Star Wars Theory is probably the biggest Star Wars YouTuber, and he really liked the film despite hating TLJ and shitting on it.
Star Wars Theory ain't got nothing on The Lore Master and Star Wars Explained

Oh I like those guys from what Ive seen of them but he has almost double their subscribers combined. I just mentioned him in the sense that hes a longtime Star Wars fan who knows all the lore, and yet he still enjoyed TROS.

I'm not one to claim that anything retroactively ruins an entire franchise if it was good before so I find that a bit silly. But I haven't seen Rise of Skywalker yet so I don't know how I would feel about it yet.
Previous films are still good themselves, but the series as a whole has been changed with the Sequels. They are continuations of previous films.

There are established rules within the Star Wars universe. The ST bends and breaks some of these rules. Decades worth of lore tossed out the window.

What rules were tossed out?

Star Wars has never been like The Expanse or Kingkiller Chronicle where the ways the universe and magic and science work by a very consistent and rigid set of rules.

The codification of every minute detail of the star wars universe was honestly one of the worst things to happen to the franchise.

The EU going into painstaking detail of how Darth Vader's suit works was probably one of the worst things we didn't need, lol.

Rey's powerful connection to the force just because she descends from Emperor Palpatine. The Force isn't genetic. That's a Skywalker trait.

I don't understand people who say this.

In old film canon, the entire crutch is on the Skywalker family and all of them having force connections.

In old EU canon, we had a whole multimedia story about the son of a Jedi becoming super fucking powerful and becoming Vaders apprentice.

In the new canon, we have Rey being the granddaughter of Palpatine.

Besides...as much as we dislike the whole "midichlorians" thing...that kinda supports the "the Force can be genetically inherited" plot point if it's biological.

In the old EU the force was usually genetic

Jedi families and bloodlines were a thing before the order forbid unions.

The Qel Droma family is a pretty notable example

Although trolling sides is hilarious when it comes to that fandom, the new movie was ok. It's fine as long as you don't think about it too much.

I really liked the ending tbh

Celebratory montage
Chewie getting the medal
Lando looking around sadly since all his friends are dead
Big trio hug
Everything at the Lars homestead

Only thing I'd have preferred is a tweak to the last line. Rey responding happily with either "no one" or "Just Rey" instead of "Rey Skywalker"

Fits her arc better imo

I like to think that Skywalker could have been the name of the method or organization or whatever that Rey uses to distribute the Jedi texts across the galaxy. Something like that would have been a nice way to compliment the previous film's ending scene, I think. Last Jedi ended by saying that anyone could be Force capable; that it didn't just belong to an elite group of knights or a couple of gross baddies. So Rise of Skywalker ends by completely democratizing the knowledge and wisdom that goes along with it; figuratively rising from her possession to walk through the sky to reach the people, never to be suppressed again. A bit heavy handed and perhaps a little ironic, but I like it, and it definitely says something great, which is a much better way to end a 42 year story than saying not much at all. Instead, its just a name Rey takes for herself, which says something, but its less interesting, I think. Oh well.
