It's getting really bad in Indonesia. We were #2 of new cases today, with 31k+ cases.

After losing my uncle last year, I finally lost someone I knew firsthand today, an ex-coworker. Also two of my aunts are tested positive and my mom is (rightfully) quite stressed about it. Two of my cousins as well, but they're still relatively young and should be okay.

But the hardest is seeing all the obituaries. I know at least six of my friends lost their mother since the pandemic. My mother lost like three of her friends, and my father one of his. Just terrible time all around. At least my family is keeping ourselves as safe as possible, we purchase our groceries online now, we take vitamin D and other supplements as well. Hopefully we'll be safe.

So the doctor did some basic tests and said everything is fine
But he referred me to lungs CT scan and a breathing test just in case
Today I had a breathing test and the doctor said the results are good
And next month (god damn it) I am going back to the first doctor and show him the scan results

I am not imagining this. Also I am totally not sure if I want them to find something wrong or not

Fargo
8/10

Fargo was one of the first movies I watched due to its reputation (instead of personal appeal) and I wasn't disappointed. Though crime/drama isn't really my favorite, but it's still very interesting to watch due to the way its plot is set up and especially thanks to Frances McDormand. I LOVE Marge Gunderson. She's just so charming with her accent and little furry cap. And she's PREGNANT?! Wow. Iconic.
Though some of the slower, more drama-heavy scenes kindaaa lost my interest at moments so that's why I gave it 8 out of 10.

Perfect Blue
8/10
It's still a tragedy we lost Kon too early. His works are unlike anything else. Though Perfect Blue is not my favorite but it's still very engaging and scary at times. I do like the scenes where we're made to wonder if it takes in reality or imagination, but I especially appreciate when the movie shows the 'real' explanation - like Rumi running along, demented, instead of idol!Mima jumping effortlessly, or how there were 'two' Mima rooms. Brilliant.

The Love Witch
4/10

I feel like it's a loving tribute to 1970's-1980's schlocky horror movies, but it just doesn't subvert things enough to make it interesting. Its biggest problem, for me, is that it just doesn't have a hook. I don't really care about what Elaine or the cop guy are doing, since...well. I couldn't find a reason to root for her. And everything goes swimmingly for her anyway so there's barely any tension.
Maybe it's making some points about female sexuality and relationships but it's all very blunt that it kinda hurts the cause...

Hunt for the Wilderpeople - 8/10

I also went into this one completely blind and was pleasantly surprised.

I thought the movie was gonna be like We Need to Talk About Kevin but I'm glad it's more like Up. The relationship between Rick and Hector was great, but Rick and Bella's was amazingly sweet as well. The characters feel real despite the comedic trappings. Their journey in the woods was also exciting all the time. And I enjoyed the New Zealand locality that Taika Waititi infused lovingly into the movie.

The song is from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical 'Evita'. Well, from a Norwegian version of it anyway. I remember in the nominations topic you said you like songs that sound unconventional, and this is one of the most unconventional arrangement of a musical songs I know, so I nominated it.

The lyrics are actually about political intrigue, as Eva and Juan Peron (the main female and male singers) discuss on how to gain power against their political rivals.

When Marnie Was There - 8/10

A very touching movie and surprisingly one of the most enjoyable Ghibli movies for me, maybe because of its air of mystery that keeps the slow-ish pacing intriguing. The sudden friendship blossoming was a bit weird at first but I got used to it. I love the conclusion/twist though perhaps it was too exposition-heavy.
Also, I was surprised by an English song being played over the credits.

45 Years - 8/10

Another slow drama kinda deal, but I like it a lot. It's refreshing seeing an older couple for once and the acting is superb. The lead actress' expressions towards the end are heartwrenching...
Also, bonus points for British accents.

Aww, well that's understandable. Showtunes are typically hard to separate from the context and this is a pretty context-heavy one, but I still enjoyed it due to how emotionally charged it is and the interesting interplay between the three characters.
