firstly, that example is WAY more extreme than what is going on here.

this is more like if a guy came up to you and started hollering about how sports are better than anime

then you started going into other discussions and talking about how everyone who likes sports more than anime are elitist assholes

'he did it first' was not a valid argument when you were 6 years old, and it's still not one today.

so yes

really

just because someone belittled you first doesn't somehow change the fact that you are now belittling others.

StealThisSheen posted...
The other side isn't going to the first side and going "Yo I beat the game with rewind and you just have to deal with it."

this is almost verbatim the exact stance you're taking

you're essentially saying that make matei should just 'deal with it' that people are going to use save states, but also in the same exact discussion claim that you aren't doing this

StealThisSheen posted...
As for the rest, is it not natural for people to want to defend themselves when they've randomly been attacked or belittled, or when they see somebody being attacked or belittled?

this is only a valid position if you are admitting that 'using rewind states is the correct way to play' and feeling that anyone who disagrees with that position is 'attacking you.'

which exactly lines up with what I just said two posts ago

so yes, looks like we agree.

That's the issue at hand

People that feel the need to dictate what is and isn't "beating" a game feel the need to make it a competition in order to try to feel superior to others for some reason. They don't want to feel on the same level as somebody who used rewind or savestates, thus they want to insist it's not beating the game. That way they can continue to look down on others. And just "Oh they used rewind" isn't enough, they feel the need to insist the other person can't say they beat the game at all.

That's the only reason that makes sense for people that are bothered by others beating a game differently than they did.

EDIT: And I'm not saying this to be insulting. I'm just saying that if you are truly bothered by somebody else saying they beat a game when they used rewind/save states/whatever, then you have some subconscious desire to feel superior/make it a competition, because otherwise it has no impact on you or your life whatsoever.

but aren't you doing the exact same thing? the only difference is that you have decided that it 'is' beating a game, while your opposite side has decided that it 'isn't' beating a game. you are acting superior to mike matei. he is acting superior to people who use rewind states.

and if the point is that you don't care, then why do you seem to care so much what mike matei or random people on board 8 to consider to be not a valid way of beating a game? how does this affect you in any way unless you value their opinions?

if rom hacking is an option, I strongly recommend Crystal Clear

really that goes for anyone who happens to be reading this topic and hasn't played it yet

it's basically a soft 'open world' pokemon style game based on kanto and johto, using the pokemon crystal cartridge. you can choose to start in kanto or johto, there's lots of options for your character sprite as well as your starter (all kanto/johto starters, all of the baby pokemon, some others -- I picked vulpix as my starter). all of the forced team rocket stuff and other storylines that just slow down the game are removed. HM locking is gone. all areas can now be accessed at any point in the game. the levels of wild pokemon are dependent on the area, however, so going to some areas will be more dangerous. the gyms can be played in any order -- they scale to the number of badges you currently possess. you can re-challenge gyms in order to grind for EXP or money. trainers in the world also scale based on your badges. they've added some legit challenging trainers into the regular world exploration -- with teams of pokemon that have competitive movesets and stats.

probably some other great features I'm forgetting to mention. it really does basically everything right. I personally just love how I can essentially play pokemon RBY, but with all of the gen 2 stuff added, and not have to go through silph co. for the 50th time. it's a great option whenever you want to play some classic pokemon just for the sake of nostalgia.

TopicEtrian Odyssey V or Etrian Odyssey Nexus
MariaTaylor
11/27/19 3:56:39 PM

Nexus is really, really good for what it is. Mana Sword is correct in that it doesn't contain a lot of elements from V. It actually goes out of its way to acknowledge that EO 1-4 all take place in the same world and have the same lore, but totally ignores the fact that 5 existed -- which makes sense. 5 had weird nonhuman races as a major part of the setting, and it clearly didn't take part in the same world. The biggest flaw with Nexus is that it probably draws TOO MUCH influence from Etrian Odyssey 4.

