Your friend should be talking to a lawyer immediately about this before doing anything or saying anything. This is a complicated thing.

But any evidence of abuse, verbal, written, or physical, will help.

Yeah that's one of those phrases that offers a lot of wiggle room. Is cashiering at McDonald's a "suitable job" for a 60-year-old who was making 100k before Covid?
Fun Fact!: McDonalds reports everyone currently on unemployment to try revoking their unemployment benefits from them if they don't take their shitty fry cooking positions for minimum wage for 10 hours a week.

Just outstanding stuff when people are currently fighting back against being paid and treated like shit at these minimum wage jobs and businesses are finally being pressured into actually treating their employees like humans.

Like honestly, a couple of my friends would have to either bow out of golf because they didn't have the money to play it and I would pay for them just so they could go, or they would actively have to save money in order to go. And these were at cheap-moderately priced courses. They got their clubs from their dad or a friend, and they played better than me a lot of times. Another friend of mine bought his clubs off of a neighbor on the cheap.

Miss me with this "Oh, they're engaging in a part of this wealthy subculture." That was a hobby we shared that we loved to do together, and they made it work. It's like if they had to budget to buy a new video game they were looking forward to.

People will always find ways to justify and paint their hobbies in the best possible light

But that's life. People spend money on things that make them happy.

Golf and skiing are wealthy people hobbies, full stop. It doesn't matter if some people can play on a budget. You're participating in a wealthy subculture if you golf

It doesn't matter if "it's not as expensive as owning a boat". being for wealthy people doesn't have to be something you get defensive about

No matter how reasonable golf is compared to going to the movies or whatever, it's still infinitely more expensive than playing soccer or basketball
lmao Alright, I'll let some of my friends know about this wealthy subculture they're participating in.

It's not even being defensive at this point. It's just sense dude. Are we participating in a wealthy subculture because we play video games? Or is the line here between wealthy subculture purchasing anything more than a ball? Just because wealthy people have a hobby they can throw a lot more money into doesn't mean the entire hobby is for wealthy people. You can spend a ridiculous amount of money on almost any hobby.

Golf being a rich person's game isn't "a take" - it's the truth. The financial barrier to entry is probably the highest for any sport that doesn't require a horse. Golf courses are the size of neighborhoods; they are excessive by design, and the pompous culture of avid golfers leans into that hard.

I remember my golf outings when I worked for a major financial services firm. Our managing partner would force the office to go out for an occasional golf day as a "thank you" after busy seasons. It was basically another day of work since none of the millennials wanted to be there dealing with snide remarks and side-eyes from the entitled old pricks who golfed there all the time. I'd honestly rather have just been at the office, and everyone would have preferred the day off instead.

Golf sucks and I'm glad the youth are killing it.

And no, I'm not referring to putt-putt or top golf. Those are fine.
I'm sorry you have a hate-on for golf for whatever reason, but I've golfed tons of times with my friends who weren't financially well off at plenty of decent courses, and they primarily played with clubs they bought for cheap or got gifted.

If you treat it like a hobby, like a vast majority of people who golf do, then it's only as expensive as you want it to be, and at the ground it isn't that expensive at all.

Tony, don't actually challenge me on this. If there's an issue with her being able to afford a lawyer, and it's known to the judge that he's paying for the lawyer, it shows he's being a lot more reasonable than her in the situation and he'll get a better deal in custody. Especially since she cannot be expected to reasonably defend herself here without a lawyer.

I'm just going to say this again, in the hopes that maybe it sticks this time, but get a lawyer right now. Because that way your lawyer and her lawyer can both talk this out because clearly cooler heads aren't here. They will act as your go between and resolve this how you both absolutely can't. If she doesn't have a lawyer (she should) then pay for a lawyer for her.

But since custody is already being filed, your chances of getting a better deal are greatly improved by you having a lawyer and by you being the rational one in this situation trying to do the right moves.

Do this now, for the love of god. I don't care how little will or drive you have, make this happen. Take a day off to go talk to a lawyer if you have to. Just get a lawyer.

But this isn't a case of a murderous cop either way...
This falls under the same "shoot em in the leg" idea that doesn't work.

When you shoot someone in the chest, they aren't instantly dead. They aren't instantly stopping, especially with adrenaline running through them. Shooting them once and expecting them to be able to stop right there is movie stuff. It's not real life. You unload an entire clip into them to force the body to stop entirely, because one bullet doesn't do it a lot of times.

So body cam footage for the police shooting in Ohio was released. The victim goes from fighting with one girl while the cop walks up to turning and charging at another, who is standing off to the side with a dog in her hands, and then pushes her against a car and is mid-lunge with a knife when the cop pulls their gun and shoots.

Not too sure how to feel about it, since on one hand I absolutely don't like deadly force, but on the other hand I'm not sure what the answer would be for what I'd want them to do otherwise in a case like that since it's literally like a split second thing before somebody's about to be stabbed. It looks like he doesn't have anything in his hands when he's first approaching, so I'm not sure a taser would have worked since those have a safety and briefly need to charge, so it's a much more murky situation.
She could have still stabbed her if she was tased from that distance. Hell, she could have still stabbed her even while she was shot.

Like there is no situation here I think the cop was actually in the wrong. It was hectic, with another man kicking a woman while she was down right next to this. But when someone is in the middle of trying to fatally stab someone, there's just nothing else to do in that situation. He very well probably saved that other girl's life. Had he done anything else, including using a taser, there's a decent likelihood she'd be dead.

There wasn't even a chance for him to properly assess the situation or deescalate. I can't pin this one on the cop, and there's some weird mental gymnastics I've seen to make this seem like it's unjustified.

ChaosTonyV4 posted...

Absolutely insane.
