At my job I'm glad we don't have unpaid lunch breaks. We have to remain on site and can't leave so rather than unpaid lunch breaks where you are off the clock and can leave they just keep us on the clock paying us. I wouldn't want to stay an extra hour because of an unpaid lunch. I work just a straight 8 hour day and for the past 25 years have been able to just eat and take a meal break whenever I'm not busy. I'd rather do it like that.

I can totally see where shitty businesses will abuse this though.

Even outside of "shitty businesses" I'm sure there are some jobs that don't have "non busy" periods.

This too. My family was sharing a meme about airport security vs border security, showing how difficult it is to get through an airport vs what is essentially a welcome banner at the border. The ironic thing about it is it's a lot easier for them to come in via the airport and overstay their visa

That is part of the whole "great reframing" done by the right. It's the same as how people are trained to view "illegal immigrants" as a term for people who are boarder hopping when the reality is that it's a completely negligible amount that that's what it applies to and mostly the term refers to people whose work visas expired (and they entered 100% legally).

There are areas that just need proof of address instead of identification. When I first registered I just had to provide mail with my address on it. In subsequent elections I just had to tell them who I am and sign. It changed once voter id laws passed. Also, if I remember right, there are places undocumented immigrants can get identification for the purpose of voting

Maybe I'm getting hung up on the word "undocumented" as it sounds like there's documentation in proof of residence or identification - so more proof of citizenship.

Many local elections. It is primarily federal offices that they cannot. Keep in mind that there is still an asterisk: it is the federal laws that say nothing about not being allowed, not that they are guaranteed that right. It is on a state-by-state basis that allows for undocumented people to vote, of which many have laws in the books about it. So you'd have to look at the specific state to know whether or not you can in that particular state.

Wouldn't they need some form of identification though? Or are there local elections that have open ballot boxes where anybody can put in as many votes as they like?

Why do so many people still call them illegals or illegal immigrants? It's a tactic to dehumanize them. We don't really do that for other crimes

Part 1 didn't portray much of Supes or Batman, what little they did is true to their identity, but not to the Timmverse.

It mainly follows Flash and the portrayal shares nothing with the Timmverse Flash. It's quite a good movie and falls inline with the current post-Apocolipse/Flashpoint universe.

Thanks - seems it's worth checking out then. I became familiar with Flash through Timmverse so Wally holds a special place in my heart for having no personal tragedy but wanting to help people

I used to have one like the crossbows and catapults but it was different, like a better castle that used rubber bands when hit would send your troops flying. One side had the castle and the other was going through a forest

They just want some finality and put it in writing. At the same time though, they could have told Trump to fuck off with a shadow docket ruling.

I wouldn't expect the oral arguments to be fun for Trump or his lawyers.

Whether the SC would take the case was a big debate here, I suppose if nothing else we've answered that question.

I'm pretty sure you have to get permission before using them, I remember one of my loacl parks getting on people for using them.

The same park has a water spigot too, which they have to lock outside of events. Just because it's there doesn't mean it's free use for anyone at any time, obviously

1) Not the ones I've been to - they've been first come first serve, especially in the larger parks with multiple grills
2) I thought you were saying people shouldn't cook food at parks? Complaining about them not getting permission is a different argument

I didn't. It's entirely possible James was well aware this was going to happen, but if so I would have expected some sort of request to the judge at the beginning of the trial freezing any sort of asset move until after the trial had concluded. Since asset freezing is a pretty common order to request I guess I interpreted this request being reactionary vs previously proposed as being surprise, but I could easily be wrong. Whether she knew or not doesn't change the ruling in any way though.

Where did you read that asset freezing was "pretty common" in civil trials against businesses/business owners? I can think of lots of reasons she wouldn't pursue this before the trial started (and I'm not a lawyer).

I'm saying nobody should have been surprised. It's been common knowledge that one of the outcomes of that case could be that his business license would be stripped by the state. Any business would be making plans to find a different state to move to because it would take time to get all the paperwork filed. The alternative would have been doing nothing, having the state strip him of his business license, and then having to go through the process of moving somewhere else while also dealing with the fact that your businesses have to shut down in that timeperiod.