If you know a lot about the EO series you can kinda understand that EO1-2 are their own thing, and EO4 is its own thing. They are similar, they are part of the same franchise, but the fundamental gameplay and design choices are from two different schools of thoughts. EO3 is sort of in between, but has more similarity to the classic games. Nexus is another in between game. They went out of their way to really make the EO1-2 fans pretty happy, and I did definitely feel like I was satisfied with Nexus. But, yeah, ultimately, it's still probably more like EO4 and that's a shame because EO4 is definitely my least favorite game in the series. That being said, lots people like 4, especially with how it made the series far more casual. That would also make 4 (and Nexus, by extension) "easier" for players to get into if they aren't looking for the most hardcore dungeon crawling experience.

Now, to talk about 5... 5 is actually amazing as well. The thing about 5 is that it's probably the most nostalgic game in terms of the feeling and the design of Etrian Odyssey 1. Aside from 2, which was sort of like an 'expansion' of EO1, I feel like 5 is the first game in the series to capture the magic of EO1 again. However, that's really true from the perspective of game design, dungeon design, and class balance. When it comes to Lore, EO5 is THE most divergent game in the series, hands down. As much as I loved the gameplay of EO5 and as much as it really gave me that magical feeling of playing EO1 again for the first time... I really didn't like the new world with all of the nonhuman races, and having classes locked behind races. although you can swap your class and basically end up with cross-race class options, the stat spreads for the races are fixed and so this is generally a case of; you have options, but most of the options suck. this may or may not be a sticking point for some people. if you're like me and you just want to play a human party in a fantastical world, the normal EO formula is best. if you actually like the idea of playing around with different fantasy races, then 5 is probably more appealing. and it does have the awesome gameplay and dungeon design to make it a solid choice in its own right.

uhh.... tl;dr

EO Nexus: More casual, simple lore that ties games 1-4 together but doesn't require that you've played any of the previous games. Solid amount of class options, but only the human race is available. Dungeon and world design is just okay, but it's split up between a bunch of small dungeons so you won't get exhausted.

EO 5: More of a dungeon focused dungeon crawler with one big, awesome dungeon. Fewer class options, but with more playable races. Some of the classes will feel mandatory, but there's more depth and strategy behind how you build your party around your core classes. You can play as elves and furries if you're into that.

It's worth noting that in some of the older EO games, there were some gimmick "furry" races like the Beast in EO2 and the secret classes in EO3/EO4. However, the thing to understand that makes EO5 different is that in EO1-4 the nonhuman races were just a class. In EO5, you pick your race FIRST, and then you have an option of different classes within that race.

hope this info is helpful! Etrian Odyssey is one of my favorite series and I'm definitely prepared to talk about it at length if anyone is actually interested lol

oh yeah, Poor Jack is another top one... ah. it's so tough to decide. in my head I consider it to be pretty linked together with Jack's Obsession. both of them deal with similar subject matter, both are fairly short, and both of them lead into an emotional climax where Jack makes a big decision that causes him to take action and drastically change the plot by those actions. Obsession is basically the moment where he "breaks" the story and makes things worse, and Poor Jack is the part where he realizes his mistakes and "fixes" the story.

Sally's Song, Jack's Lament, the Finale Reprise and What's This are all pretty great. I also really like the Town Meeting song and think Jack's Obsession is pretty underrated. It's really hard for me to pick just one. There's other songs from the movie which I would say are pretty catchy, and I still listen to them from time to time, but none of them would really be in contention for the top. Jack's Lament and Jack's Obsession are probably the top two for me.

I think Ys 1 is the only game where this applies for me. well, there's tons of games that I started and I didn't beat for various reasons. but this is the only one where I got all the way to the end and stalled out on the final boss specifically.

he's just really powerful and I found the mechanics for fighting him to be super jank. on top of that you basically reach the peak of your power by this point and you will never get any stronger. you can't just grind a little bit to have an easier time beating him. the only way to do it is to repeatedly practice the battle, which is not something I was interested in doing.

the last few arcs of dragonball all the way through the saiyan saga are probably the peak of dragonball as a whole. you can definitely make a case for including namek and freiza stuff in there as well but at a certain point you have to decide just how much material is allowed to be included in the 'peak.'

android saga was pretty good, cell saga is where quality starts to diminish but it still feels like a satisfying overall journey.

buu saga is absolute trash and rightfully killed the series for quite a while.

got the burning fist

encountered dadaluma(?), some sort of boss or at least a mini boss. I just overpowered him with raw damage pretty quickly. by the time he summoned adds, I was already killing him with aura blast in the same turn.

finally on the top floor, I find the Hermes Sandals. they seem pretty good, but I'm not sure if I can put them on anyone right now. everyone is already wearing artifacts for other things.

terra is still some kind of weird yellow monster but she's not glowing, not flying around, and she is just laying in a bed. well, time to see what happens. hopefully it's not a hard boss fight since I have literally not saved since before entering this dungeon.

no boss fight! at least not so far.

