1. Stuffing/rallying on one or both sides because it's a high stakes match for people who pay too much attention to contests
2. Our votes don't actually count and someone just designed a contest trend simulator to simulate matches and gave it to Bacon to use
3. Legit updates

Those are my theories in order. I rather like the second theory.

Well, I'd say about 85% or more of the champs in the game have spells or spell-like abilities. Doesn't necessarily make them mages for the point of this contest, does it?

I agree. My point is that Mordekaiser's stuff outside of hammering you with his mace is magical in nature. I was merely bringing up Cho'gath as a counter-example to show that the "mage" category doesn't mean anything as to how magelike a character is for purposes of this contest.

Also if you want a really good idea of why League of Legends categories say nothing about the nature of the actual character

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Cho%27Gath_the_Terror_of_the_Void

Dude is in the mage category. He's a giant bug creature whose attacks involve impaling you with spikes, screaming really damn loud, and eating you whole. Not very magelike!

On the other hand, this guy is a necromancer whose attacks involve summoning the undead that isn't in the mage category-- he's instead in the "fighter" and "melee" categories:

Yeah vcharon basically, the League of Legends tags are based on the role the character plays in game. A character is called a mage if it has abilities tailored around dumping them all on a guy, and a less desirable auto attack.

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Champion_Attributes

In fact "Fighter" specifically says "Champions that have aspects of DPSing and tanking, combining the survivability of a tank and the damage of a DPS or a caster"

Like if you want to DQ him for another reason that's fine but DQing him based on the league of legends categorization is kinda silly.

I kind of agree that these songs are interchangeable. Where's the stuff that wouldn't have fit anyone except the person who had it, like Gangrel's song, or Evil Doink's?

Kevin Thorn would be a possible counter for Gangrel at least. Not one I'd agree with, mind you, but possible.

I totally should've mentioned Kevin Thorn's theme though that's somewhat recent. As recent as a lot of the themes I mentioned!

Squall's obviously the one stuffing right now. They cut back on the flow a bit once Squall caught up-- no need to rush, then Sora dropped off and they interpreted it as a voting shift and cut the power to their stuffing turbines-- then it was variance and Squall got clobbered as a result.

True story

Pretty hard to not call this for Squall at this point. Sora only beat Dante by 700 votes total and Dante was behind 300-400 votes at this point. Unless you think Squall's day vote is going to be significantly weaker than Dante's.

Win/loss record RVD's been really good in TNA

But as far as looking strong in individual matches? Not so much. Dude hasn't really been tested in big matches there-- figures, TNA doesn't know how to use a big name, right? That 10 second victory over Sting was played off as Sting getting surprised rather than squashed, and then Sting proceeded to beat him senseless with a bat for 5 minutes. If anything Sting looked stronger there.

It could also be a face who just doesn't give a crap about stepping on some people. Edgy tweener type face basically. Even looking at the lyrics closely I believe that.

But yeah lyrics matter to me but not to the point where I do a dissertation on the nuances-- especially considering that you typically only hear the first 30 seconds to minute of a wrestling theme, that makes me value them even less. Randy Orton's theme? Good theme, good lyrics too. But tweak Miz's theme in a way that the lyrics sound Ortonish and give Orton the theme? Not so much. But like you change the lyrics slightly in Miz's theme to fit Swagger and slap it on Swagger? Totally works just as well as Swagger's current theme, I think. That's what I mean. It's no coincidence that every guy's theme on that list I said could take Miz's theme has the same problem Miz's theme does. It's probably partially due to gimmicks being somewhat similar, but as I said MVP is what I feel a good cocky theme variant that you can't just slap on any cocky guy. I think a lot of it has to do with how well the wrestler plays along with the song for their entrances, come to think of it. But some songs just do that without the wrestler needing to put much effort-- fit the "pace" of the wrestler like that.

Probably just sorta repeating myself at this point though, and people don't like discussion that's not about booking or whatever in this topic I guess. So yeah that'll probably be my last post on the matter!

I already voted Zack.

But yeah I don't think we will. You value lyrics a lot more highly than I do. I just basically see "out with the old in with the new in a brazen way" when it comes to Miz's theme, and that fits with all of those to some extent. I certainly don't see his theme as needing to be played as a heel, either-- seems alignment neutral to me! It sounds more like a face theme than Ted Dibiase's current theme, even!

I'm convinced that the board has enough sway in close matches with these lowered vote totals that it's literally impossible for the underdog to win in a close one unless the underdog is Pokemon or something. I'm also convinced that against Squall Sora's strongest time is now. So yeah Squall should have this.

