Guardians 2 is great wtf

I am continuing Dels's tradition of advancing without actually winning mafia games

I never thought about it before but it does kind of seem like they're making light of starbuck's actual ptsd

Being there at gdq is special - when I went, I sat in on a bunch of runs, but the best ones I sat in on were the Super Mario Maker/Pepsiman runs and the audience was super hype and enjoyed it so much and it was just a big party. It was really fun to experience. That said, nobody who goes to gdq really spends that much time in the stream room, you're doing other things because there's a lot of fun stuff going on for attendees there

I don't want to get into a fight about bingo vs randomizer; they're both things that have a long history in speedrunning and they both clearly belong at a gdq event in some fashion without having to be gatekept imo

I guess he's doing a solo run to just... have time to explain it? this really should have been a race, but gdq is really slow to try new ideas for some reason, cough

That botch with using the thunderbolt on Dragonite seemed really weird, I have no idea why he fucked that up

I wouldn't say it's a disaster. It's still early and I feel like he probably had to account for this in the estimate.

Why would I need an excuse when the NES is inferior to newer systems by every objective measure? Graphics, sound, mechanics, etc. It's fine if you like it but it's not amazing by any means. It's outdated and bad by today's standards. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy it though!

tl;dr: I played a game with strangers, made a (correct) judgement call, and a guy on my team got so put off by me not gaining team agreement that he quit and left the board game room

So anyway the gist of codenames. You have a grid, like 6x5 or something of cards with random words on them. Kangaroo, compound, poison, sink, shoe, etc. were examples.

Two teams. Each team has a code master. The code masters see a layout of which words are their team's words and which words are the other team's words, and which are neutral.

On your team's turn, the code master gives a single clue word, along with a number which indicates how many of your team's words are supposed to connect to that clue. You talk amongst yourselves and decide which words your clue master is indicating, and touch one at a time. As soon as you touch a word which isn't your team's word, your turn ends and passes to the other team.

I'd met some people and was playing this game. Having a good time, it's 4am, whatever, we're all saying dumb shit and not really caring how the game goes. Just laughing.

Well one time our clue from our code master was "Dancing, 2", meaning 2 words on the grid which are our team's words correlate to dancing. One word was "square", which we all immediately agreed upon and touched it and had it confirmed correct. So then we had to decide on the other word.

One of the words was "shoe", and I was like "Ok, it's clearly shoe, right guys?" I can't possibly remember the full grid but the other words were like...bell, force, sink, compound, kangaroo, platypus, dog, row, cross...idk, like 10 other words which just had no chance of being correct. I said each word aloud and nobody could present a case for a word other than shoe. My two teammates continued scratching their heads thinking hard. After like 30 more seconds I basically repeated myself and was like "how can it not be shoe?" Again nobody had an answer but they just WEREN'T READY to commit or agree.

Out of impatience I just touched the "shoe" card without their consent. Our code master was like "finally" and marked a point indicating I was correct. But my teammates were so put off by me not gaining their approval first that one of them literally got up and left the board game room and did not return. Under the basis of since it was my first time playing the game, I obviously didn't have the authority to make such an audacious call. Even though I was literally confirmed right immediately, and it was a blatantly obvious clue.

This is way off topic really but I just had to vent about that. Jesus.

I play Codenames a lot. They're in the wrong here. You made the right call.

It was still a good run, but I wish we would move on from weapon switching

I just really dislike legacy Cuphead because of the weapon switching sadly - I think this game is engaging when you're not quickkilling every phase

I feel like he'd purposefully just select facts for what he agrees with, and then claim the poll is liberally biased when he's wrong, even if he's smart enough to know the difference between facts and opinions.

Yeah I completely forgot Pees'lubn, I think I meant to look up his name and then just forgot to so I forgot to include him but I did discretely think of him and was going to put him in category 2 (no major physical transformation, but a significant long-lasting shift in personality and animations)

Also yeah I meant to put Yew/Shih-na as a special case - she has two different personas but we never really see a shift between the two so there's no "transformation" so to speak

Just for fun, I made a list of every transformation in the series that I could think of and broke them down into what I see as three major categories based on magnitude - it's a bit loose (not all of them are culprits) but yeah you can really see how much 6 ESPECIALLY leans on them

Yeah I was thinking about it and actually like, there aren't that many characters in the series who really have a 'transformation' but they really do turn it up in the latter two games

Although my actual favorite part of that moment is the Judge being worried about Blackquill scolding everyone, and then it cuts to him and he's just as shocked as everyone else

Blackquill is so great

I know it's weird how they push Marlon aside for a bit post-transformation but god

his transformation is one of my favorite moments in the entire series

it's awe-inspiringly good

I've never been more surprised

Depends on the game but I'm never satisfied with a game until I'm playing it on at least what passes for "hard"

aw man, I think Sasha is great! she kind of reminds me of Will Powers, just a really likeable defendant who's easy to root for, and I think she's great in the role of the person who you accidentally get accused at the end of the first trial day

Oh I was slightly confused by the very beginning part in Asgard as well but I think Avengers 1 is probably enough

other than that I'm not even really sure you need to watch Avengers 1 to be caught up but it's probably not a bad idea to get a baseline for the most important characters

That's kinda why I also think GotG should be watched since that introduces a large portion of the cast and they get more of a character arc in IW than anyone else does aside from maybe Vision/SW

Strictly speaking I agree with this but I kinda think Civil War introduces Scarlet Witch and Vision well enough and it's a much better movie.

Basically my list is just doing that but subbing Winter Soldier + Civil War for Avengers 2

I was just basing my list off the fact that that was the only part of Infinity War where I was like "I don't understand what's going on right now and I wish I knew who these people were"

I haven't played Minecraft, GTAV, or PUBG, so that's three of the top 5

Also I still contest Tetris's numbers, I'm really skeptical of that 170 million figure and which particular variants of Tetris they are counting

I mean, while this is true, the first Star Wars movie my sister saw was The Phantom Menace, and she decided based on that that the entire series was hot garbage. I had to talk her into going to see TFA, which she did, and enjoyed, and then was actually really positive on TLJ too (more than I was).

Starting with Phantom Menace is just asking for trouble, though. There's so much bad in that film that it's really hard to see the good. Pointless underwater sequence, pod racing (some people liked it I guess), Jar Jar Binks.

I just want to say that the pod racing sequence in TPM is my least favorite part of the movie, and that's taking into account all the other bad parts of the movie

it's just so damn boring and completely devoid of any tension or excitement

it's just a special effects extravaganza and I mean I admit the vehicles look cool but that's all there is to it

So I watched Infinity War with no other experience other than the two GotGs

I think the only movie that would have helped me follow the plot was Avengers 2 so I could know who Vision and Scarlet Witch are, because they receive probably the least explanation of any of the unfamiliar characters in the movie

Everything else I basically understood just because everyone knows who the characters are, or the characters aren't important enough to matter (I didn't know who all the Captain America related people are but I don't care)

I don't think you need to see Civil War so much as you just need to know it happened and that's good enough

Most of the characters or plots I didn't know about I either already knew about vaguely enough to get the idea, or they were presented briefly enough that I got the idea.

I think a list of like Avengers -> GotG -> Avengers 2 is good enough to catch anyone up probably!

The main question is probably where Blackquill ends up - he had 250 lines in 5-2 and that seems about par for the course for the other cases he's in, and he also has a reasonably substantial role in 6-4. He'll be somwhere between Lang and Mia I think.

I forgot that Trucy even appears in 5-6