Ramuh, one of the Espers, shows up and explains some of the DEEP LORE to me. the truth behind the war of the magi, gestahl, and how things got to be the way they are now.

if I'm understanding correctly it sounds like:

the humans and the espers fought together before.
the espers didn't want their powers to be abused so they made a separate dimension and went there.
20 years ago, gestahl discovered this place.
gestahl knew that he could use the espers power to create an unstoppable army.
the empire captured some of the espers and brought them to magitek research facility.
ramuh escaped and has been hiding out among the humans since then.

finally, ramuh sacrifices himself to create "magicite." the methods that gestahl and the empire have been using lead to weaker espers and esper-based powers, but the magicite is the most pure form of esper power which will lead to greater strength. ramuh offers himself as magicite so that locke and the others can try to rescue the espers who are currently trapped, and hopes that those will be able to heal terra and return her back to her original form.

additionally, there are three other magicite stones which were recovered from the espers who died during the original battle with gestahl.

the others are Cait Sith, Kirin, and Siren.

I'm not exactly sure how to use these yet. I guess the game will explain it to me when I need to know.

here we meet Edgar. the party basically goes over everything they've learned, then forms a new party as they get ready to leave this place. I decide to swap Sabin for Edgar. I feel like I will use Edgar and so I don't want him to fall too behind in levels. plus, right now, I'm a little frustrated at how often I miss Rising Phoenix. Edgar will be a much more reliable AoE attackers, while I still have Cyan for single target.

I... probably will not use Gau...

there's a ghost here who offers to teach me more about espers. hmm... maybe next time! I'll save and quit for today.

spent some time exploring Jidoor, every house except for the mansion. I heard about two places of interest. Zozo to the north and the opera house I've been hearing about for a while is just a bit further to the south. apparently terra went north.

however, I want to grind a bit more, and I want to check out the opera house anyway. I figure this is not the right way to go, so it's better to go this way first if I'm going to grind anyway. unsurprisingly, it's closed.

by the time I get back, celes and locke each gain another level and I've started to recover the gold I just spent on some more equipment upgrades.

there's not much going on in owzer's mansion. he says that I look like the spitting image of Maria, the famous opera singer. huh.

well, I assume he's talking about celes and not locke, despite the fact that I have locke as my active party leader right now.

I decide to put Celes in front just in case anyone else wants to mistake her for maria, and head north to zozo.

first thing that surprises me is that, okay, if all the poor people from jidoor were sent to live here and all the rich people still live in jidoor... why does this town actually look kinda nice? I guess it's raining but I assume it doesn't rain all the time every day. although, maybe it's magical rain.

also I'm getting attacking by bands of roving gobbledygook every five steps which is pretty annoying! but it is pretty silly when you say it like that.

at one point I miss three attempts at Rising Phoenix in the same battle. at this point Celes, Locke, and Cyan have basically finished killing everything. yeesh. but then the next battle I get it right away and win instantly. so it's like I can't figure out if it's worth using or not!

I thought I would be safe indoors but no. quite the opposite. some lady with thundara almost obliterates my entire party. which also makes me realize, for some reason, Runic isn't working anymore? I have no idea why. I can't even select it.

there are signs for shops but no actual shops.

NPCs just laying down in the middle of the street who don't do anything when you try to interact with them. and the ones that do talk apparently just lie to you anyway. based on the fact that I know they are lying, I guess that terra definitely isn't at the top of this building.

so naturally I won't go explore up there.

... okay this part where like a bunch of people come through the door and each one of them tells you it's a different time is so ridiculous it definitely made me laugh. I don't even know what's funny about that.

