The creation of more fossil fuel infrastructure will lock us in to decades of emissions down the road; companies aren't building these just to shut them down in 10 years.

We will be using fossil fuel for at LEAST a few more decades. There is no sense in making it worse than it is. We simply do NOT have the infrastructure, technology, etc. to 'switch off' any time soon. By building pipelines, we are able to reduce the emissions of production and transportation substantially, allowing us more time to research new methodologies.

I live in a 'oil-rich' area... the amount of trains I see hauling oil is INSANE. Trains go by here at least 4 times a day, several KM long, hauling nothing but oil tankers. The amount of energy used to move this is outrageous, not to mention the amount of vehicles sitting idling waiting for the trains.

You're misleadingly conflating separate issues that are only tangentially related in that they're both about the environment. Greta's concern is climate change; while trash or train derailments are bad, they generally aren't responsible for putting greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. It's like being upset that cancer researchers aren't also researching heart disease because both are diseases.

Then why was she protesting pipelines? Pipelines would reduce emissions substantially - but she is opposed to them.

You see this is what a reasonable response to climate change questions looks like. These are the discussions that need to happen.

Stop being so alarmist to motivate people to action. We can't take every single vehicle off of the road. We need to be realistic and figure out what actually can or should happen.

EXACTLY! We cannot make these drastic changes that are being 'forced' upon us. We DO have time.

That said, a lot of those who cite '97% of scientists agree' that climate change is a real threat is very misleading. Looking into the study, it shows that 97% of a smaller portion of climate scientists who agree we are the sole cause of climate change believe this.

Cook et al. examined 11,944 abstracts from the peer-reviewed scientific literature from 19912011 that matched the topics 'global climate change' or 'global warming'.[13] They found that, while 66.4% of them expressed no position on anthropogenic global warming (AGW), of those that did, 97.1% endorsed the consensus position that humans are contributing to global warming. They also invited authors to rate their own papers and found that, while 35.5% rated their paper as expressing no position on AGW, 97.2% of the rest endorsed the consensus.

So 97% of 34.6% of 11,944 papers state this. That is a far cry from 97% of ALL scientists.

I think she has the right idea - but her methods are not realistic.

That said, as long as it benefits her or her team, she doesn't care about the environment. Also, whenever there is something that affects the environment but is NOT related to oil, she is no where to be seen.

https://nationalpost.com/news/world/no-injuries-in-b-c-train-derailment-environmental-crews-assessing-impacts-cn No mention of this ANYWHERE despite the fact that it could completely destroy an entire eco-system.

https://www.ctvnews.ca/business/final-cleanup-begins-at-dakota-access-pipeline-protest-camp-1.3301202 This should be a huge concern given the amount of trash removed - no mention again.

Basically, she is clearly selective in what she protests or targets. Even if we go further into her activities, she has denied ever wanting to speak to/with foreign governments which are actually causing environmental problems - instead, she sends her message to those who ultimately ARE working to reduce emissions. We cannot ever possibly go back to previous emissions levels - but we can reduce the impact of our existence.

Xenozoa425 posted...
Have to hard disagree with this mentality. An overweight body is nowhere close to an indication of good overall health. If you're fat, you either eat way too many carbs, you never exercise, you have hormone imbalances (insulin, testosterone, estrogen, cortisol), you drink too much alcohol, or any combination of those together.

How do you determine what is overweight? BMI is not accurate, nor are weight scales in terms of body composition. Everyone has a different 'ideal' size, which is why it is difficult to know how much a person has to weigh, consume, or exercise. Typical 'ideal' measurements are just the average 'ideal,' - not the ideal per person.

For example, I am a bigger person. Even before I gained weight, I was still larger framed - I was able to keep up physically with others who had 'ideal' BMI's in activities, despite weighing much more than them. My father is the same way, as was his father.

With that, I will mention that since adopting a more sedimentary life style, I have gained weight and am overweight currently.

It depends on the vehicle. A more 'modern' car has tighter tolerances and typically needs the synthetic. A not-so-new one can go back and forth without problem.

What sort of car?

EDIT: A synthetic blend for your vehicle? Chances are that you would be fine going for non-synthetic as I do not know of any manufacturer that recommends synthetic blend.

I agree.

Some characters have done well. The Spiderverse is one such example. Creating new characters does way more to be progressive than just gender/race swapping.

In other words, it is better to create a new character using in universe logic than it is to 'recreate' the character to fit a different role.

Create a character rather than fit the character.

In short, the amount of male-to-female transgender athletes is a very, very, very, very small population. Of the ones who are in the public, most have either come in top placements or win sporting events.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_demographics_of_the_United_States

The demographics of sexual orientation and gender identity in the United States have been studied in the social sciences in recent decades. A 2017 Gallup poll concluded that 4.5% of adult Americans identified as LGBT with 5.1% of women identifying as LGBT, compared with 3.9% of men.[1] A different survey in 2016, from the Williams Institute, estimated that 0.6% of U.S. adults identify as transgender.[2]

Which means that there's at least 1.5 million trans adults in the US alone

For one, a self-survey is not a diagnosis. Also, a self-survey can also be easily misled, as they only were able to interview people interested in being interview (meaning those who do the survey are more likely to fit in the category they were after - those who believe they are transgender; those who refused to complete it or refused to release the data are not counted). The study was also only done in 19 states, yet it is claimed to be that they are showing percentages for every state, and only 150,000 people answered the question out of the possible 400,000 who took the survey.

Depending on use. They are only warrantied for 70% up to 100,000 miles.

That said, they are a Lithium-Ion battery - which means the lose life more so over time than mileage. A car that gets driven 10 miles a day is going to need a battery replacement around the same time as someone who does 100 miles a day, essentially. A combustion engine, however, does not really have this problem. They are almost exclusively 'measured' by mileage. No one selling or buying combustion engine does so based on manufacture date.
