main looming threat over several seasons.

Then again, they did kind of do that in The Hobbit with the Necromancer. A small victory over him, but we knew where he was heading.

SPOILERS relating to Sauron and Fall of Numenor
Sauron is defeated a couple of times in the 2nd age. The Numenorians defeat him and bring him back to Numenor in chains. He then Over a period of years or decades, I can't remember which, worms his way into their councils after pretending to be reformed and corrupts their society to the point where they try and sail to the deathless lands of Valinor, which leads to the Valar destroying their army and sinking Numenor. Sauron's spirit survives and returns to Mordor, which sets in motion the events that lead to the war of the Last Alliance and the fall of Gil Galad and the destruction of Barad-Dur.

Fall of Numenor is 3319 and the battle at Barad-Dur is 3441 so if Isildur is alive then yeah they will probably do the fall of Numenor because Isildur was born 3209.

The SC justice assigned to the 11th Circuit happens to be Clarence Thomas (of f***ing course), who gets to make the decision as to whether they'll hear Trump's appeal, which of course he will. Then it could be a long time before the Supreme Court hands down a final decision after hearing arguments.

And all this before we're even allowed to proceed beyond the special master bullshit.

Which means by then the GOP could be in charge of the DoJ and they'll kill the whole thing.