I also figured out you can steal Relics from these Harvester type enemies which is... pretty cool. those are worth a few thousand gold a piece. it actually makes it feel like Locke is useful to have around despite having lower damage.

found the Brigand's Glove not even a few moments after I realized this. so if you didn't already figure it out on your own the game is really, really encouraging you to steal.

at this point I think I've hit a dead end, but the game actually has this bandit NPC jumping back and forth between the two buildings... which made me realize if I go back to the lower floor I can jump across, and then I'll be able to jump over again when I get back up to the top. really great game design on display there.

I'm once again burning through potions like crazy and I gotta say... I've been at this for a while. hopefully there's a spot where I can save soon or, at the very least, I hope I don't get a game over or something and have to do all of this again. I did save before entering Zozo, but still!

have a bit of mercy!

made it to jidoor and then spent a little bit of time grinding my gold supply back up, getting some EXP in the process as well. my blitz commands are getting dropped about 50% of the time, well, Rising Phoenix specifically, and it's making me wonder if I can't use Sabin because of my controller issues.

eh, at the same time, Sabin and Cyan are so badass they have basically destroyed every encounter anyway. including the ones where I miss turns due to dropping inputs.

since the enemies here are weak I decide to practice my Blitzes.

aw hell yeah I got rising phoenix to work, and it's awesome. I hope this is boosted by magic attack as well, because I'm using the double Earring set up on Sabin right now.

and hey, Figaro Castle is back!

Sabin decides to go off and explore on his own. some guy tells me that a flaming cat went flying through the sky to the mountains to the west. looks like I am going the right way.

picked up Flash and Drill even though Edgar is not with me right now. and... okay, now I might be running a little low on gold. maybe I should not have spent it all on stuff I don't know if I need or not!

the guy in the library tells me that this castle might be able to dig under the mountains and get us over there more quickly, so I go search for the man in charge of moving the castle around. and so now we're in Kohlingen! well, getting here was easier than expected. time to go find Terra!

the people in Kohlingen tell me that the creature made of light went south, to jidoor.

of course I can't just leave it at that! I need to go explore kohlingen.

and man, am I glad I did. there is so much going on here. more context for the world, the characters, the setting. DEEP LORE. by the way, to remark on something that happened above, I like how Sabin just randomly leaves the party when you go to Figaro Castle, and then rejoins when you leave. it's such a minor detail that impacts nothing and didn't need to be included, but it adds that nice little extra spice to the game -- which is something that FF6 excels at.

similarly there's a hyperactive daughter and her mother here in the village who apparently had a more close encounter with Terra. the daughter says that she wasn't scared of the light, and the mother says that she doesn't think it was a monster because it looked at her daughter with 'gentle eyes.' I feel like this is a nice way of letting us know that, whatever happened to Terra, she is still like... I mean, at the very least, she's not 100% a monster or something now.

next place I went was this house with some silly, obvious joke music BGM. so I assumed I was in for some shenanigans. I was not in for some shenanigans. instead, we got some tragic Locke backstory about how... I guess the spirit was ripped out of this woman he was in love with (Rachel?), and he needed to put her into a state of magical sleep so that she won't age or die. but he can't wake her back up until he gets a Legendary Treasure that can restore her soul.

once again, after this Locke scene, and the party leaves, Celes comes back on her own to look over the body again. she doesn't say much. but the fact that she went back is like a moment of silent characterization -- impacts nothing, didn't need to be added, wouldn't have even seen this extra bit if I didn't bring both celes AND locke -- but it adds that extra spice and I'm glad it was included.

when I investigated Rachel's house I got some more Locke tragic backstory.

also this guy on the west side of town did not have such an easy time as the mother and daughter. apparently terra obliterated his house... heh.

this one lady talks about how she wants to find a handsome man to take her on a date to the opera house south of jidoor. this really makes me wish I had brought edgar along, I wonder what he would have to say about this?

last thing I do is check the inn, where I run into my old friend shadow and man's best friend, the dog.

