Another pair of alarmingly noncompetitive road games by the Islanders. Their spot in the metro top 3 feels up for grabs for any team that can get it together and run a streak of 5 games.

Varlamov may as well have been the #1 star of this game despite being the losing goaltender. Tripled in shots, and the only goal he gave up was on a turnover that may as well have been right in front of his net.

I think I dislike everything in this proposal, which is pretty impressive.

The #1 teams getting byes is a pretty clueless gesture especially since byes are usually death in baseball. Teams that sweep the CS have a very bad record in the WS against teams who won it in 6-7, and are usually out within 5 games. Washington just won this way, but they are not the norm. The extra days off generally hurt more than help.

Most teams aren't going to want the loss of rhythm that comes with that bye. It's a punishment for doing too good.

Mets should fire Beltran takes are hilariously awful. Whether or not you agree, MLB absolved all the players and none are being punished. Why should the Mets punish Beltran in light of MLB saying they are not at fault? Further I'd you think the Mets should do something despite MLB saying they're ok, then it follows that you think every other former or current Astro who may or may not possibly have been involved should also be punished no matter what team they're on right?

Like this is absolutely brutally bad take to think he should be fired as a Met for something he did as an Astro when MLB already cleared it. Feel free to not like the fact he, or any Astro participated in the scheme cuz it sucks that this happened but it makes literally 0 sense for him to get fired over it unless you are going to suspend or "fire" every Astros player which is stupid. The coaches and higher ups are the ones at fault here. The players were likely just following orders
The MLB repeatedly namedropped him in a way that is begging the Mets to punish him themselves because the MLB doesn't want to go through the union to do it. He was clearly one of the people who originated the concept.

Beltran should've been out before Cora.

The Mets will spend all year under massive negative scrutiny if they keep Beltran and it will make them the butt of the league like they've never been before.

Honestly I'd prefer they not win with him. Any success they have with Beltran comes with a giant asterisk. I'd be far more comfortable with them losing 100 games than with the taint that comes from winning a world series under Beltran.

I didn't consider a game complete unless I've done it without a save state at all or unless it's Battletoads tier. Like I beat TMNT1 without them and that's probably worse than all the NGs combined.

It primarily makes it much quicker to learn a game first before you go through it later, as such, for me it's mostly just a convenience tool that shaves potentially several hours off of a game that I can then put to better use.

I'll take having that five hours of my life to do other things with!

Save states are absolutely a valuable way of training though, especially for boss fights that are either annoying to get to or have multiple parts. It just makes it significantly faster to achieve.

I beat MM7 without a subweapon or a death (or an E Tank but I basically don't use those ever) in particular because I spent 20-30 minutes save state training on Wily one day and increased my likelihood of dodging his attacks significantly. Of course when I booted up my SNES to do it for real I still had to GET there, but when I did, I only took 16 damage the entire fight with him in part because I trained on it. Does that make it less that I spent 20-30 minutes to learn him rather than 2-3 hours? Not really.

**** Slash Man though.

I do agree though especially on the NES that some games were designed very unfavorably, with Ninja Gaiden being one of the poster boys for it.

Don't bring fire magic to the first of three end game bosses? You probably lose, restart all of stage 6.

Ok, so you beat him, but the next boss is virtually unbeatable the first time you face him without that magic... And we just took it from you after you cleared the first boss. Have fun restarting the stage again!

In slight fairness, you can beat boss 3 in one shot without it if you're good enough, though the same magic absolutely rips it apart too. Lose here and it's back to redoing the entire stage again.

If I recall there's a bad form of magic very close to the boss room that can cripple you (commit suicide immediately if you pick it up). Part of why the second game showed you what was in orbs before you hit them.

And here's a Jerry Jones reminder:

Jerry really wanted Manziel. He was determined to pick him and let nothing get in his way, because Jerry gets what Jerry wants.

He had so much backlash in his organization, and so many people tell him how big of a mistake it would be to take Manziel, that he actually listened to his people and didn't make the bad pick.

As much flak as Jerry gets sometimes, he's absolutely a better owner than Snyder and whatever puppet of a GM he's playing with at the time.

In fairness all Allen was was Snyder's yes man to begin with. If he comes back it's because Snyder couldn't find another one.

No one in the organization wanted Haskins except for Snyder.

Many people inside of Washington thought he was a third round pick at best. The people actually paid to evaluate talent had Daniel Jones much higher than Haskins, as just one example. Snyder had no interest in even listening to his own staff about it.

I wouldn't take that job unless there were absolutely no other options.

Though yes, Allen's had some beyond awful draft classes one after the other, but it's a place where the coach and GM cannot properly do their jobs at all.