The "you'd die if you lost the sense of feeling" argument is stupid. Fairly certain with only the sense of feeling you'd die in short order unless you had someone supervising you constantly.

Feeling is in fact the wrong answer in this scenario because you'd want to kill yourself with only one sense no matter the sense so might as well make it painless.

If your dude gets KOed in battle and is left that way for 3 rounds without getting revived (Geomancers have no way to do that) or finishing the battle, the party member turns into a crystal (or a treasure chest with a piece of their gear) and is gone forever. You can pick up the crystal to gain abilities that the dead one had or restore your hp/mp, but yeah, obviously you don't want this to happen to your party members-- though it can be useful against enemies.

And if you're gonna fall on the "Well, it was a unique gimmick in WWE at the time," then... Who can you say with a straight face that you could give Miz's theme to right now? Because if you can't think of anybody, then it fits just as much as any of the ones you claimed do.

I say without exaggeration that Miz right now could fit:

Dolph Ziggler
Alex Riley
Heath Slater
Ted Dibiase
Jack Swagger
David Otunga (before the lawyer thing, anyway-- though his theme right now doesn't really fit any better than this one)

Miz is probably the best fit, but yeah. I wouldn't say he's significantly ahead of Ziggler, Riley, or Slater for that theme. I could stretch to include more under the mantle, even. Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett aren't too far off either-- I wouldn't say their own themes fit themselves any better at this point. (Although, to be fair, Cody's last two themes were really good)

And yeah I do think the opening seconds of a song are important-- but there's a difference between a thought being conveyed in those seconds from the music itself and jamming the superstar's catchphrase into it. Replace the Wall Street Bells with JBL saying "I'm a wrestling god" and the theme gets knocked down a few notches to me. But it's definitely not all the opening seconds as to why JBL and WGTT are good.

But yeah basically it's like... you're dumbing the actual feel of the music down in my eyes and just saying it's all generic. I don't give a crap if JBL's theme is meant to sound like Dallas-- there's a feel there that's not just generic cowboy but cowboy with like... ambitions. Usos may embrace their heritage but they're still not "savages"-- pretty big difference there and I think the song sounds pretty "savage"... those drums, man, you can feel that impact. Victoria's theme is kinda like the women's version of Randy Orton's-- works best for a "violent crazy person" not "stalker" (though the lyrics work well for this-- I'd argue the overall feel of the song does not) or "weirdo" so it does work best for her of the names I mentioned by more than a negligible amount. It's not all about the lyrics or even the general idea! The spin is important!

Like, yeah, you could dumb down any theme song. Hulk Hogan's theme fits Hacksaw Jim Duggan or Kurt Angle right? Except it doesn't. Not as well. Not nearly as well.

I disagree with that. JBL's theme has the wall street bells at the beginning which adds a lot to it-- that and the it feels sorta like... "grand" I guess? It's a cowboy theme but it's got some sorta grandeur to it which is... the gimmick to a T. Doesn't work for any other cowboy gimmick out there nearly as well. Umaga's is far too tribal to fit the Usos cause their whole thing was "we may be Samoan but we're not savages"-- might've fit the old Headshrinkers but I think it was too intense for them-- those guys were kinda more laid back savages if that makes sense.

WGTT same sorta thing-- you can't give this to the Steiners and have it fit nearly as well because the first 10 seconds or so of the song really makes it feel like it's trying to sell you on "this is the World's Greatest Tag Team" and then the next bit seems more fitting to technicians-- so I guess if you had a pair of technical collegiate athletes billing themselves as the World Greatest Tag Team then it'd work for them.

Victoria's is the only one I can sorta agree with. Thing I guess that theme has going for it is that the theme itself is so unique that it feels like it's unique because the theme itself is more than it's locked into the gimmick (which is also kinda unique-- there are only three sufficiently crazy women I can think of that this theme would come close to working for-- and it works better for Victoria than Mickie James or Daffney). Which also counts imhhho. Also no one on the roster having that gimmick when she had it helps.

MVP his theme was integrated with his entrance that I can't really say it fits other people nearly as well-- might be unfair but yeah. Also the theme itself was unique so the Victoria effect is in play to some extent.

Also by the way you saying it fits Beth and Natalya makes me think you thought I was talking about "I ain't the lady to mess with." I was actually talking about the T.A.T.U. song. The former I'll admit is more generic than the latter, though both beat any diva theme on the roster that isn't Beth Phoenix's theme right now by a landslide.
