that's got nothing to do with what I said but sure

I mean, it does. Do you reunite with someone every time you Skype them? He wasn't there. And, sure, Leia thought he was, but it was just a short conversation across the Galaxy.

She 100% knew he wasn't really there. She has a Force link with him, you think she couldn't sense that he wasn't directly in front of her?

That's why she left the dice, she knew they were an illusion. She wouldn't leave the dice if she thought they were real, considering how much said dice represent Han.

It was clearly enough of a reunion for her!

I also don't feel like it's completely pointless if it results in character development even if it's technically "unimportant" to the resolution of the movie. Finn's role in the movie is to get him from the guy who's still deathly afraid of the First Order and still doesn't think the Resistance has any chance to win, to a guy who proudly identifies himself as a rebel and is willing to die for the cause. To me, that's not a waste of time.

Funny because that is EXACTLY his arc in the first movie. Deathly afraid of the First Order. Willing to die to go on an impossible mission to save Rey and even go toe to toe with Kylo in a lightsaber battle to help her.

Can you at least acknowledge that much?

For Rey.

Not The Resistance as a whole. He's still running away from the Resistance as a whole at the beginning of TLJ, again specifically for Rey.

If episode IX opens with the Knights of Ren wiping out the First Order once and for all, and we're truly done with "SUPER FIREPOWER EMPEROR OVERWHELMS SMALL REBEL ALLIANCE SAVE A MIRACLE" that's been the core mechanic of 6 Star Wars movies, I will be super happy.

That would be awesome.

Something that I overlooked is that Luke says when Ben flipped out and left the temple in ruins, he left with six other Jedi apprentices. Where are they now?

Have they joined the dark side and developed their powers, and now that Ren is in power, will they join his side?

The implication was always that these were the Knights of Ren, if I recall we see their silhouettes in TFA.

A restored Jedi order vs. the Knights of Ren would be a really great finale to this series. Much better than "How can the Resistance/Rebellion over come the First Order/Empire THIS time?"

Rian seems to have retconned the knights of Ren.

The vision and what was shown in VIII do not line up.

Nah they're still a thing. I'm somewhat confused why everyone seems to think that vision was the past and is now a plot hole due to TLJ. I've always thought it was a glimpse of a possible future and if anything TLJ strengthened that.

He is wearing his now smashed to pieces mask.

Your point?

"Always in motion, the future is" is a lesson Yoda taught Luke long ago.

Yeah Snoke and Ren aren't Sith per Lucasfilm IIRC.

The current books have Palpatine sensing a strong dark side presence in the Unknown Regions back during the OT which people think is Snoke. Apparently Snoke was also manipulating Ben to the dark side even while he was in the womb or some other dumb shit.

Haven't actually read any of the new stuff though so this is just what I've read.

This cant be any more spelled out unless you want Palpatine to say Im your daddy or Plagus was your daddy.

And you believe Palps? You might be dumber than Anakin and Palpatine wasn't manipulating you.

Palps literally just says "Oh yeah we can totally do that thing that you really desperately want to be able to do just help me out bro!" and Anakin buys it.

Kylo Ren's going down to meet Luke Skywalker was out of character.

Kylo Ren going to meet Luke was 100% in character, especially after the dust-off taunt.

Yes...Obi-Wan literally moves some plants aside to sit on a log in Empire. Force Ghosts affecting the physical world has been a thing since then!

I guess I liked Finn/Rose just fine as well

And yeah people are overanalyzing the lightspeed thing when the only reason it worked it was a commander ship

A bunch of X-wings wouldn't work that well.

You are justifying it. Of course a snub fighter can't do what we saw, but we have seen many capital ship battles in which this could have happened. Especially by the rebellion. Endor specifically. Clone Wars battles? Droid ships.

Endor is an example of a place where the technique wouldn't work though. Too close to the planet's gravity well to jump, and the Death Star likely generates one as well.

People are over analyzing it. My impression is that it only really worked because Hux dismissed it initially and because of the extreme close range. Imagine trying to calculate a weaponized hyperspace jump into a moving target thousands of light years away. Very difficult and likely a factor in why they just don't do it.

I might be the only one who liked the Finn/Rose arc.

Finn continues his arc of being a bit of a coward who continually runs away from the greater fight to try to save the people he cares about (Rey) from TFA and eventually full on changes and is willing to sacrifice himself for the Resistance as a whole. Rose is the opposite, a Resistance lifer, and she's there to be a foil to him and get him to that point. The romance though, meh.

Her saving him at the end kind of ties back into the Holdo/Leia/Poe plot with the idea that the Resistance doesn't always need the big heroic sacrifice, sometimes you just need to survive.

Poe ordering the retreat at the end shows at least he learned the lesson! Finn demanding they go out and help Luke was a nice touch - now he's in Poe's shoes from the beginning of the film as the hothead "let's blow 'em up!" guy.

I loved it as a way that Kylo actually surpassed Vader, at least in a small manner.

Vader planned for years to kill and overthrow Palpatine, and never pulled the trigger, partially because Palpatine was literally the only person he had left until Luke. Kylo may have jumped the gun a bit but he did pull it off without turning back to the light like Vader.

Seen some speculation that the reason Holdo's suicide jump worked so well is that the Supremacy is so huge that it generates a small gravity well and yanked the Raddus out of hyperspace near immediately.

On that note I love that the lead Resistance cruiser is called the Raddus, nice callback to Rogue One.

Yeah this is true, she's basically implied to be his equal due to being a twin.

If we bring in Legends canon she's potentially just as strong but focuses on politics over her training and thus isn't as good as she could be.

Wouldn't be surprised if that makes it into Disney's new books in some way.

It's never stated that Finn is Force sensitive so I'm not sure where you picked that up! There was tons of fan speculation regarding that but nothing concrete, and I'm leaning a hard no on him being Force sensitive at all after TLJ.

That was incredible. Shardblades can't truly kill the fused, but I bet Nightblood can. I'm sure we'll find out soon. It's been a long time since I've read Warbreaker, and I'm tempted to reread it now.

Sanderson has said that Nightblood is one of the most invested objects in the Cosmere that isn't a shard, so I could buy it taking out a Fused by like eating the actual soul that would respawn.

I also love how Szeth refers to Nightblood respectfully as sword-nimi. They make a good pair and I'm looking forward to Szeth's book. The Szeth/Lift team was really nice at the end. I didn't know that's something I wanted to see. Nightblood even likes her. Next up, let's see some Lift interactions with Rock and Lopen.

This so much.

Had no idea Szeth and Lift teaming would be so good but now I want more of it.

And if Adolin manages to fully awaken his dead blade (Sanderson confirmed it to be possible and it seems to be happening slowly) it seems like he'll be an Edgedancer as well as it's the same type of spren as Wyndle.

If that's the case he'll have to go to Lift to train and that will be incredible.