"leave me alone"

well alright then, nice catching up with you.

next is south to jidoor!

for the first time in a little while, I go ahead and enable the sound on my VBA. lately when I'm playing games I've been in more of a 'grind while listening to my own music' mood as opposed to 'immerse myself in the game.' plus there's a few albums that came out this year that I've been listening to heavily. however, I do like the music in FF6, and I feel like I'd get crucified if I muted it and listened to my own soundtrack instead.

I'm able to find my way back to the Returners HQ without much trouble, and then I spend a little bit of time exploring Narshe just in case. wow, I actually remember the names of these places! but yeah, I might have missed something last time and this will give me a good chance to search the town if I didn't do that already.

considering I have to buy 4 Mithril Shields for everyone in my current party, I'm gonna assume I didn't bother to explore before saving and quitting last time. also the Bandana only has 1 point of Defense higher than the Magus Hat, so I leave the Magus Hat on Celes. for all I know it might give some special boost to her spellcasting.

also picked up two of the artifacts each that cast Protect or Shell when you're critically wounded. maybe useful later? I do not know.

there's a lot of empty houses, hopefully I didn't miss anything in particular. and now uh... hm... I actually don't remember which way I'm supposed to go. west, was it? I'll try going west and see how that works out.

nobody is talking about this anymore

in a week nobody will remember Hong Kong

it's still on my mind, but I will admit that I'm not a good representation of the average person. I was actually surprised at how much the community reactions on the first few days were similar to my own. now, the talk I see on those same communities has gone more toward what I would have expected from other people.

people are just going to be the way that people are. it's hard to get a lot of them to care about something for longer than a short while. though I will say this still feels a bit bigger than just the random outrage of the day. the only thing we can do is wait to see blizzard's next quarterly report. that will tell us how many people chose to boycott over this and actually stayed away from blizzard long enough for it to matter.

maybe I'll be disappointed when I see the report but it's kinda pointless to act disappointed in the movement already before we've seen ANY substantial data to suggest one way or the other.

just because people aren't talking about it 24/7 doesn't mean they aren't thinking about it. and there's going to be people who just put blizzard out of their mind entirely, like, totally given up on blizzard, which is also a good thing. that also contributes to the boycott even if they aren't constantly posting about it on board 8 or reddit.

one off filler episodes can be entertaining on their own. the issue comes when you have entire arcs that are entirely filler. these are written by people other than the original author and usually have much weaker writing as a result. or, at the very least, different from the writing in the rest of the series. this is the main reason filler gets a bad reputation. the other issue is that these filler arcs or even standalone filler episodes taking place between events can disturb the flow of the plot.

for example, the arc you're currently talking about: in the manga sasuke wakes up from being attacked by itachi and he immediately freaks out and challenges naruto to a battle. he was in a mentally unstable state because of what the tsukuyomi did to him. this is what leads to the falling out of team 7 and sasuke leaving the village. in the anime, however, there's a short arc where team 7 goes to the land of tea and helps some guys win a race. sasuke is goofing off and, on top of that, is completely healthy... just going off on a mission and doing stuff. then when he returns from the mission he gets back into his hospital bed and starts freaking out. it makes a lot less sense for a multitude of reasons, but it also diminishes the main point that sasuke's behavior was a reaction to him waking up after being defeated by itachi, tortured for 72 hours, and then in a coma until the very next plot relevant scenes. instead, they have him wake up, go do a bunch of other stuff, and then come back and freak out.

keep wearing the hat if you like it.

informative casters are better than casters who overreact to everything that happens.

don't worry too much about doing a perfect job. it's not like you're at some major worldwide or even national event, it's just a small thing. do the best job that you can do. if you do a good job, probably nobody will notice.

if you had done a bad job they likely wouldn't have asked you to come back.

haha...

honestly I was pretty disappointed with EO4 and I had trouble getting into EO5. I guess I didn't expect Nexus to be as good as it is? like I never thought that it would interfere with my ability to continue playing FF6 regularly because it's been so long since I was legitimately obsessed with a great EO game. the last few weeks whenever I feel like playing an RPG it's pretty much been Nexus every single time.

I am still interested in continuing FF6 on some level, and I'll probably finish it eventually, but I haven't been in the mood to play it lately. if the topic was going to purge I wouldn't really care that much... so that's probably a good indicator of how dead this topic is.

