So this dude wasn't paying child support at all. But this agreement they had was so unfavorable towards him that he STILL went for custody despite not paying her a cent, knowing he would still have to pay for it. And your takeaway from this is "Yeah, I think we can come to an agreement and that there's no reason to not go to court with this."

Like you think this is some kind of adversarial thing. Corrik, you can literally make this as painless as possible by amicably agreeing to terms before the hearing. Hell, there doesn't even have to be a child support hearing if you guys get it squared away, in court. You'll attend one hearing to figure out child support payments, but aside from that, you guys can actually dictate everything else, file the paperwork necessary, and they can cancel the custody hearing. It can actually be this painless, but you want legal counsel there to support you. It doesn't need to be ugly at all.

Hell, if you're worried about her paying for a lawyer, you can actually pay for hers as well. But you NEED to have something figured out and legally binding, because if she wants to change her mind on how often you see your kid, then you have the law protecting you. You can't just pass around the child on the honor system of whoever the kid feels like hanging out with on that day.

But you NEED to have actual legal backing to all of this. It doesn't work without people working for your interests, your ex's interests, and your kid's interests. It's not fair to put everyone through all this stress all over again 6 months, 1 year, 4 years down the line because somebody is unhappy with the terms now.

I have more knowledge about this than I would assume anyone else in this topic unless they happen to have gone through child support proceedings personally, and also in Pennsylvania. And everything I am telling you is with absolutely confidence and surety of what I'm saying. Get a lawyer and get this done the right way, because when you go for this consultation they're just going to go "Wait, you want to just agree to pass the kid back and forth whenever you want? Here's why this won't work." They're going to tell you everything I have said and urge that you get this done legally, the right way.

I'm in the legal field.

I know all about marital proceedings (AND YES CHILD CUSTODY STUFF IS INCLUDED).

I have been involved in more marital proceedings than I ever wanted to.

I have seen the disaster these child custody things turn into.

I have two friends with kids who have gone through divorces and child custody proceedings very recently, one of which in Pennsylvania, the state you are in.

I am intimately aware of how this works, and I have tried helping you in this entire topic and you just ignore it.

Getting a legal documentation of custody rules is VITAL to this, or else it takes one person getting upset to throw the whole thing out of whack. And judging by what you've said about your ex, it's likely to be her.

Again, like myself and many others have said, this isn't for revenge, or to hurt her, or "escalate" things. This is to put into place an agreement that is impartial for both you and your ex because if you don't do it now, you're going to do it down the road.

Do you think I'm saying all of this because I don't know what I'm talking about or I haven't seen this play out? Fuck, dude. Get a god damn lawyer and get this done the right way for the health of you, your ex, and your kid, and stop acting like you know more than me when you're admitting you're not in the right state of mind.

To further point out how absurd it is, no judge is going to say "Oh, yeah, sure. The child can come and go when he pleases" and "Give him money when he needs it" because he knows he'll have to see your stupid asses in another six months when that plan doesn't work to waste more of his time in a custody battle that is bound to be messier than it is now.

I went to see Godzilla vs. Kong in theaters last night, because I saw the rest of the Legendary Monsters movies in theaters.

Divorce proceedings don't really favor men or women anymore-- they favor the have nots because obviously every marriage is 50/50.

Man being the breadwinner is the cliche but if it's the woman they get wrecked all the same these days.

It greatly depends on if a child is involved. And then the disparity in income from both parties.

What helps in this case is that Corrik never got married to her, and everything is under his name. We're assuming he is allowing the mother to have primary custody here, which means he'll also have to pay child support.

From there, and I know for a fact this is how it works in PA, if girlfriend lives in the house, the payments there will be taken out of child support, and if he gives her the car, that will also be taken out of it.

I am assuming that she also isn't making enough on her own that she wouldn't be able to get either signed into her name yet either (as they will reject it unless you can make enough money) which is why the continual payments will be taken from his child support payment.

But they literally do dumb it down to equations between the two, to avoid anyone getting screwed over in this situation nowadays.

You need a lawyer. That isn't to punish your wife. It's not to attack her. It's not to take advantage of her or anything. You need a lawyer because they protects YOU and YOUR interests in this. They will help guide you through this difficult process and make sure you don't get hurt more than you have to. If you don't get a lawyer, your chances of being able to see your child as often as you'd like after this plummet.

I know it hurts. And I'm sorry you're in so much pain right now, but it's very important you get a lawyer to talk you through this process now before things get out of hand. Because their advice is going to be a million times more important than any advice we can give you right now.

Please get a lawyer for your sake, your wife's sake, and your child's sake.

red, the things of actual value are going to be under his name like the car and house. They're safe. It's other things that will be up for grabs and usually just worked on by both parties unless they're worth appraising for value. Usually they just say "You can have this but give me this, this, and this."

And no, common law marriage isn't a thing in PA.

But yes, Corrik needs to get a lawyer yesterday for the sheer fact that you just fucking want one and if he's serious about custody--guess what? You're not going to win over a single judge to show how responsible you are without a lawyer. Get a lawyer.

Okay, screw what everyone is saying. What I say still stands: be the bigger person in this issue so you don't get fucked on child support and custody and the judge looks at you favorably. The car payments will be factored into it as well, so don't even worry about that.

Don't kick her out. Go to a hotel, offer to pay for a hotel for her. Do whatever you need to. Get a lawyer right now though. Like talk to one today.

Any lawyer will tell you to take the high road on all of this, even when she doesn't deserve it. The Judge won't care about what she did vs. what you did as much as what you're doing right now for the betterment of her and your family.

But you need a lawyer for this. Get one.

That said, in most states you cant just throw someone out of your house that you have a living agreement with. There is usually a process you have to undertake.

A process Corrik should be looking into and enacting but that we all know he wont.

Corrik, a divorce court isn't going to completely fuck you if you take steps to be the bigger person in it, when it's clear she's being unreasonable. The best thing you can do is take the high road throughout this and the Judge will notice and appreciate that, especially if she tries to make things difficult.

But you should start the divorce process now so this can be resolved ASAP. Get a lawyer, listen to what they say, and be overly reasonable to accommodate her during this. If she at any point keeps you from entering your house, call the cops and they'll take care of letting you back in.

To follow up on this, they showed off the body cam footage this morning and apparently a female cop screamed Taser multiple times, pulled the gun on him and shot him once, then immediately said "Oh my god I shot him."

So it seems like a legitimate case of her not wanting to shoot him and went to use the taser, but then she just... Fucking shot him instead in the heat of the moment. Which, frankly, is atrocious as well in its own way and Jesus they need to train these people better because this shouldn't happen.

Nobody was in actual danger. I can't fathom not taking the moment to make sure "Yes, I'm holding my taser and not my lethal murder weapon."

Also, I can't speak for other people criticizing AOC on this, but it all just comes across as faker than usual because of that pathetic photoshoot she did.

Like if you feel passionately enough about kids in cages that you will embarrass yourself with the world's most dramatic photoshoot, you should still keep that same energy since the kids in cages issue is arguably worse in some aspects right now.

Why aren't people allowed to drag a politician for doing something stupid they don't agree with? I know AOC gets dragged for a bunch of stupid stuff, but this is absolutely something reasonable to say "Hey now AOC" over.
