Personally, the thing I find most annoying about him was killing Coulson off in The Avengers, because killing off characters is the only way he knows how to ramp up tension. Then deliberately helping to bring him back on the TV show that he produces and his brother and sister-in-law are in charge of, while simultaneously badmouthing the idea of bringing Coulson back even though it was his idea in the first place. Killing Coulson didn't bother me. His death was well-done and even though he was a minor character, it did have impact after seeing him in 2-3 other movies beforehand. I think the reason they seemed less expressive than usual was because they were trying to match the Japanese dialog too much.