There is a difference between being against a regime and crying moral superiority against people who don't show enough outrage about a video game company potentially doing some of the dirty work of the regime through a harsh punishment of a player. Heck with me I even agree with the general idea that Blizzard was out of line, but just adding the caveat that a stream isn't a place for that and it's not Blizzard's obligation to be the platform for him to express his views on that, and the dude should have got some much more minor punishment to dissuade these kinda things. Unfortunately, I just don't agree hard enough for MariaTaylor, the Level 1 Chaotic Good freedom loving Bard with a heart of gold, to abide.

You keep saying you don't like me that like it matters. Your feelings about me have no bearing on how I feel about you or about myself. Partially because your opinion is based on a grievance I find valueless (that people should be super upset at Blizzard here or else they MUST support authoritarian regimes) so I don't take it seriously, and partially because we don't know each other on any sort of personal level so I'm not angry or upset that you dislike me. Plenty of people here, some of which I hold in higher regard than you, dislike me, but you can't accept that it's meaningless to me. You keep saying I'm freaking out here but it feels like projecting at this point. There is no backpedaling-- when I say I have no beef with you I am not trying to damage control you calling me scum I am just being honest.

this is some serious gaslighting. okay, whatever. I honestly should have given up when I first noticed you were arguing in bad faith.

for any observers who happen to be reading, the people who actually matter:

just remember that lopen has only chosen to mock and belittle my views, calling me an overall negative influence on the board, saying I have never contributed anything positive, coincidentally, just this one and only time when it was lopen himself who was being criticized. never once has this person ever condemned a single view that I expressed, or called my ability of critical thinking into question -- but the moment I am being critical of him suddenly I'm no longer a credible witness. the cowardly fuck literally called into question whether or not I'm actually pro-freedom.

and yet if this were any other situation, if blizzard had banned and censored blitz for something else that was less popular, you can all bet that I'd be the one person in this topic arguing against literally everyone else about how blitz should not have been censored. seeing me ranting and arguing against multiple users for entire multi-100 post topics is not an uncommon sight. even lopen himself as cited my tendency to 'rant at other people.'

but sure. in his mind this is the ONE time where I'm totally just putting on a show and pretending. just by sheer coincidence. the one time I'm being critical of him. wow, that's sure convenient for his ego.

you think being against authoritarian regimes who religiously persecute people and harvest their organs is being a pretentious idiot? like, I really don't get why you keep doubling down on this stance.

I don't consider myself the arbiter of all good in the world, no. but I can definitely say without a doubt that your behavior and remarks in this topic have pretty clearly been in support of actual, legitimate evil. the fact that you seem to see no problem with it, that you seem to think anyone who is offended by this is just "putting on a show," that you're clearly not just trolling or playing devils advocate, really speaks volumes about the content of your character.

like, seriously, this is not an argument over whether link could beat mario in a cooking contest. the people in hong kong are protesting against a system of government that would seek to enslave them. no, I do not take that lightly. at all. this is not me "roleplaying" a character. there are things I actually care about. and "denying basic freedoms" is in fact one of them.

I sincerely hope you don't think we are going to, in any way, ever be "cool" again or even "neutral" after this topic. you keep reiterating that you don't dislike me because of the fact that I'm criticizing you. like, do you actually get what I'm saying? to be clear, I certainly dislike what I have seen from you. I am legitimately disgusted with you. if you don't dislike me or whatever, uh, okay, whatever?

I'm not mocking anyone for taking a pro freedom stance. I'm mocking people for thinking that their stance on what Blizzard should have done here is grounds for any sort of superiority as a person when it should basically begin with "I disagree and here's why." Denying Blizzard some money or ragging on people who don't want to raise a huge fuss over this does not make you a saint. With boycotting it's your right to do it, but it's a pretty minor gesture all things considered. The ragging is of course completely meaningless.

I don't have to be a saint for your actions to be atrocious. stop rehashing this same dunce argument over and over again.

you took the side of blizzard who enforced censorship policies for a regime that is currently harvesting organs from prisoners in concentration camps. I gave you an out: you are either ignorant, or you are scum. you doubled down on being scum.

