Like, it's kinda telling when the only positive thing that the prequels apparently have over the sequels is that they told a consistent story across all three of its movies.

Even this isn't really true tbh. The prequels feel like (because they are tbh) somebody had an endpoint they had to reach and worked backwards from that to fill out 3 movies of build up. Nobody can even succinctly explain the story of lack thereof of TPM. Anakin's arc is terribly done and actually shows him showing some redemptive points prior to turning to vader in rots. There's a whole broader point about the jedi attemptedly made which is kneecapped by awful writing and confused delivery. It's crazy people use these vague platitudes to defend them, as if the prequels weren't a huge Disney esque cash grab top

idk if we had a topic like this. i know @Parappa09 did one for TV shows and probably has some good contributions for this too...

anyway, on the back of some quick research and in no particular order i'd say my top 5 is:

• the favourite (this came out on 1 January here so it counts )
• midsommar
• ad astra
• marriage story
• burning (this only got a non festival release in europe in 2019 iirc)

some honourable mentions:

• toy story 4 (I love this!)
• booksmart
• the irishman (extremely well made and entertaining but a part of me doesn't love it with other stuff this year)
• knives out (just a really well made film that twists some well worn tropes around in a highly entertaining way)

Yeah I liked true detective a lot tbh but I feel like I watched it, enjoyed it and moved on.

I really liked Mr robot s1 and s2 but forgot to keep up when s3 started and it seems a bit daunting to try and reacquaint myself with it now. I heard s4 was great though

I think a lot of people actually do a controlled, slight version of this which makes their faces look better in photos. The problem in the op and all similar pics is that the people doing it are aggressively overdoing it and are just not good looking people to begin with.

Always found it weird that all the ugly right wing gamergate types used to project so hard on other ugly gamer types for doing this tbh, especially the assumed political/dietary stuff but whatever

Man im actually struggling with this a bit. Have def dropped the ball on TV shows a bit this year.

I think the shows that immediately comes to mind are:
Watchmen
Barry (I haven't even finished this!)
Sex Education

I liked the good place this year a lot but think it suffers a bit from an end of year pov by being a fourth season rather than something fresh. I also liked the end of the fucking world a lot but think s1 was better and for some reason in my head I think it and sex ed are too similar to both make a top 5
