It was your responses to questions about facts about the character and its origins and framing your opinions of what the character is based on as facts about the character that made me question whether you could be trusted on it. Keep in mind I think anyone who thinks it's the same as Dangerous Ariana is approaching it from a totally different mindset than I think the right one is. Not sure what percentage of it is being a salesman oland what percentage is being bad at explaining but yeah it's a lot of work. I do think based on what I think I have pieced together that it's an add that's on the fence but probably okay without an arbitrary distinction made for the character, but who knows how much of it is "there's no real world person the character is based on because I think they're substantially different and I'm not showing my work" vs "there actually is no real world person it's based on whatsoever" A great host would do the direct research themselves but that's more than necessarily should be expected by a host. --- No problem! The blog is incapable of capturing his point of view at all since it's just the son making everything up from his character's reference point. That's not proof they're substantially different, though. Like if the dad on the show could literally cast magic or had a concretely defined character trait that's proven as different from the real world source, that would be proof. It's a gray area but the grayest area we've ever had in the thing. I think there are distinctions to make to dq him but ultimately the distinctions will feel arbitrary because the contest has been pretty loose until now. Wouldn't be the first time though. For example if a real world celebrity is featured in a cartoon as a one off joke, that doesn't make them a character in the cartoon. For instance Leonard Nimoy is in The Simpsons as Leonard Nimoy a few times. I wouldnt call him a Simpsons character. I would however call McBain a Simpsons character despite heavily being influenced by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now if you had the Leonard Nimoy character named something that wasn't Leonard Nimoy on the show, that's kinda the gray area this guy falls into. --- No problem! Without knowing what other interests you have I can't really come up with much to suggest, but if it's something I know/care about I'll follow it, whatever it may be More or less this is how I feel btw. The caveat being I probably won't post as much if I lack the experience with the source material or inclination to talk about it. The latter I mostly mean something like music-- to me it's not something that's inherently interesting to discuss cause I don't really have the ability articulate what I do and don't like about music very well, and frankly I don't care enough to even try because to me it feels like a more subjective thing than stories or characters or whatever. I'm sure some people feel differently about this but *shrug* As long as it's something where you're providing a solid backbone of content it should be fun to follow though. I enjoyed that comic book villain topic for example even though I don't exactly have a ton of depth in comics. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

| Lopen 07/26/18 12:37:29 PM #25 | Oh also as for Oboro, who is definitely a top 5 Birthright character for me... probably top 5 in Fates as a whole, even. - The Fashion gimmick is cute particularly since it's so at odds with her wrathful "death to Nohr" thing. Also it's a simple gimmick that hasn't been run into the ground yet unlike say "klutz" or "haughty noble" which seem to appear in every game. - I think her supports with Nohr characters are more interesting than most of the game's supports due to her sorta racism. - Said racism in her supports is justified enough that I don't judge her for it, and her overcoming it is cool (perhaps you can consider it rushed if we're splitting hairs but you can only do so much with the support coversation structure-- keeping in mind they're buffered by fighting together in life & death situations I think it's okay) - In Birthright the cast is pretty bland across the board so she stands out more than she might among a different cast. - I have a weakness for infantry spear users in general. Blame them being so rare. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

I think I like her more because I don't consider Robin to be "me" even if you could in a lot of ways argue the game presents it that way. Robin has enough character to not really feel like a self insert though. I mean I love yanderes either way so I don't think it would bug me that much either way but if Robin had less of his/her own personality I probably would like her less since it would feel more fanservicey in a way I didn't like. --- No problem!