I'm not talking about public opinion. I'm talking about the fact that you seem to be upset about the fact that my opinion of you has changed. certainly I would agree with you that I have very little if any influence over public opinion here.

Yeah. You put on a big show about being superior to people for various reasons without any real substance behind it beyond your "cutting wit." You get off on cutting people down, and don't really contribute anything but negativity here. I know your track record well. Someone like you being a positive contributor to society in any sort of meaningful way sounds like a pilot to a bad comedy where you go out and make everyone you interact with feel worse.

I don't care if you call me scum. It means nothing from you.

I'll give it to you that what you've said here is loosely based on reality, but you've filled in the blanks with a bunch of delirious nonsense. I'm generally viewed as someone who is harsh, but fair. I can definitely be very critical, especially when it comes to things that I have a strong belief over. I have no doubt that I've contributed some negativity and made people feel worse. But, no, I generally don't feel good about those outcomes. Honestly, my wish would be that people would simply be able to accept when they are wrong and try to improve themselves. And some people can. But some people... man, some people just can't take it when they're the ones being criticized.

There's a reason people like you panic as soon as I criticize you, and it's exactly because of that track record that I have. As soon as you're the one in my crosshairs, suddenly I stop being "harsh but fair" and I'm just "harsh." I'm an evil meanie who just says mean things because I'm arrogant and I like to hurt people because I'm so bad that I guess it's just fun to make people upset.

In fact, I have said and done many positive things on this board. That fact that you are selectively choosing to omit those experiences says a lot about where your mental state is right now. You NEED to believe that I couldn't possibly be right here, because if I'm right then that means you really are acting like scum. I guess that means you place a lot more value on my opinion than you're willing to admit.

Yes really. It's very dumb that anyone who isn't saying blizzard should be burned at the stake is being treated as morally inferior here. Hell on the morality front many of these people probably do or have done worse things in their day to day lives than "not act appalled by Blizzard over reacting with their punishment to a guy who went on a tangent on their stream." Heck they have done it in my estimation, just looking at crap I read on the board.

You have the right to stop supporting Blizzard because of their business practices. You making the tremendous sacrifice of not spending $10 on WoW or not playing Hearthstone anymore doesn't make you some sort of saint either.

Like you wanna say people are wrong for saying Blizzard was okay to do this, that's fine, but cut the condescension about it

well I don't care about morality at all, but I literally don't get how you could read handsomedude's post and be like "yeah, I'm okay with blizzard censoring and punishing people for speaking out against this." anyone who thinks like that is legitimately dog shit level scum in my eyes.

blizzard did not take a neutral stance here. they chose to selectively enforce a very vague rule that allows them to punish any player for any reason, and they used it to censor and punish someone for speaking out against authoritarian violations of basic civil liberties. I know there are a lot of soft, squishy cowards on this board who take their freedom for granted but I am not one of them.

you are either ignorant, or just straight up trash. that's all there is to it.

once again, this has nothing to do with morality and everything to do with my personal opinion of you

I view this entire protest as a reaction to the gradual and deliberate erosion of our promised rights and freedoms over the last 22 years. They started peacefully, but the government refused to budge and unleashed the police, which led to continuous escalation of violence.

The big issue now is police brutality. Basically they have a blank cheque to do whatever it takes to crush us. This meant indiscriminate arrests for flimsy reasons, excessive use of guns, tear gas and batons, intimidation and torture. You could be stopped and searched for walking around with a black T-shirt, or beaten up because you shouted insults at them, or charged with rioting (up to 10 years imprisonment) because you happened to be in the vicinity of a protest. None of them the cops have to face any consequences at all.

Last week the government has invoked emergency powers. Face masks were banned, but they are probably going to abuse it to impose more laws like a curfew, ban of public assembly, seizure of property, and cancellation of district elections (which they are likely to lose btw). A lot of us view this as equivalent to suspending the constitution and legislature.

If you want my perspective... fuck the cops, fuck the CCP, fuck the government, and fuck their supporters. I value my life too much to actually go out to fight, but I do try to spread awareness online when I have the time. If the movement fails in the end I'm going to emigrate.

stay safe. I hope things work out for you.
